  1. Servisol is good stuff, iv been using colclene PCS for while now, according to the can they use it on missle guidence systems! i thought that was a good omen haha!
  2. I have the legend it does have the carved body but it's not as curved as the euros. Still very comfy though and have that Spector growl!
  3. It all depends on whether or not I come home with one I think haha!
  4. Thanks to this thread in off down the local music shop to try some tomorrow! Like the look of lake placid blue myself
  5. Iv had a revelation jazz neck under the bed for about a years now, bought it iff ebay for £20ish, I had completely forgot about it till these posts! It seems very well made, maple with blocks and binding, should put it on a body at some point!
  6. I picked up a mark bass blackline 250 for a steal second hand, I think it's great especially for the price. It Sounds good to me and there hasn't been any reliability issues. I use mine for home practice or for when my genz shuttlemax 12.2 is a bit over kill for a gig.
  7. tried out the lighter gauge strings and it did help quite a bit, but due to the price i got it for and my love of tinkering i picked up a Glockenklang 2band on board pre amp and wow! it sounds fantastic! really clean with lovely low end and a nice top, and the active/passive is always good to have, the bass is now perfect! iv also kept the tone pump jnr as it a pretty simple swap, so now i have two tone option with only 10 minutes of soldering!
  8. yeah there is nothing wrong with the tone, just not quite working! i play in a ska/punk band mainly but also get dragged in for playing bass in students bands in the college i work in as a tech. tbh i have a stingray SUB USA that is always perfect for the ska punk thing but i do love playing the Spector! iv taken on the advice on string change and have a set of lighter gauge DR on route as we speak! iv also been looking at the Glockenklang on board pre's as they seem to be regarded as pretty good, i also like the idea of a active/passive switch for more tonal fun. anyone had an experience with them? they're going on Thomann for £70 or so and i have a few review vouchers to redeem
  9. I purchased a Spector Legend last year in the rather fetching Bubinga colour, and even though i love how it feels, looks and plays the tone is just not right, it sounds fantastic but there is bit too much mid range growl for the music Im playing, its currently running with the tone pump jnr and the SSD EMG pups that come as standard. Is there any changes anyone could suggest in terms of pre-amp or pickup changes? or whether i need to change just the pre or something? i know that some of the USA models do come with Aguilar pickups and preamps, could this be the way to go? i had put it up for sale on here a while back but withdrew it after picking it up again and loving how it played. any help would be grand!
  10. my friends was given a Rhino88 bass as he wanted to try out bass instead of guitar for a bit, he gave it to me to lower the action that was at least a centimeter plus at the 12 frett, on putting the allen key in the truss rod to adjust it the whole thing slid around 2 inches deeper down the neck, so id say there pretty rubbish! think they sell for around £130 brand new harley benton basses and guitars have surprised me everytime, my 5 string P is a joy!
  11. one of these has been my main bass for 8 years, built like a tank and sounds great, i dont think i could ever sell it! a Bump for damn good bass!
  12. I also had one of these but in a rather fetching mattalic red, bought it for £60 and ended up selling it for £120ish on the ebayz. It was a very nice bass to play but was far to heavy for me to handle!
  13. Cheers guys, yeah I find the scratch a bit rubbish, but iv never liked tort, iv got some black poly sheeting I might build one from, red and black always works for me!
  14. i was suckered in by the deko bass posts and decided to take a punt and bought on of the black 4 string decoration acoustic basses, iv read a lot of them being in various states of playability, but this one is a diamond! There is nothing I can find that is wrong with it, neck straight (now) action low enough, electronics fine and the finish is pretty much perfect the only problem is it had the sticker inside for a 5 string fretless. I used to have an ibanez EAB acoustic and this new one is deffinately as good if not better! All for £40! Also whilst on thomanns site (which I may visit a bit too frequently....) I noticed one if the kahuna Ubasses that was reduced for being B stock so for £80 I took a punt, these little basses are incredibly fun! Sound great and perfect for sitting in front of the TV twiddling with, iv never played one of the Kalas so I duont have anything to judge it by but it plays nicely and sounds great if a little quiet whe plugged into my Genz rig. I also couldn't find why it was B-stock as there is nothing I can find wrong with the build finish or electrics I bought these a couple of weeks back and have meaning to get round to a NBD post, I'd almost forgotten to do one when, On my birthday Yeasterday my missus came around with a rather large box, what could it be I wondered, upon opening it up it turned out to be a harley Benton PJ-5 HT. She had obviously heared me chunttering about trying 5 string ( after being a 4 string player for 9years) and saw me in good old thomann looking for bargains, in the end she found a B-stock one for £77! The PJ-5 is great can't get over the quality of the build for Price! the finish is nice and all the controls feel good (if a little cheap in places) the neck is nice and straight with no sharp fret edges and iv managed to get the action as low as I like with ease. It's easily as good as the squire basses iv had aswell as a couple of other budget basses that cost twice as much.the tone is nice you can get a nice P sound from the neck pup and a pretty good jazz sound from the bridge one, the overall output is a little low but i will probably be upgrading them any pay! (I find it hard to leave basses alone!) Iv never actually picked up a 5ver before so I can comment on how tight the Bstring is, but for me it's great, spent at least 2 hours messing about with my new low frequencies and will be picking it up again once ive finished this! Overall these Harley Benton bargins have amazed me!
  15. I wrap little but of electrical tape around the pot shaft, that makes the knobs squeeze on a bit tighter, usually solves the problem and you can get them off with a bit more of a pull in the future
  16. +1 on the thomann Ubass, had one for about a month and it's awesome!
  17. iv got a Schector diamond jazz California custom i bought from the basschat classifieds, its the best jazz iv played for the price and has a more modern tone which i personally love!
  18. iv had one of these as my main bass for 7 years, its a beast and i love it! still looks in great shape after countless gigs, it takes one hell of a bash to damage that finish! (i also got rid of the cheesy metal plate scratch and went for a clear one, looks sweeeeet)
  19. I just had one if these come through the other day, it does come with Aquila strings I believe. I haven't been able to put it down since it came (along with a deko 4 string acoustic) I think it sound pretty darn good some where between an upright and an acoustic bass, it's a little bit quiet through an amp but does sound good! I got mine B-stock for £77.
  20. Iv been using Beyer Dynamic DT150's and a pair of AKG K240 Mk1 (Gold colourings, try and avoid the 240mkII there not as good) for years (think you can get them for around £120 each), the DT150s seem to have a very flat response so can i always tell whats going off in the mix and the AKG240's are good for checking overall if whats been done is sounding good in a decent set of cans. but to each there own, i knew a guy who only used iphone headphones as "thats what everyone uses these days anyway!"
  21. cheers guys, i got some laser printer decal paper, 10 sheets for £5 so decals galore! now the hard part of thinking of a good looking logo or a name or something!
  22. that looks a beast! if only i had the money and the talent to play 5er!
  23. Cheers guys, quite like the idea if printing my own!
  24. Iv been buying cheap guitars, basses and parts off ebay and gumtree, stripping them down and refinishing and upgrading, so far iv built a nice black with maple neck/board P bass, a strat guitar, fretless P and have just started a sunburst jazz. i was wondering if anyone knew of a place to get some good quality custom waterslide decals (undecided on what there going to say yet!) and some custom waterslide serials (looking to have my initials plus the date of the guitars completion) iv seen some on eBay but am a bit dubious on the quality! I'm not going to be selling these or anything their purely for me but i do like things to look professional and have little bit of 'polish' to them!
