1. It's interesting that you should say the b3k sounds LESS metallic - I thought that was the b3k's sound.
2. Don't have the transport for a likely bigger amp right now
3. I appreciate that it's difficult, tbh no music shops stock any of the aforementioned pedals near me - as it's going to involve stopping over somewhere by london to try these, I want to be sure of what the contenders are. chrismuzz, which do you prefer with the sansamp? Am I right in assuming that the md blueberry isn't capable of the darkglass vmt vintage od sound, or the b3k metallic sounding od, but has a big variety in sounds in between the two? FretNoMore, to give you a bit more info - my band plays a mix of all sorts; from Saturday Night by the Misfits, to Monkey Wrench by the Foo Fighters, to Radar Love by Golden Earring, to Hot Stuff by Donna Summer, to Three Days Grace cover of The Chain... I was thinking the other day, and while I have a couple of iconic bass lines/solos, I don't play any of them without one of the two distorted guitars playing the same line. I play a Epi classic pro t-bird, but will be buying a new bass in the near future. I play through a fender rumble 75, and will be using it alongside a W&C tfr, a TLC compressor, and a TC mini spark. It depends on which I get - if I don't get the b7k then I will be getting an eq, something like the tone hammer.
4. the knightfall66 sounds almost more like a fuzz!
5. Thanks for the advice, I play through a Fender Rumble 75.
6. Hi I'm currently planning a pedalboard - I've got my TC Electronic Mini Spark booster, and it looks like I'll be getting my hands on a W&C TFR in the near future. I'm now looking at overdrives. To be honest, the B3K by itself sounds a bit too metallic for my liking, but I reckon in a band setting it would cut through the mix really well - especially as both guitarists in my band are distorted. Also, I've heard one with a tall font russian and it sounded ace! The Darkglass Vintage is probably the least appealing contender. I've heard a lot of people say negative things about this, and a lot of them pointed out that it's an average od pedal - which is remarkable considering the price tag! However, then I saw this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-TKjoFQZqo . Not mad on the vintage by itself, but the sound of both the vintage and the b3k together is incredible! For a while I was weighing up the choice between the b7k or the b3k and something like a tone hammer. Then somebody cough* thanks DiMarco *cough smartly suggested I sort out the overdrive first, then see if I need an eq. I know the Ashdown hyperdrive is VERY different to all of the above, but watching this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQDSDA929Sw - where LoMenzo dials the pedal in himself, I really like the sound it produces. At a fraction of the price! Tbh I don't know too much about the blueberry, but having done a quick youtube search I like what I heard! So what do I do? Do I go b3k knowing that it sounds good with one of the other pedals I'll be getting, or combine it with the vintage? Do I get the b7k and not have to worry abut sorting an eq, or use the b7k as a clean boost with one of the others as the od pedal? Or do I just get the lomenzo hyperdrive, or the blueberry? Perhaps what I'm seeking is probably somewhere between a classic, warm overdrive and a modern, metallic sounding overdrive. Any recommendations based on all this info (Sorry for length of post) that aren't listed above? ANy help would be much appreciated, thankyooouuu
7. Sorry to be gegging in on OP, but all of this is so helpful! DiMarco, that first video you posted is awesome, I love the sound of both pedals on! I'm so stuck now - I don't have decent eq on my amp (rumble 75), but then I'm not sure if overdrive would always be on. Maybe I just save up some more pennies and get both the b3k and vmt, and get the tone hammer.
8. This is a couple of days, but anywho... I got this little beauty on Christmas Day. I'm in the planning stages of a pedalboard, but currently I only really need a booster pedal for solos on the bass. I knew this was a small pedal - the mini version of the standard spark booster - but I didn't realise just how small this pedal was until I opened the box! This would be fantastic for anyone looking to save real estate on their pedalboard. It's a beautiful looking pedal too, I love the design of it! Not long finished playing with it, and I absolutely love it!!! Whether using it as a clean boost or turning it right up and getting some saturation, it sounds fantastic!Playing with my thunderbird, I find it actually adds clarity to my tone. As I said, I'm only planning my pedalboard at the minute, but i tried it with my dad's old boss overdrive pedal for guitar. With the OD it sounded epic, it made the pedal sound so much better. I wouldn't use it without the mini spark! Overall I couldn't be happier - I love the look and the sound of it, and it's great when used with other pedals

Xmas FX

I put a tc electronic mini spark booster on my list, let's hope I've been good enough!
10. Thanks, I hadn't considered that I would need the the distortion constantly on as well. Can anybody recommend a good eq to use with the b3k - is the aguilar tone hammer any good?
11. lomenzo hyperdrive isn't too expensive
12. Well as I don't already have an EQ, should I consider the b7k? I've been considering a b3k and a tone hammer (can't afford both the vintage, b3k and eq) and I know the b3k works well with muff style fuzzes. The b7k would certainly be the cheaper alternative (can't imagine that's said very often!), but would it work as well?
13. where does the b7k sit, with the amount of adjustabilty available?
14. Sorry to disappoint but I live in Newton-le-Willows in Merseyside, just to clear up any confusion. I absolutely agree that deluxe bbm and lomenzo hyperdrive are hardly ideal in terms of real estate on my board, but do you think they could get the right sound?
15. looking for a muff style fuzz, think for me it'll either be the tfr or the ppb

Pedal power

A friend has the PSU. Said it's really easy to use, there's significantly less noise than powering pedals individually and never has any problems with it. Thinking of getting one after talking to him about it
17. a Rat Tail's distortion isn't it? Do you have any experience with the darkglass vmt?
18. I think the b3k could be a bit too metallic-sounding for me, but the thought of running a darkglass vintage and lomenzo hyperdrive together intrigues me...
19. amazing gear in that vid but I don't think the b3k sounds right for hysteria. it would be interesting to see a darkglass vintage pedal used to play hysteria. The b3k sounds very metallic - are either the b3k or b7k capable of producing a warmer, more classic-sounding overdrive?
20. I thought I had sorted what my next purchases would be - the W&C tfr and b3k. But after that demo, the deluxe bass muff might have changed that. Probably wouldn't be as good, but the deluxe bbm and the lomenzo hyperdrive could maybe get a similar sound, at more than half the price of my original choice. Thanks 1976Fenderhead!
21. tall font russian fuzz through a tone hammer with AGS on
22. The b3k and lomenzo are on my gas list! What are they like in comparison?
23. Wow that thing looks incredible! Where on earth did you get it?! I know you said you just didn't get on with the b7k - but was it metal or nothing?
24. I could really do with some help! I'm just about to put a pedalboard together. I'll be running an Aguilar TLC compressor, and a fuzz - probably a W & C tall font russian, or a musket or something like that. I also want to include an overdrive on the board - I'm considering both pedals in the title and the darkglass vmt too. I love the vintage-y sound of the vintage microtubes, but I've heard from a number of people that it just doesn't work either side of a fuzz. The b7k is awesome, but the EQ would only be adjusting the distorted tone - whereas the b3k with another preamp (probs tone hammer) wouldn't be the case. SO, what do I do? Does anybody have any experience of these pedals? Or any of the ODs alongside a fuzz? Any help much appreciated, thank youuu
