1. Quick question - have you tried altering the levels in the loop block to boost the output a bit? I agree that using models that are bass heavy will mean that any effect with 'top' on it can get lost because you are effectively attenuating the high end. Also try moving the effects loop block 'post' amp simulation verses 'pre' to see if that helps. Your other option is to run the X3 with both signal paths active. Set signal path one as your deep tone described, then set up a more full range patch on signal path two - then assign the effects loop to signal path two, not the bassy signal path one. Use the X3 configuration to mix the two path together and send to your power amp. This is kinda how Billy Sheehan sets up his seperate amps. One for 'super deep low' the other for the top end, effects and distortion. You'll have control over switching the loop in and out via patches and not have to buy additional outboard. I personally wouldn't recommend running other pedals in parallel with the X3 - it's processing delay mixed with an external dry path will result in phasing of the two signal that *can* sound odd. Just a very quick post - if it doesn't make sense I'll expand on it more later!
2. Well, I was thinking about this one and all the big names I could put down, but the first person I thought of that I'd like to work with is Craig Blundell. An awesome UK session drummer / Roland endorsee who plays with the awesome band Frost*! I met him via a Roland clinic as ma friend & fellow band mate Thomas is also a Roland endorser. Anyway, whilst I'm at it - This is the kinda drummer I like to work with - This is a good mate of mine Carl Cole that I've been working with. I got much to thank him for, so here's a plug of a band he is in, FRAMES:FIRE The point of the post isn't cheap advertsing though - just to add insult to injury as an awesome player - he plays keyboards and drums at the same time! This is completely live an no overdubs!
3. There's a good description of JC's pedal board here: The Youtube channel user goes on to demo some sounds http://www.youtube.com/user/smninerniner For a general place to start for JC stuff I think is a Sansamp GT2 and a Chorus/Flange pedal and a delay pedal for some parts. There's a GT2 for sale in the effects forum - I almost grabbed it maself!
4. Sorry, I misread your opening post - you asked for a pedal.. but hey, this is small
5. If you can find or happen to see an Alesis DEQ 224, two channel 30 band EQ in a half rack size. http://www.alesis.com/deq224 They'll probably be cheap as chips as they have been discontinued. I had one, sold it then after posting a 'wanted' message here on BC ended up buying mine back from the guy I sold it to. It's brilliant - it's also programmable, which means that no one ever knocks your settings or fiddles with the sliders. ( You don't need to be a physicist to operate it either, dead easy!)
6.
I don't understand. Have I done something to offend in my original post?
Nawww, bless ya - not at all - it's probably more that most of the bcers that have looked at the post didn't know and thus came and left the thread. I'm a gear geek and even I can't give you a decisive price off the top of my head. I'd go search ebay for finished auctions to see what each item went for - but my gut feeling would be that a generic rack EQ such as an Alesis or Roland would probably go for 30-50 - the DOD I assume is in the same ball park. The LA compressor I'd expect to have been around 150 new? maybe more - so 75-100 depending on condition. I'm not too hot on Space Echo units, but there's a few coming up on eBay via google - having just typed it in. Sorry I can't be more help! Dooooood
7. Some lil Shuker vids . I've posted them elsewhere - but thought I'd plonk them on the Shuker thread too! My Shuker 7 string tuned to F#. I really like the two hand tapped bass line in this - it just rolls! My band 'Real' released an album and this was a track off it. LickLibrary.com intro video... This track, again from the album... bit of sweep tapping and other 'tasteful nonsense'!! Finally, this was recorded in 2007 and I never got round to rerecording it! It's my own mashup of Steve Vai's 'Bullwhip' and Dream Theater's 'Metropolis'
8. Which reminds me, I was gonna post a pic, but didn't get round to it! I will though!

Soliloquy

Thank you Kevin, for a pleasant buying experience! Very happy with my hifi cabinet on steroids thank you very much!
10. I had a red one! The GTBD-7 is a great upgrade from the standard Groove Tools 7er - They're cracking basses!
11. Seriously, £650 is a giveaway price for a Shuker bass. Make no mistake peeps - Jon is a master and not to be sniffed at because he doesn't have a workshop in London, California, Brooklyn.. etc
12.
Yeah I keep meaning to do that .
Yep, that's the cab
13.
Won't you get a better sound out of the kettle by using a good instrument cable?
Hmmm, enough people use 'kettle leads'* to provide power for their amplification! Maybe there's something in that! It actually bugs me when people call them kettle leads! Yes a kettle lead will fit in to a computer or and amp', but an IEC lead specifically for a computer for example, won't actually fit in to a kettle socket. The kettle socket is a slightly different shape and requires a slotted connector! Don't believe me? 'av a look! [edit] ere's the techy bit! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_connector
14. I nearly did actually Charic! I wanted to be able to get my basic signal path in to one box (well in theory at least) but I couldn't find out if it could handle dual signal paths - I gave up and when back to my hardware!
15. Are you looking for a Rack or a unit to go on the floor?
16.
What can I say, I am knew at this, but I thought the penultimte paragraph refered to instrument cable use:
There's no way I'd put 10 amps through an instrument cable, the same as I wouldn't use a desklamp cable plugged in to a kettle!
17. If you open up the jack plug (if you can) You should be able to tell the difference between an instrument cable and a speaker cable. You'll see in the top picture, the ground connection acts as a shield as it is wrapped around the centre cable. This is great for helping to keep noise at bay. However, should you ram a good few hundred watts down the cable and there is a fault, the centre core shield could melt and short circuit the amp connected to it, thus unleasing said 'magic smoke'. Instrument cable: Although this picture below isn't great, you can see two separate cores with their own insulation, thus giving a far greater protection against shorting. The actual core of each wire in a decent speaker cable will be much much thicker (heavier gauge) too and this can carry a greater current. To give an example of what each cable has to contend with, guitar signals are usually in the milliampere range (mA) whereas the output of an amplifier is 100x greater in the range of Amperes! Speaker cable I know which I would connect to my beloved bass amplifiers! - Infact - the speaker cables I use are massive! 2x4mm oh and yes, of course - from OBBM!
18.
MB1. Never had any Problems with these guys! had several covers made! A1 Excellent covers and Top Notch customer Service! Post your rack!!
Is that a status 6 string fretless? Do you still have it? I love that. I think I bought my little rack off you dude, but that's for studio gear, not a bass rig
It is a Status yes - an Energy 6 - I'm afraid I don't have it - I sold it here on Basschat a while ago! As far as I know, it's still being loved somewhere! Oh was that the rack with the blue light in the back? It's funny you should mention that - as I may be after a shallow 4u rack before too long (I think that one was a standard rack though.)
21. Mike (URB) uses a similar method to me, but instead of using separate software for my video - I use Reaper, which is a DAW - but you can get a free video plug in for it too. This means, I record my audio in Reaper as usual, but set my webcam's software to record a high quality video (HD compliant) at the same time. Once I have finished, I can import the video straight in to Reaper - sync it up (takes about 5 seconds) - do a new mix (which can include the webcam's mic output too) then export to Youtube's favourite file type. - It's worth playing with the settings to get the highest quality video online. I've got a few simple videos up on my YouTube page in my signature http://www.youtube.com/DoodOnBass
22. This isn't the first time that Silversone have been upsetting customers. There's another thread on the forum with some stories of woe on it. Sorry to hear of your woes, I hope that you get your money back!
23.
That's what drummers are for isn't it?
Nooo - it's the reason they left the handles off! To stop drummers from gnawing on them when you're not looking. Like flippin' goats!
24. More love for Hartke right here. I have a pair of 410's too!
25. Ok, Paul is sorted out, ignore my previous message!
