1.
I have a Protec Contego that my Ray34 goes in and it's a brilliantly good fit. Never felt the need to use the neck strap thing on any gig bag that's had one... D.
That's great for you, but for me having used gig bags that don't have them I'd feel much happier having one to use.
 2. Is it worth paying the extra for the Protection Racket deluxe over the standard?
 3. I'm looking at getting a gig bag to use with my Musicman Stingray, the case is a bit bulky to move about. The Mono M80 Vertigo looks great but I just can't bring myself to pay £150 for a gig bag! I have a TGI extreme, but it's falling apart after having it for 2 years. So I'm after something between the two. I want something that's obviously padded well, but I specifically want a gig bag that has a strap/brace to hold the neck in place. Bags I've looked at so far: - Ultimate Support USS1-EB (haven't heard too much about them but it meets all my requirements) - Stagg Deluxe (my dad just bought one and it seems quality, a lot of gig bag for the money) For the right product I might stretch my budget to around £100. - The Mono M80 sleeve - looks great, but I'm not too confident about how well it would protect my bass. - Protec Contego - Looks sturdy and gets good reviews, not happy with the neck just resting on a neck block though, I want a strap or neck brace. - Fusion F1 - gets a lot of good reviews, it's available on their own site for £100 (sold out currently). It seems like quite a large bag though? - Rockready Volo - very intriguing, haven't found much info on them. Impressive-looking but not cheap, not sure I could stretch my budget quite that far. What are people's thoughts on the bags I've mentioned? Are there any others I should be considering? I'm not willing to spend what I deem mega money so no Mono Vertigo, Gruv Gigblade, IGig G515 or anything else in that price bracket.
 4. The original Fender Starcaster bass?
 5.
For me it is about how I lift the cab into the back of the car. The CN212 is taller than the LNT and I found myself having to lift and twist to get it in there which was really starting to hurt my back. The LNT just lifts straight in due to its squatter shape. I am sure that for others this may not be an issue but for me it really is, the CN is still a great cab but practically the height doesn't work for me with the lift. I tried 2x CN112 but couldn't get on with them so I tried the Vanderkley which I really liked. Are you still loving your CN212?
I sure am! Fair enough. In terms of putting it in my car I just pick it up with one hand and lay it down sideways. I always find moving 4x10's difficult by myself, end up waddling like a penguin.
 6. Since I've been using an 18v adaptor I've had no issues.
 7.
The Magellan will do what you need very well, it goes from wide clean to fat mids to a nice distorted sound, the Aurora is a clean machine but sounds incredible. Have not tried the other amps so can't comment. I have the Magellan paired with the Vanderkley 410LNT and it kills. 1/4 volume is even too much sometimes. The 410 LNT is the best cab I have ever played through, and it is a breeze to move around-easier than a CN212!
I'm curious how the 410LNT is easier to move than the CN212, it's slightly heavier and shape-wise is bigger and bulkier.
 8. Hi, I'm 23 and live in between Warrington and St. Helens. I have a car so don't mind travelling to Liverpool/Manchester. I've been in a few bands and have a lot of gigging experience. I have a quality rig that can handle to small to reasonably big venues without PA support, plus I have a DI pedal if PA support is needed. I'm looking to play in a rock/metal band, don't mind if it's covers or original material. I'm committed and hard-working, but also pretty laid back and up for a laugh - after all the primary reason for doing this is to enjoy it right? If I sound like I might be a decent fit for your band message me on here or email me - [email protected] Cheers
 9. I saw the blue one, I don't like how pale the main colour is.
 10.
How is a five string going to help with drop C? As for the bass, never played one of these but it's a Spector, it will be superb.
Well drop C is such a drop in tuning that I would have to put heavier gauge strings on my stingray, whereas with a fiver I could tune it to CGCFA or something along those lines. Seems to be the same here then, people are recommending Spector basses and the Legend series, but nobody's played one of these neck thru's
 11. I might be joining a band who play everything in drop-c, so was thinking about buying a five string so I could keep my stingray in standard tuning. Anyone own or tried one of these? Looked around on talkbass but there doesn't seem to be much talk about them. Seems like a quality bass for the money, I'm intrigued by the Aguilar pickups and pre.
 12.
For me the tarkin from cog needs to be on that list, awesome deep and punchy fuzz, also love the fuzzrocious grey stache. And very recently got myself a pumpkin pi from green carrot which is brutal! Bit of a plug but I demo all of the one I mentioned in this video However of the ones you've mentioned I've heard good things about the tall font and the swollen is a really cool fuzz
If you're plugging the tarkin surely you've got to promote the stache too!
 13.
That 9V-18V charge pump circuit is actually used in loads of pedals these days. So if Pedaltrain say the Volto can work with an EHX Glove for example, that is no different to using the Diago adapter with an 18V pedal. No reason why you couldn't use two of them, however if the pedals don't draw too much current you could use a splitter off a single 18V adapter.
Thanks for that, very helpful. I'm buying a couple of the 18v adaptors. Finally made a decision on a compressor too, going for the Diamond bass comp. Thinking of grabbing a charge pack to use alongside the volto, seen a guy use one on talkbass and extended the life of the volto even further.
 14.
