The ones I bought aren't currently available but I'm sure you can find others : Hihaha 5pcs Self Adhesive Tire Wheel Balance Weights Strips for Motorcycle Durable Material https://amzn.eu/d/01TOnM0D I bought 2 sets - filled the control cavity and stuck the others to the cavity cover as I didn't want to put them on the body. Has made the dive much better albeit they are little unsightly. Ed.

I really can't fault it especially at the price. I have bought a Tonerider Duke to put in it but not bothered as the stock pup is fine. A fellow basschatter played it and also said it didn't need the change.

Bit disappointed - after nearly a 4 month wait Anderton's charged me £3.80 extra for the refurbed pickguard. It arrived and was fine and looks better on the bass but I thought the charge was petty after the £1000's I've spent with them over the years.I guess times are hard and margins slim.

I spent 5 hours on a couple of tracks in Suno earlier today and only stopped as the Mrs. wanted to use the computer. Its the most enjoyment I've had in music for ages. I don't see this as a battle at all. AI is just another tool and obviously the future.Tomorrow I'll stem them , take them into a DAW and add real instruments - I don't see an issue with that process. The output is infinitely better quality and more satisfying than anything I could have produced on my own. I do completely agree however that those whose work has fed the learning model should be paid accordingly.
-
I completely get that but it might be difficult to assemble a bunch of humans talented enough to perform the song especially locally !
-
But it isn't necessarily. The satisfaction of producing a professional sounding song using AI as a tool for me has been just as good as sitting for hours with a guitar or bass to come up with a single element of a track. You are mastering a new and different craft if you are using it to do more than just writing a prompt to produce a funny song about basschat. I have spent days on a single as yet unfinished song using AI so it isn't just here's a sentence and out pops a masterpiece.
-
I really don't but obviously didn't intend to be insulting. If you get joy from music crafting songs and performing them with your friends AI doesn't change that at all. Why should the joy from music creation only come from the way a particular group define it to be ? The processes are different but the end point is the same.
-
But I think that is the thing it can be extremely good and human created music can equally be woeful. I still see it as an artistic endeavour, before I was just a bassist, now I'm also a lyricist, sound engineer, producer, arranger etc. Obviously you can just tell Suno to give you a blues song with a male singer and it will, but that isn't how I use it, I have literally used 1000's of generations honing songs to get them to be the finished article I want. This weekend I am starting collaborations with another musician who uses AI for creation but differently than I do - this could be the magic sauce ! I also worked at a University till last year and saw the fear that all AI would produce was cheating students but the reality was something completely different when you saw how it could positively contribute to teaching and learning and help those with accessibility issues etc. I understand the fear musicians have whereby the tens of thousands of hours invested in honing skills can be replaced by a one sentence prompt but this will open up music to so many people who haven't got the time or commitment to put in the effort.

I probably still listen to Big Country more than any other band. What a unique sound they had and such a tragedy for Stuart to end in that way.

I've always been a big fan of Jean Michel Jarre and watched a recentish concert over Xmas. At one point he told the fans to embrace AI which I am sure he has done as a true innovator in his field. Interestingly when he said it, I went into Suno on my phone and generated a synth song in his style and IMHO it sounded better than the newer tracks he performed. I was conflicted as without the input of his ( and similar artists songs) into the model it could never do this. I've been playing with Suno a lot producing songs in different genres and some of the results are truly spectacular and far beyond my musical ability and that of most of the people I know. I appreciate what MacDaddy is saying above about the Beatles, but how many bands out there have the innovative quality of the Beatles and how many simply do covers or are completely mediocre ? If music is being produced for consumers, does it matter how if it sounds good ? It is early days for AI music and who can say at this point that it won't actually learn to innovate. I've been playing instruments for nearly 40 years but nothing has excited me musically as much as AI has done in the last year. Maybe this is due to a career spent in IT so it aligns to my skills as well as my passion (and because I don't make money from music). Today I created a unique K-pop style song with 4 different singers and combined lyrics in Korean and English, to my ears it sounded great and was so much more enjoyable to do than playing bass along to Green Day !

Hils have let me down with my pickguard order. Nearly a 3 month wait and it wasn't included in the Anderton's shipment.☹️ Anderton's are trying to make up for it by sending me one off a bass they have in for refurb but it may not be perfect. I suppose if not I can use it as a template and get one made. Disappointing.

Needed a small light bass ( 23" scale) while recovering from an op and this seemed to tick all of the boxes. It's pink and a bit sparkly, has a roasted maple neck and comes with a nice gig bag and all for £200. I bought it from gig gear, the fit and finish were great and set up pretty spot on. I'm going to try a Tonerider Duke pickup in it but the stock one was fine for the price. Well done Ashdown.

Chatgpt has just recommended Lenspeed logistics as a courier to potentially transport my Ricky if I sell it. Having just had DHL destroy a one off custom guitar, I was looking for a better service than the usual suspects and wondered if anybody had any experience of this company and a rough price for a £3k bass transported within the UK fully insured.

The 2nd episode was definitely the least interesting of the three. -

Cort space 5 and the fluctuating prices …
edstraker123 replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
I liked the HILS HNB5 better than the Space -I picked it up new from Andertons at £479 and presumably that deal will come back at some point. Might be worth considering if you haven't definitely made up your mind or got one already. Just checked and they are on offer again at £479. Also Andertons are an easy place to return to if it wasn't for you. -
I can't put this bass down it sounds and plays so great. I got some self adhesive wheel weights and put them in the control cavity - 5 strips wasn't enough so I've ordered another 5. If £10 sorts out the only issue this might be one of the best buys ever. I don't really want to go the ultralites route as I couldn't live with screw holes from the original tuners.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
edstraker123 replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Here's the Cort GB Short scale I snagged at the weekend. It's truly phenomenal other than the neck dive : -
The bargain got even better. I wanted to change strings so looked on Amazon hoping for a black Friday deal. I was looking for D'addario Chromes flats and they had a short scale set listed as used like new for £22. I was cynical thinking what I'd end up with was a cut down, unbranded long scale set but they arrived and were genuine chromes and uncut. Looks like somebody took them out of the pack and didn't like the look of them. They work absolutely brilliantly on the bass. Having played on it all morning I concur with the review above that the bass can hold it's own with much more expensive instruments. In a blind test if I was told this cost £600- £700 I'd have thought it was good value for that . Why oh why Cort hadn't designed out the neck dive issue I'll never know, as it would have been a 10/10 bass without it.

Completely agree.

I've got some on a Sire GB5 electroacoustic which is more like a hybrid bass with just a Piezo pickup and they sound sublime. I've tried the golds too but definitely favour the copper.
-
I got it for £169 used as new off Ebay and they are generally £299 new in Stores in the UK.
