Squier vintage modified jazz fretless question.
Happy-ish. I play it most of the time, but the Warwick still has the edge. So I may sell it and get something better. It's still a mystery to me how I can do all I can to improve a Squier: Hipshot bridge New strings New tuners Fender pots Sparague capacitor Bartolini pups It still doesn't have the feel of the Warwick... IMHO To me the Warwick still feels like "home"
I love my Warwick ... -
I was on the Seymour Duncan site last night and see they do pups designed for Fretless. Has anyone here tried them? In response to the OP; I agree with Dingus, I've done a re-build project on a scratched Squier. I changed everything; bridge, heads, pots, Bartolini pups etc. All fitted to a re-sprayed body and great neck. I now have a bass with a cost to me of about £300. Will anyone pay me £300? Probably not. If I sell I'l probably convert all the bits back and sell the good quality parts.
But are you happy with it ? -
Looks fine to me. Does turning the tone control make a difference to the sound i.e from wooly to merangue? Just to check that it's actually working. I swapped the stock DD's in my fretless to cheap Wilkinsons, and then to a set of Bartolinis. I sold the originals to a mate for his bitsa Jazz. His sounds so much better than mine, I wished I hadn't bothered now
Seems to mate ....maybe it's just not for me ,I like a more modern plug in and keep the amp flat approach lol ! I think Barts or maybe EMG JCS's might give me what I'm after. More like this.... http://youtu.be/NKOUdzIYqT4 -
watches thread with interest as i have the same vmj with dd pups - i assumed that the woolliness and lowish output i was experiencing was due to the black nylons
I also have the Marcus Milleresque squier vintage fretted and it sounds fantastic I have the Markbass amp flat and it pops and snarls with bottom end and lovely mid. But if I plug the fretless in I have to do major EQing to get a reasonable sound. I think a set of Barts might give me what I want and a new bridge. -
I've had 2 VM's and both have been great. Only got a wooly sound with the tone control wound fully anti-clockwise (as with all passive tone controls) Has someone been playing with the tone capacitor and soldered it so it's on full permanently?
Maybe that is the case ,i know bugger all about wiring pickups how would I check that mate ? -
Hi guys thought id pick your brains. I have the above bass and while i love it the pickups sound flat and wooly. Any ideas for a more modern ,singing and alive sound. I know quite of a few of you have these basses and have modded them. Cheers Fred.

Gallien Kruger MB150E or MarkBass Mini CMD 121P?
blamelouis replied to SevenSeas's topic in Amps and Cabs
Volume wise Markbass but I'd say getting on a bus with it would still be a pain. -
I still have a Trace Elliott valve preamp combo ,the one with the silver front which has an INCREDIBLE sound real pro. But the weight of it is unbelievable.
-
Markbass CMD121P with Markbass 151HR extension cab ......ground shaking. Was tempted by the tc electronic head that you can throw in your gigbag ....for £215 it's a steal , just BCers tales of low volume put me off.

Yeah I have it ,great range of artists (no Beatles or oasis) but the offline mode on iPhone is brillant . Set quality to extreme put Denon earbuds in and the sound is BRILLANT. I have 13gb of spotify on my iPhone. -
Shameless plug, you won't get a better bass for the money than the jazz I am selling on here, I'm open to sensible offers too
Or your Jazz bass , cracking bass for the price , always wanted Barts in my Jazz.
