Any progress on venues for this bash ?? T
Nothing forthcoming here right now - I don't know Cambridge well enough..err.. barely at all to be honest!
I could do with a tuner pedal and a compressor, but need it to be a one box solution. Can anyone recommend a multi FX pedal that does these two functions well?
Throw the cat amongsth the pigeons - How about changing your amp head for a TC RH450? Tuner, multiband compressor, programmeable AND an amp head all in one box - ok - so it's an expensive way to do it!

It depends on what I have played before it and and where I need to go after!

I have always truly believed that when it comes to trying to communicate or express a feeling through my chosen instrument, it should be as fluid as conversation itself - and that is what I strive toward. Hell - I have a long way to go but to build up a musical vocabulary that flows from the speakers like speech itself is like nirvana for me I reckon. And what is day to day conversation? It's closer to improvisation than reading off the page for sure! So for me, improvisation is very important. You can still stick rigidly to the framework of a song in much the same way that a bunch of people will talk about a certain football manager or whatever - you'd look a bit stupid going off on a tangent about hatstands and hyperthirculators - but my point is - freely improv' in context. I feel that if you never improvised - how would you ever come up with new ideas? It's jamming that can help gel musicians together and 'bond' musically too. my thrupenny-bit
Ahh man! How did I miss something so simple? I've never even heard of the voltage change or whatever. Oh well, I guess we learn from our mistakes. I'll be hearing from my local luthier tomorrow, hopefully it shouldn't be too much to fix. Thanks for all your help!
You wouldn't happen to have bought the BC-1 that was advertised on TalkBass would you?

Head for a Barefaced Super Twelve T - Which one?
Dood replied to ajerthebadger's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hartke LH500 or LH1000
Yup - Listening to S1mon's recordings, I really like the tone of the LH with the Barefaced cabs. Infact, Alex himslef has recommended the LH1000 as a great sounding and financially viable option for powering his cabinets. I'm very pleased with my LH1000. -
I really can't understand why it hasn't worked Cetera! - I've most defintely had it working for a long time in my own rigs. As I say, the last two contenders have been the MXR M80 with a parallel out and also the Sansamp ParaDriver, which is the pedal version of the RPM. What were you finding not working about it?
Saga? Have a missed a saga? What's a Pearce anyway? Sorry to hear it's died.
Made famous by the likes of Billy Sheehan as a cracking 'distortion' preamp. There's a guitar version too. The BC-1 had a Sheehan mod for extra gain - and I think he still uses them now.
I assume it was set up for UK voltage and not U.S..just a guess here, as well.
My immediate thought.
My query isn't about cabs but it is something to do with being on the wiki: in the strings section, it lists Roto Jazz 77 flats as having a very high tension and doesn't mention the tension (!!) of the La Bella JJ (Original 54) flats. My recent experience (I went straight from the 77's to the JJ's) show the reverse to be true. The Rotos were fine, the JJ's are stupidly high tension. Am I missing something?
Maybe it's time for people to get more involved with the wiki and have some updates! -I'm not familiar with any kind of flatwounds so unfortunately can't comment.

Hey Steve - I know it's really boring - but the manual is your saviour! - You can run the X3 in so many different configurations, including running in to a power amplifier, a mixing desk, a recording console, a combo amp - or even splitting so half of it is used as a microphone channel for a singer and the other half for a bass / guitar player. Depending on which you chose could require some tweaking in the config menus to get things on the way to sounding right. I think that's usually the point that people get bored and give up with the X3 lols! But please stick with it - they eally aren't as bad as some make out. I really like mine! I've run mine straight in to a power amp and cab and can confirm it's fine!

