1. Had a mate go awol for the last week or so, finally contacted me last night to say he wasn't going so I've got one spare ticket Will be at Victoria between 6 and 7 or probably easier to meet outside, don't make me sell to a tout! EDIT: On hold, last nights gig was cancelled as Terry Hall's got a throat infection - announcement at 2pm today as to whether tonights is going ahead...
2. The singer in my old band is proof that if work your butt off you can succeed and get a damn good job after uni. During his final year of Music Management he did a stint at Primary Booking for the work experience part of the course and has been there for nearly 2 years now (as a booking agent).
3. To play would be How Many More Times or some Clutch. To listen to would be Down, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity or the majick Mystik Krewe of Klearlight.
4. Bit of Canned Heat, Janis Joplin too, love all that stuff! As for John Mayall, Parchman Farm on 'With Eric Clapton' is one of my favourite blues tracks, I think it's a very overlooked period of British music, some great reworkings of old blues tunes and some brilliant originals. Parchman Farm And as for Rory Gallagher, I mentioned Taste on the last page, and this is one of my favourtie performances of his: Gambling Blues
5. Apologies for getting all self righteous.
6. If you're on a public road then you can't be sure there's no-one around. You could be the drifting champion of the world but if someone less 'skilled' than you pulls out (maybe because they can't judge speed) in front while you're 'learning your limits' you're gonna be in trouble. Similarly you could meet someone learning their limits coming the other way. I love driving, I love speed, and there are plenty of places where you can find your limits in a controlled environment (run what you brung) or have a blast in something you'll never be able to drive normally (track days). Anything else is just stupid in my opinion.
7. I've used ronseal wood filler before, can be messy but if you mask up and use it sparingly it's easy. Also used it to fill some dings on my fretless before priming, once dry it sands nicely so easy to get flat for an invisible fix.
8.
Glen Campbell's version is much better.
Just had a listen on spotify, it's pretty damn good! EDIT: His version of Times Like These is brilliant too
9.
So far as I'm concerned I'm quite happy for bands to change their sound over time, even if I end up not liking them. If someone told me what I should be sounding like I'd tell them to go shove themselves; it's entirely up to the band.
I don't hold it against them! I just don't buy their stuff anymore. Insomniac was quite a change but I loved that, didn't like most of Nimrod (Good Riddance is the only song I can remember off that album and I think it's great) and then didn't bother with the rest. Heard it everywhere anyway! I think Basket Case is probably in the running for the "Song massacred by the most covers bands ever" award too
10. John Mayall and the Bluesbreakes feat. Eric Clapton Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac (aka good Fleetwood Mac) Free Groundhogs Taste
11. Nimrod was the turning point, everything before then is awesome. So there. And it's not because they got successful, it's because their sound changed (as many bands do over the years, sometimes for the better, sometimes not)
12. What strings does everyone use on their fretless? I've got these bad boys on at the mo: Galli Black Nylon Taperwound - plenty of 'Mwah' and a nice thump, kind to the fingerboard and lovely to slide on too!
13.
Technocrat? One has to love how black and white any issues regarding driving seem to be. Enjoying the fun of gracefully sliding a skinny tyred car around an empty roundabout seems to place you in the same pigeonhole as overtaking a bus at 45mph outside a school at 3pm during the week.
If you wanna do that go to a run what you brung day. I've got no time for people who wanna play race driver, it may be graceful until you hit a patch of oil, there's a change in camber or you have to try and avoid any number of things that might be on a public road, that happens and you'll swap ends quicker than your sphincter can snap shut.
14. 4 wheel 'drifting' in a front wheel drive car on public roads? There's a word for that and it starts with T and ends with at.
15.
I can get my Type-S doing very nice balanced four wheel drifts around roundabouts
What Type-S? Between my 328 Tourer and my guitarist's cavenous mondeo we're sorted; I usually take the personnel though, leave the hauling to the tractor
16.
Well i did it ! The guitarist/singer decides to leave his acoustic at home and bring his les paul and distortion pedals!!! So we had crossroads and sunshine of your love along with Hendrix and Thin lizzy ....and fretless . Couldnt hear myself or compete with this and drums !! Oh well Back to the Warwick next week and i am gonna SLAP till their ears are ringing !!
Should have got some Bad Company in there and you would have been sorted!
17. I use my fretless on one tune at the moment, but am doing some of my singer's acoustic stuff soon and if we gig that it will be fretless + pod; haven't played it live with the full band yet i've got enought stuff to carry! I know all about intonation - I had to move the bridge to get it right (damn my half arsed measuring!)
18.
I have an ashdown Evo III, and on the new EVO IVs they have a foot controller for the sub-harmonics, EQ, etc. and I would definitely use it if I had a foot controller as when ever I'm doing somehing melodic ina breakdown high up the neck, it sounds really nice, but down in the first octave of a 4-string it sounds muddy
On the back there's a section called "Mute F/S" which has two inputs called "Output" and "Sub" Get a locking footswitch and whack it in there. Sorted.
19. Had no problems with my TU-2, find it's more accurate on strobe mode. Built like a tank, the only way I'd need another tuner is if this got half inched. To replace it? A TU-2!
20. I like my ART Levelar, got it from here a couple of years ago and it's had no problem coping with my Spector. Used it on vocals and acoustic too, simple and sounds great but don't think they do them anymore? If you can find one snap it up
21. Have you got the missing input mix knob on the ABM?
Not finding it funny eh? Why? Did yours catch on fire?
Mines usually on all day at band practise, I let anyone use it at gigs so it's on for a good stint being pushed and I've never had any problems, nor have I heard of heard of any combustion issues.

It wasn't funny on page 1, repeating it every 5 posts won't help.
Interesting that a lot of you are using these to good effect. My recollections are that they can be deemed to be unreliable, it appears from this thread that perhaps that is not so true and they are in fact good solid workhorses? Steve
Mine had a pint of water thrown over it and after drying out it was as good as always
