1. The BC language police are out in force! I'd fire the guy if he's not nice to be around and incapable of doing his job. I have a bassist friend who's notorious for going on drunk at festival gigs where there's a lot of waiting. While knowing it's not right, the band put up with it as alcohol effects him by making him charming and hilarious, and honestly and inexplicably turns him into a beast of a player... if only I could get away with that!
2. On his Wiki he uses the word 'dissolvement'... I'd fire him for that alone!
3.
Has anybody asked how much the fan fret option costs yet?...
Someone asked on Facebook, and they replied that they can make an Elwood 4P with Delanos for €1290.
4.
Won`t be able to make this one peoples, am gigging in Berlin that night.
As excuses go, that one's pretty cool!
5.
Meet on the ledge Fairport convention.
I'm not a blubber, but this always brings a lump to the throat, as does Who Knows Where the Time Goes. Pink Floyd's When the Tigers Broke Free is a choker too.
6. The biggest aid for me is the lyrics. I learn my parts, intro, verse, chorus, any variations, etc, then I learn the song as if I was a singer and take my cues from that... god knows what I'd do for an instrumental!
7.
Fixed it for you Nick - is there a BIN option?
Nah? I'll let the auction run!
8. Update... Things I found out I love about an hour ago. Zero radius fretboard. Asymmetrical neck carves. Scottish basses... Let negotiations with the wife commence!
9. Naked ash & maple. Matching headstocks (unless the try a mini sunburst) The shape of the precision scratchplate. Tort on white or black basses. Big ol' humbuckers at the bridge. Thin frets. Sculpted neck heels.
10. I've been fingers for at least the last 15 years, but I still practice with a pick from time to tie just to keep my eye in. Sometimes you want that sound. Palm muting with a pick sounds great. +1 for the thumb pick. As well as the security, it lets you bring your other fingers in on the act, which makes for some interesting riffs. As for the old 'proper bass player' argument... Two words... Steve Swallow!
11. I'm fine with most things but... Rickenbackers - Just foul looking things. SGs - Ditto. And less rationally, 4 over 1 and (much worse) 2 over 3 machine head configurations, which as a fivers only player is really starting to restrict my choice. I might have to look at relaxing the 4 over 1 bit, but 2 over 3 ain't happening... I'd have to buy the six string version instead if it came down to it. Oh, and gold hardware... It's a bass, not a f*<king Christmas tree!
12.
I couldn't print the ticket from the download either. So I emailed their customer support and they sent me a ticket via a link inserted in an email. I was able to open and print that. They responded same day.
Got a reply in under 5 minutes with proper links provided, job done. That's pretty decent customer service!
13. Many thanks, I'll give that a go!
14.
There was an option for ticket or mobile earlier in the process - which did you go for?
Bugger... was there? I have no idea.
15. The eticket thing is confusing me a bit, there's an attachment to download, but nothing seems to open it. The email itself has the barcode and details... can anyone (LBGS) tell me if the printed email is valid for entry?
16. What are the controls now then, and what's the added switch for?
17. They were giving them out at the front desk last year iirc.
18. Is it a 34 inch? If so how is the B string? Is the fretboard flat? How does it balance on a strap? Anything in the way of dings/knocks? Thanks!
19. War of the Worlds has the top spot for me (the original, not the recent debacle). It just flows beautifully. The Guns & Roses Use Your Illusion, double, double album farce takes the wooden spoon... they could have made a legendary single album, and a worthy successor to Appetite... but no.
20.
Is he a guitar tech?
Yup... For some big acts too. http://titanstudios.co.uk/guitar-amp-repair-watford/
21.
Did anyone else read these two posts and think ... WTF? The bass player for "one of the biggest metal bands in the world" is also "the guitar/amp tech" at a shop in Watford? This is the same studio where Robert Trujillo is a shop assistant, right?
It suprised me. Not being particularly familiar with Slipknot I didn't realise at the time. When I first inquired the guy asked if it was an urgent job as his tech was on tour for a couple of weeks with his band... never realised it was with a big band.
22.
In case people didn't know, he's a Watford lad (or around that area anyway) and Slipknot are one of the biggest (American) metal bands in the world Si
He's also the guitar/amp tech at Titan Studios Watford too I think. Pretty sure he serviced my amp.
23. That was tough voting... I had to make a list just to keep track. I could have easily picked a further 3 too, there's some great stuff there.
24. I'd fancy whatever was the output of this, ideally the one to one course. http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/courses.html