If you have a RBI and an RPM - why not just take a line out from the Parallel/uneffected output? I've been using this method for - well as long as I have owned my M80 (and did the same with the various Sansamps I have owned) so Bass --> Sansamp RBI (high end grind) --> Channel A of Peavey DPC1400 Amp --> 1st Genz Benz Neox 2x12 Parallel output --> Sansamp RPM (clean low end) --> Channel B of Peavey DPC1400 Amp --> 2nd Genz Benz Neox 2x12 Also - Page 7 of the RPM manual tells you how to chain both together in parallel or Bi-Amp mode, which will achieve exactly what you need without a splitter box
Ive not been around for quite a while so thought it a good idea to say hello again. I sold up a couple of years ago and regretted it ever since. I sold my Aguilar/Epi rig and my DJ4, BIG mistake. Im now going to be starting up again so thought it a good idea to get myself back on here. I will be posting a wanted thread and browsing the for sale forums. Basically Im looking for a 4 string for around £400 and a giggable combo for around £500.
HEY!!!!! Welcome back dude!
Does this mean we have to take my SVT in the car Dan? Did i mention that I have an SVT An SVT! yes, an SVT. SVT. Yes. SVT.
I have a car, not a bus lol! Dood's stack will need to fit in too! - Actually - I reckon both will - if we're careful! hang on - you did say SVT - nahhhh... we're deluded as bass players - no SVTs in the Bass Bash lol lol lol
I'm almost certain Billy isn't smug (don't shatter my dreams haah!) haha Nice Dood xD I read it a while ago though i may be remembering wrong, but that ampeg worked with Him to tweak the Pro 4 much like the EBMM Bongo and John Myung, well the 6 string at least! And stop saying Hartke, i feel some GAS bubbling, especcially as i just settled on a GK rig and i'm hoping to buy another bass! And thats why Basschat is so good great mods!
Ha ha ha - no. no, Billy is quite the opposite. I've met him a couple of times and he's good friends with my drummer over in L.A. Very humble chap, many will say. Cool, well It's always possible there was more to the SVT4! I'd love to read more about Billy's involvement in gear design - I'm a geek at heart! (key) lol - see what I did there... tee hee! Ok, I won't say it anymore ! lol
Need some advice on replacement p/ups for a Steinberger xz-2 headless bass which I recently swapped for a 5 string Warwick Corvette. There are a number of benefits for the Steinberger but one of them is NOT the EMG p/ups which are decidedly rubbish. Any suggestions for easy replacements - preferably an active set up?
IIRC the EMG pups in there are passive select models or similar. I'd certainly recommend upgrading to an active EMG system - certainly from the point of view that the pickup cases will be the same size and you won't have to cut any ugly holes in your bass! I've been using EMG pickups and preamps for ..well.. myst be more than ten years and I really rate them. Your other options may well be having to rout out the cut outs for the pups - which will then open you up to pretty much anything out there! Nordstrand, Aero, Delano (v.nice!!), Bartolini, Kent Armstrong, Seymour Duncan... as for preamps - you have more options there too - be it an Aguilar OPB-3 - or custom circuits from the likes of Jon Shuker and preamp guru John East who makes some seriously customisable onboard preamps.

Preamp and Power Amp VS Bass Head VS Everthing Else
Dood replied to michael-faces's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks, I'm using the programmable DI so I assume the XLR out is designed for running into a PA while the 1/4 output can drive a regular amp front end. I'm not very in the know about power amps but I assume Matamp, Peavey and Mackie would be good choices.
You could actually use either output in to the power amp - but yes, if you are sending to a power amp - use the normal 1/4" out set to 'line'. Yes, any of those power amps are good - also Yamaha, QSC, Crown - there's quite a few. If you see one you like the look of, then ask here - or PM me if you need any help - We'll need to know what cabinets you are likely to run it in to as well - as that could help the decision due to configuration options. -
dan... I think we need to A/B the SVT and the LH1000. Just for shits and giggles. Plus it gives an opportunity for us to eat biscuits.
Yes, plus one million! - If you give me a few days I'll have something else to bring to the table as well ) Would be fun to hear the LH through your brutal SVT 6x10!!

Just reminded me! Audio Technika used to do a wireless system that had a button you could mount on your bass connected to the transmitter. You'd then be able to switch channels on say an amp by connecting to a socket on the receiver. I have no idea if they still have a similar system these days - but wireless switching, it's something to think about for sure.
