Hope you get it working soon.
All sorted now mate! Thanks I'd connected my pickup's output to the EMG battery connection on the battery clip, moved it to the volume pot and it was fine. Just a bit of routing to do tonight
In a normal circuit, you just solder the pickup signal wire to the appropriate tang on the volume pot and make sure the earth is soldered to the casing or another earth lead (depending on the pickups). Not sure how the EMG battery wiring might make things more complicated though. It depends on how the tone pump has been removed and even then its going to be tricky to talk someone through that on a forum without the instrument in plain view.
No worries, I've emailed spector to see if they can help. If not I know a couple of people who could probably do it easy, but I've been trying to do this all myself (strip, paint, fit new neck - move bridge - and new electronics) and now it feels like I've fallen at the last hurdle! I'm sure it's a simple mistake on my part I'm gonna undo what I've done and start again I think Still, I can finally finish off my pedalboard tonight after buying a metre of velco just now!

Okay, so tone pump has arrived (cheers voxpop!) and before I solder I've 'mocked up' the circuit by twisting wires together. Was getting output but the pots were having no effect so have I connected something in a way to bypass the pots? I had red pickup wire - red wire on battery clip (connected to tone pump) Bare pickup wire - ground on volume pot (ground then goes to tone pump) Black wire on battery clip - sleeve on output jack Earth from tone pot - ring or tip (can't remember now) on output jack And only unconnected output from tonepump - ring or tip on output jack I've got a picture and will post later, forgot to upload to photo bucket last night. Cheers!
Proper bass-porn style pics of the Talbo will come soon, I intend to do a proper gallery of all my stuff in the gear porn section. The Talbo's a great bass to sit at home & play & muck about with, but unfortunately it's terribly microphonic - which means at gig volume it squeals like a piggy. I tend to use a few effects too, which only makes things worse. Great shame, it's a stunning looking thing. J.
Does your one have the sound chambers like the alu ones? If not hate to thing what those are like on stage!

Hopefully have a tonepump for my fretless somepoint over the weekend, just thinking about wiring. It's a single (status) musicman pup, and after having a look at my Euro LX circuit it looks like it won't be a problem. To my (simple) mind: With a two pup setup it looks like it goes neck pup - volume - tonepump and bridge pup - volume - tonepump So I should be able to go pup - volume - tonepump and just leave out the second volume control... Shouldn't I?
I play in an original female-fronted progressive hard rock band. We have been previously described as "Prog-Goth Lesbians", which while factually wildly erroneous, is actually pretty damn cool, I think. We're presently beavering away (in the manner of very slow & distracted beavers) on an "album of musically & lyrically themed songs" called The Fifth Sun, which will be released sometime or other, and have as a result been declared " The Top Gear of prog rock - ambitious but rubbish". Jon.
Love the talbo, got anymore pics? I nearly bought and aluminium one a few years ago, awesome sound but the bloke in the shop wasn't interested at all so I though "BLEEP you mate you're not getting my cash!" Didn't realise they did the bass in wood too.
I use the G77s on my semi acoustic Tacoma Thunderchief. Nearest thing that I've got to a double bass sound. Although it has decreased the unplugged volume compared to phospher bronze. very smooth sound and very smooth on the fingers. Never tried them on an electric. About £18 from Stringbusters
Realise this is an old thread but thought I'd add some more info. I fitted a set of G77s to my electric fretless last night and had a play through my V-Amp, and they sound very nice. The most balanced set of strings I've used, very finger friendly too! Was a bit worried when I opened the package because it says "acoustic electric bass strings" but they're definitely "acoustic/electric bass strings" Will be giving them a bash through the amp on sunday so will know better, but even through headphones there was a nice double bass thump

www.myspace.com/eightdirtypages Recorded live at our rehearsal rooms a couple of weeks ago Bass was recorded with an SM57 about 2 foot away from the middle of the speaker (bottom cab of 2 2x12s) and I reckon I'll be doing it again like that in future

Funnily enough I had a copy of 'To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak The Truth' waiting on my doormat when I got home yesterday, love the production on that album 'filth' doesn't do it justice!

Brilliant, thanks guys! It's because I'm changing from a musicman neck (3 + 1) so don't have any point of reference, got all I need now though. It's gonna be a long night I reckon lol

Hello me again! Just received my Mighty Mite Fretless P bass neck from the states, all undrilled (as I expected) but one thing I didn't think about is how to get the string tree in the right place? Does anyone have a Mighty Mite P bass neck diagram to show where the proper placement is? Thanks again in advance

John East preamp crackling loudly - any ideas why?

Low battery? My tonepump makes weird noises when the battery's dieing.
