1. I'm looking for a compact stand that I can use at gigs, something that doesn't take up much floor space and folds up pretty small. I have a Hercules hanger stand which is great, but it's quite big and doesn't fold up very small. Ideally I'd use a Markbass keeper strap, but the handle on my cab is in line with the neck joint on my bass so can't use one. Drew at GBBL recommended the Cooperstand duro pro, but they look like a bass would lean really far back on one. All thoughts and suggestions welcome
2. I'd have gone for the stingray personally (love HH's) but fair play, hope the two of you are very happy together
3.
This might enlighten you a bit :-)
That's a great looking and sounding bass! Anyobydy out there own a fender MIM/MIA precision and a Maruszczyk Jake? How do they compare?
4. I know it's only the prototype but it doesn't look like it has any rubber feet
5.
I bet it sounds as good as it looks.
Thanks man, it so does! The sound dispersion is fantastic!
6. So after a looooooong time of faffing, decision making and overthinking, I went for it and bought the Markbass Little Mark Tube and the Bergantino CN 212. I play a stingray and was aiming to have a rig that was transparent and presented my bass as it was designed to sound, whilst also having a few tonal options available. It's safe to say that with this amp head and cabinet I've achieved that goal. I love the LM Tube, until tonight though I'd only played it through Markbass cabs. I don't need to go on about how the LM Tube sounds, as both the LM III and tube versions are well respected heads around here. Needless to say I love it! I know some people argue that the tube doesn't do all that much, but I personally can hear the difference and like the slight wooliness/warmth it adds to the sound. What I love about this head is that I can select the back pickup on my stingray, run solely on solid state and maybe bring in the VPF filter a little and I cut through the mix clear as day - but I can also run the tube preamp, select the neck pickup on my stingray and turn up the VLE filter to get a surprisingly warm sound that sits in the mix nicely. The first time I played through a CN 212 it was like my ears had been opened. My practice amps at home were fender rumble amps, and the band I used to play in had a knackered old Ashdown 4x10 combo so I'd never really played through a top cab before. I made a 3 hour trip to try a CN 212 alongside a CN410 and a Vanderkley 212MNT. I discovered that I was definitely a 12" guy, and loved the CN's tight focused low end over the Vanderkley (also why I didn't go for a HDN cab). It makes me laugh that when I was debating whether to buy one or not, I was worried that it might be playing into the back of my knees- no chance! Tonight was the first time I've paired these two up. The LM Tube seems to just sing through the Berg cab. I tried the head through a Markbass 104HF and 121H, and the Bergantino is so much more clear sounding (the Markbass cabs seem to roll off the highs). I am one very happy bunny
7. Hey man any updates on the new videos?
8.
Contrary to many people opinions, the B7K is capable of very warm gritty drive, there is an early demo video somewhere showing what it can do. It's not all about heavy drive and fizzy top end, you just need to know how to use a 4 band eq and the switches and see how they interact! However, if warmth is your main goal. A vmtd does make sense, and the new version looks superb
Oh I know! On talkbass I've been informing others about the b7k's abilities and I don't even own one. All I meant is I'm interested in the vulcan/xl, and wish thomann stocked them so I could order a b7k, vmtd, vulcan/xl and vt bass di at the same time and compare them.
9. I wish thomann stocked pike pedals, at some point I will be buying the b7k, new vmtd and t bass di and will return two. I'm 99% sure for a designated drive I'd get a vmt, I'm just looking for something to provide a hair of drive and to warm up my sound a little.
10. So I just ordered a CN 212 I was talking to Mark at Bass Direct about the CN v HDN 212, and he said there would be a longer wait on the HDN than first though, and they would cost more than first thought as the £ has crashed against the $. The first time I tried the CN 212 was alongside a Vanderkley 212MNT - while it was a really nice cabinet, the low end was a little much. So I think the CN is probably better suited to me than the HDN cabs.
11.
Bypass will be bypassed. Just your clean sound. Pedal on but drive off will just have the EQ, which will sound similar to B8K but perhaps with some different EQ points. The major differences will be in the drive channel, and the old era knob only affected the drive side.
If the era affected the clean side that would be the 1 pedal for me. As it stands, I'm not too bothered about the completely clean sounds from either the b7k or the vmtd.
12. JimmyM really rates the PF800, said it gets VERY close to the 7pro without all the issues. Hope the 2 of you are very happy together
13. I know it doesn't have the knob - it's hardwired to the max position on the new vmtd so I imagine that it would be the same with the vmt ultra.
14. The vmt version of the ultra is going to be really interesting, will the bypass sound be completely the same as the b7k, or will it have some of that vintage loveliness due to the era function?
15. I've only tried 2x12's so very little if any help, but of those brandss I'd pick Vanderkley over Barefaced any time.
16. The b8k is the nickname (kind of), Doug's said they will be giving the vmtd the same treatment, i.e. ultra, in a few months time.
17.
Stingray. /thread
This.
18.
All controversy aside I'm curious to hear what these pedals are like once people have had their hands on them for a while. I REALLY like the B7K and, in my humble opinion, its modern, baked-in sound isn't that discernible in a full band-setting (at least how I use it) and I find I can tune it to be a clean boost (with some EQing), a bit gritty to producing metallic hellfire. I do wonder if the the Vulcan XL is more my thing though....
Sound like a broken record, but me too!
19.
So who's going to buy one from the US then? We still need an A/B test
Yes we do!
20.
Whatever the perceived advantages I just can't get past the look...
+1,000,000.
21. Wonder what's happened there? That's annoying, means you'd have to order from the US.
22. I used to think the same as you - heck I don't even own any DG pedals at the minute! - but I think the b7k and new vmtd are both capable of nice mellow sounds when EQ'd right.
