Hi all I'd previously seen pictures of these and though they looked good, but this one sounds fantastic! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CEbvFu4Ezw. Still a gazillion pounds out of my budget, but... DAYUM!

Stumbled across a YamahaTRB6PII bass in my local Cash Generator, these are discontinued aren't they? Thing looked flawless, £1400 seemed a decent price. Just don't know what I'd do with the extra two strings.

Fender Geddy Lee jazz vs American Deluxe jazz
Guinness21 replied to Guinness21's topic in Bass Guitars
Fair point, trouble is the nearest shop that stocks Laklands is 4 trains away, taking 3 hours. Tbh I don't know too much about them, just heard they're good - but it's a long way to go and back in a day to check if there's one in particular I like. I already have 4 contenders, which I've played and really like. -
Fender Geddy Lee jazz vs American Deluxe jazz

It's a bit weird that you comment on your own comments - just put them all in to one big one. I HAVE played the am. deluxe, and it looks like I'm not going to bother with the geddy anyway - according to you the only thing unique/special about it is he neck profile, right? Well if the american deluxe jazz bass has great pickups, an active/passive switch and a real nice sating finish on the neck, then it is worth twice the price to me. -
What about the new tech 21 vt bass di? Anybody got any experience with one of these yet, sounds very exciting!

Fender Geddy Lee jazz vs American Deluxe jazz

I didn't know the geddy lee is made in mexico these days. Tbh, with the pickups in the deluxe and the graphite truss rod I'm thinking I might go for the american deluxe jazz. -
Have you seen this? http://johnbscott.com/preamp_shootout/ could be helpful if you haven't

Fender Geddy Lee jazz vs American Deluxe jazz

I though the pickups in the geddy were american vintage, they're surely not run of the mill! The geddy lee's neck might be thinner, but doesn't it have a 'sticky' gloss finish to the neck? -
the cog effects sounds great, but how does it stack up against the b7k?

Fender Geddy Lee jazz vs American Deluxe jazz
Guinness21 replied to Guinness21's topic in Bass Guitars
It's the deluxe, not the standard - which mean it has the active circuitry and noiseless pickups. Well I have played the am. deluxe, it was just when I looked up the geddy and found that it had a great bridge and pickups, so it had to be considered. -
Fender Geddy Lee jazz vs American Deluxe jazz

I know some people say yes and some say no to having issues with the neck on the geddy, but the fact that a fair few people have isn't fantastic. Can find no complaints about the am. deluxe's neck. -
Struggling to look past the sansamp para driver. This is fantastic - http://johnbscott.com/preamp_shootout/ - the aguilar's on there, alongside some others.

Fender Geddy Lee jazz vs American Deluxe jazz

Thanks Lozz196 Well with the addition of the passive/active switch it can only be more versatile. I know skej21 said the pickups are aggressive, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Isn't it true that precisions are the better for using distortion with, because of the thumpy sound? Well I'd be using a fuzz & overdrive on whichever bass I get. So that could well be a good thing. -
Fender Geddy Lee jazz vs American Deluxe jazz

If I went for the geddy lee, I would put new tuners on it, possibly swap the knobs for chrome barrels, get a hard case, and if I went for the black one I would have to put a black pickguard on there. Doing all that would raise the price to not far off the am. deluxe. With finances not being a factor, does that chance anything? With the new pickguard, it would essentiallly look like the am. deluxe, but black ad oppose to natural, so calling it on looks is a toughie. So I think it comes down to the pickups and the neck. -
Could do with some help I'm in the market for a second bass. I'm getting a scholarship at the end of the month which means my budget can just about stretch to an american deluxe jazz. There are other contenders - a 2eq stingray and an am. standard precision, but the jazzes are the front runners. I've only been playing for about 18 months, and whilst I have quite an eclectic taste in music, never really listened to any Rush. I've heard Geddy's name on here and tb a lot, but only recently thought to look up his signature bass. With a badass bridge, I think american vintage pickups (?) and it's looks, it has to be considered. I know the deluxe has active capabilities, but is it really worth the extra £££'s? Any help, or experience of either of these basses, would be much appreciated

Anybody have any experience of both the b7k and thee cog knightfall, and has a preference of the two? I'm surprised so many people are saying lomenzo hyperdrive - admittedly I was considering ti after seeing the youtube vid where LoMenzo dials it in, but in that vid he uses it alongside an Aphex Exciter and compressor pedal, so I wouldn't be able to get that sound. Besides, wile the hyperdrive applies the od to specific frequencies, the MP Blueberry can do that with the nature control and then a whole lot more.

As far as I'm aware the Aguilar Tone Hammer is meant to be pretty good.
-
aaah, i see. thanks for the heads up X)
-
I'm looking at the sansamp para driver & the sadowsky di - is one clearly better than the other?
-
Which of these three is the best compressor for tone shaping (not looking for a limiter in a compressor) - the Markbass compressore, the Aguilar TLC or the Diamond compressor?
-
Does anybody have any clips of a sansamp with a lomenzo hyperdrive? That sounds tasty!
-
That's a fair point about the ashdown vid, so in reality the hyperdrive won't sound as good as in that video. I currently play through a Fender rumble 75 - decent enough size for when the band goes gigging, can handle decent sized venues. I think it's between the b3k and blueberry now. If i decide I want an eq in there, I can always upgrade to a b7k. Tbh, i've recently been considering the sansamp bddi - don't know why I haven't done so sooner. As the overdrive will be played with a tall font russian, i was just wondering if one might be better to work with the fuzz. I know the tfr is mid-scooped, and the nature dial on the blueberry means the od sound can be applied to specifically mids if I want.

The cover you did of man in the bos sounds ace? Did you use the combo of pedals on that?
