I saw a violin with frets on a Facebook video - would love a go on one of those. They seem to be really expensive or quite cheap and nasty so not likely to try one any time soon. I love the look of this one though and electric so you can add a bit of distortion 😁

Fender jazz bass american special, part ways or not?

I've just bought and returned a new Schecter Model T exotic. Not only did it have a shielding / grounding issue but despite it looking lovely it was really uninspiring to play. I swapped it for a Fender Am Pro Precision which is simply fantastic. Keep the jazz or check out the Schecter C4 silver mountain - now that is a cool bass for metal ! -

We will all have seen Trump is implementing increased tariffs against a number of countries who will no doubt reciprocate. Obviously not discussing the political side of this, but just wondering how increased instrument prices will impact retailers or suppliers and how will they cope in an already difficult market ?
-
Exchanging it for a USA precision - that will definitely be the last ! 3rd time lucky !

Restrung it with a set of NYXL's which are uncoated. Still hear a hum unless I touch anything metal on the bass, strings, pots, bridge, jack.
-
Yes continued googling and saw the coating could be an issue. I've strung it through the body so not even the ball ends of the strings are touching the bridge - just the coated part of the string.

So Andertons exchanged my defective Mooer guitar for a Schecter Model T exotic yesterday. I hate Ernie Balls so ordered some Elixir nanowebs from Bass Direct and put them on tonight. On first play of the bass I noticed crackling coming through the amp which seemed to be when running my fingers up any none fretted strings. To ensure it wasn't an amp or cable problem, I tried another couple of basses and they didn't have the issue. Then to hear the noise better I put the bass through the Two Notes Revolt with headphones. The crackle was still there and there is a definite hum with all the strings open which goes when I touch any of the pots. I did a quick google and assume its a grounding issue. Are there any other checks I can do and should I return the bass ?

Still available on a made-to-order basis: https://kubicki.com/store/basses/ Completely agree although the 2nd hand prices seem way too high - they have a nice one currently in Richtone but you could get a much better new bass for that kind of cash. Any idea how much the new ones cost ?

Harley Benton multiscale single cut basses

They look really nice - I don't think I've owned a HB that wasn't great value for money (although they are always the first to go in a cull !). -
Our Evri guy at the moment is really good but some of the previous ones have been shocking. Lets be honest though we've probably had issues with all of the couriers at some time or other. I completely agree with the OP - its obscene to have to pay extra for insurance to ensure you get the service you paid for in the first place . To me its like ordering a steak in a restaurant and then having to take out insurance to ensure you don't get a burger or more likely nothing at all. Regulation is definitely needed.

I have a few guitars with satin Ziricote finishes which do tend to show marks and fingerprints. What would be best to use to clean the wood and potentially protect it ?

I've just asked and it says Chinese made Fenders are better than the USA models. There might be some truth in that !
-
I've just been chatting to George from Anderton's who have also struggled to contact Mooer. It's really annoying when you see Mooer bragging at NAMM saying what a great year they've had and that they are having time off for Chinese New Year when they haven't answered support calls from the middle of December( and not just for me). Anyway Anderton's have been absolutely brilliant in the end and are taking the defective guitar back and have allowed me to exchange it for something else, so I paid the difference and bought a Schecter Model T- 4 exotic so looking forward to NBD tomorrow. Definitely the last Mooer product I'll ever buy however innovative they are. You can't be a musical instrument manufacturer and completely ignore support for your customers and those selling your products.

Anyway there is a nice ending to the story - Sound Affects good to their word gave me £1800 trade in against this Ricky- they'll make a profit, I got a bass I want and everyone went home happy ...
-
It's a great shop - mostly high end guitars rather than basses and the staff are really nice. Generally quiet so you can have a good play on stuff.

They are a local shop and expensive ! I think they said they would have put it up for £2600 ! ( they always seem to sell my trade ins for high prices quickly too- maybe as they are always immaculate) https://www.soundaffects.com/ Just wondering whether to go and look at the RB4003 they have for sale after work ....