I think they are just erring on the side of caution, under normal operation the adapter should not damage your Volto. Sounds like a canned response from a support person who perhaps doesn't understand what this adapter does. If your Vulcan still hisses when it's the only pedal connected to the supply and the only one in your signal chain, then the isolation adapter will not help you either.
Thanks Dany, I think I was thinking this in the back of my mind but was just was airing on the side of caution.
I have a Volto and ran a Fulltone Bassdrive with the 9-18v adaptor no problem, but it was in a chain of only four pedals. I'm not overly keen on the Volto anyway - I can never guarantee the amount of charge available and the battery discharges at an alarming rate when not in use, so I have to plan in advance to ensure it's charged. I try to avoid using it to be honest.
So you've actually used one? I'd only be using 3/4 pedals too. Do you think I could use 2 adaptors with it? I saw this pic on talkbass, the guy was using a charge pack with the volto so it lasted a lot longer, was thinking of doing this.
 15. I've just started building my pedalboard, I've had a PT mini and volto for ages now after I was given them by pedaltrain as I did some work for them. I currently have a tc spark mini, tc polytune and just bought a pike vulcan xl. With the vulcan xl I get a bit of hiss and I'm hardly cranking the gain, spoke to a few people and that's not the norm. I was advised to run it at 18v - trouble is the volto can only deal with 9v. Then I saw one of these -18V Adaptor | Adaptors | Pedal Power | Products - and thought that might be the answer. I email Pedaltrain asking them, their response was: "I wouldn’t recommend doing that. The Volto was designed to run 9V Analog pedals, and anything outside of that may end up damaging the Volto and voiding the warranty." This is hardly confidence inspiring. I want a diamond bass comp too, but that's another 18v pedal. SO what do I do? Anybody out there who uses volto's and can offer advice? Do I try a 9-18v adaptor anyway, the diago site seams fairly confident about it. Do I stick to 9v pedals and just use one of these for the vulcan to stop the hiss? - Isolator Adaptor | Adaptors | Pedal Power | Products. Do I look for a new power supply? I love the convenience of the volto. Any/all advice appreciated
 16.
I keep looking at this which I like a lot... but I'm not really into shiny new basses, so it's fairly easy to resist.
If you're not into shiny new basses then this might be more up your street.
 17. There are a couple of bass that I loved the sound of, just didn't click with them in terms of playability. Fender p bass and ric 4003 - with the p bass, I didn't like that the top of the pickup was angled into the body as I couldn't rest my thumb there, and I hated the pickup cover on the ric. If I were to own either one, I know there are ways I could get round these issues.
 18.
I`d look at some form of drive pedal where if you dig in you get the drive, but backing off it cleans up - essentially as Danny said, that classic slightly overdriven Ampeg sound. Ampeg SCR does that very well, as does Tech21 VT DI, or the classic Sansamp. But whatever you choose, well done on getting in that band, really good songs, good move there methinks.
Thanks man!
 19.
Just listening on soundcloud. It sounds like there's some overdrive on the bass in the heavier sections, and it works really well. The Darkglass is certainly flavour of the month but it is what almost everyone is using at the moment. Any sort of sansamp dealie would be OK, but I think you're looking for a pedal to turn on and off, rather than an "always on" as there are some cleaner sections.
Fair point that about not just leaving something on, thanks.
 20.
I'd say you wouldn't need an overdrive per se, but the classic slightly overdriven Ampeg tone would slot in very well here. Not obviously distorted, but just a bit of extra growl and fatness. So if you're not getting that from your amp already I'd maybe look into a new amp or a preamp pedal like the VT Bass or Le Bass or something. Then a mild OD or simple boost pedal just to kick things up a notch when required... and maybe a RAT-ish pedal for when you want very prominent distortion for the occasional track that has a stand-out-front bassline (don't be afraid to rewrite some of those basslines either!). Just had Soundcloud playing as I wrote that. Some overdriven bass with a few growly slides thrown in would work very well in I'm Not a Hero in the intro where the screams alternate with the delayed guitar!
Thanks man! Tbh I was thinking always-on light drive, at some point I'll get the b7k, vmtd and vt di from thomann and send back the ones I don't want. Might buy a vulcan xl too, if I don't like it don't think it would be difficult to move on. I will be rewriting some of the bass lines at some point, just we've got gigs at the beginning of April so I'm on a crash course learning the material haha
 21. Just joined a new band, I was looking at a couple of drive pedals but decided to hold back for a bit while I get to know the band's sound better. Here's what they sound like - https://soundcloud.com/silver-story. 90% of the time the bass is playing the exact same as the guitars (a lead player created and played the bass lines). I know overdrive can be used in different ways within bands - like a heavy overdrive on bass in a 3 piece band to thicken the sound, or an aggressive/grindy drive to poke through distorted guitars. Do you think I should be using drive in this band? I play a stingray which cuts through very clear at the minute.
 22. Buy a stingray and play it through a cranked valve amp
 23. I've got a volto but not used it yet, can you use 9-12/18v adaptors with them? Like the gigrig supanova.
 24.
Symetrix 501 !!!!! if you can get hold of one. 19 inch rack unit, though.
Thanks man but not interested in rack units.
