1. You'll be pleased to hear that the Commando has more than a passing resemblance to the sought after V-type combos! Without being too geeky about the whole thing (please, grab a pillow if you feel your eyelids getting heavy!!) The preamp section of the Commando amp really is a FET (transistor) equivalent of the v-type valve preamp. Same passive tone stack and gain stage layout. I'm not sure about the power amp section, but I think that Trace pretty much uses the same type(s) of design across the range. I had a V-Type pre for a while, it was ace!
2. I don't think my fave female Bass Player actually plays Bass anymore. As a musician, she was awesome - brilliant playing and singing voice too. Though if we're going on looks alone - yeah, very attractive, pretty lady!
3. On a budget, you could look at the Line6 UX8 which not only records 8 tracks separately as requested, you essentially get a POD X3 and a whole host of other functions thrown in to boot. Makes great sense especially when it comes to 're-amping' from a dry signal later on if you weren't happy with any of the recorded sounds.
4. I'll no doubt be there again this year with Shuker, Rotosound and Hartke - I will also, like last year be one of the only people refraining from 'slappage'.. ha!
5. Captain Sensible once described me as 'flamboyant'!

Hi Monckman, There's been a few threads about the unit with some reviews in: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=Search...hlite=%2Bsonuus
8. I recommend issue 67 ;o)
9. Hmmm... interesting - See what Carvin are bringing to the table in D Class world! http://www.carvinworld.com/bassamps/bassheads.php

Very nice! - Though I'm having slight problems believing the two lil dudes hanging off the end of the PCB are capable of churning out 500W - 250W RMS I can believe. That said, I'd like to see some more info' on the kit though,
11. Right, I've changed my mind and realised what I want! I really like my Ampeg BSP-SVP preamp. It'd be great to shoe horn that in to the box somehow!
12.
Alembic F2B (twin channel fender/RCA preamp from the radiogram days) with a 300w class D power amp and a transformer DI in a small box. My Euphonic Micro is very close to this...but the preamp isn't quite as nice and the DI is a balanced stereo jack. Ever seen a grumpy/confused sound engineer? This feature virtually guarantees you will meet one.
Funny you should suggest that design actually - as my idea of a D Class amp is pretty much the same. I'd use the Hartke LH preamp (which is very similar to the Alembic / Trace / Fender / etc etc etc designs) - but I'd run it in to two 500W power amps that can be bridged or run in stereo or parallel mono to cover all eventualities. I'd want the whole lot in a 1u rack case with a stereo DI, true bypass graphic and a bypass-able Thumpinator by SFX (Max). I might also be happy to include a compressor, but it'd have to be a triple band type such as the TC Electronics Nova Dynamics. Hmm.. maybe a parametric EQ instead.. and a purple LED. no, three! Oh wait I've changed my mind.. I want.... A SHWUBBERWEE!!!
13.
I’m seriously keen on MIJ Jazz Bass Specials. As you can see from my signature list below I have both a Jazz Bass Special and a Power Jazz Bass Special – they are great instruments - and I have been led to understand that these were the very models that Duff McKagan always favoured ? . . . . but I could be wrong ?
Yup, t'is true - though I keep reading on the internet that some suggest the basses are 'custom' - but Duff has said his are Jazz Bass Specials in interview. They indeed have a Jazz neck and were made in Japan. I remember reading somewhere (Could well have been the original magazine excerpt I still have from 1989) that the neck profile is based on a '62 Jazz neck. They are bloody good though! I have a PJBS in red - there's a PJBS in Ozzy Ozbourne's 'No More Tears' video too - I remember seeing a Simple Minds track on TV once and yet another JBS PJBS 'ere too, courtesy of Simple Minds in 1988 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_yMylg8Dc0
14.
I thought it was funny, and if Michael is the good bloke you all say he is I'm sure he'll take it in the spirit that it was intended - a joke.
I'm afraid the comments were not taken as a joke. I also agree with MichaelG.
15. LowHeadRegister has accepted that his comments were, and I quote 'a tad acerbic' and has deleted all of his other posts from the thread leaving only the quoted. I will therefore tidy up this thread and put this sorry mess to bed. Got away without a warning
16. Thank you to whoever bought this beauty of a guitar. I have no need for a Strat, but OMG I was close to buying it! Very nice guitars - and I think the black PG made it spesh!
17. Ladies and Gentlemen, Firstly thank you for making full use of this forum, it's great to see adverts being posted and responded to often. Making sure your new adverts are kept up to date, detailed and responded to helps both yourselves and any musicians interested in getting involved with your bands/projects etc. There have unfortunately been a few cases of responses from forum users that have either been contentious, pointless and in some cases offensive. May I remind anyone who is thinking about posting in such a tone that we are all musicians here and have all at some point needed to advertise and ask for help in finding fellow musicians to work with. I find it disheartening to see that some think it witty to poke fun at or undermine those advertising. BassChat operates a warning system that can result in having posting ability removed, temporary bans or removal from the forum completely. Not surprisingly, repeated offensive posting is a quick way to achieve such. Please, if you have any reason to think that a new posting or response is contrary to the community spirit on the forum, use the 'Report' button on the bottom left of the offending post, or PM myself or any of the other moderators and we will intervene. Be helpful to your fellow musicians - and if you have nothing of value to add to the thread, then maybe it's best not to include it!
18. LowRegisterHead, there is nothing to stop a band requiring a triangle player advertising on here. Yes, it IS a Bass forum and no, they are less likely to find the musician they require here than somewhere else. So why are you giving them a hard time? I commend MichaelG for not rising to your to your offensive tone towards the band. Maybe it's best to not say anything if you don't have anything useful to add? PM'ing...
19. I guess it's because it's really heavy! - I guess you could make a nice top slice for a guitar though?
20.
Does Nigel Clutterbuck actually have a real gig, or does he solely exist to annoy people at trade fairs?
Works at Rotosound as a salesman, but no idea if he's got a regular gig actually..
21.
Sounds like the bass equivalent of 'drummer at the wrong gig'
But Steve (D.A.T.W.G) Moore didn't drop a single beat despite all those crazy antics. The guy is a ledge! ;o)
22. When I read 'router' in your title I was a bit confused - being as that is the more conventional name for that there lil box (containing the modem) that connects your computer to a broadband phoneline. That'll be the 'transmitter' you are attaching to your strap. ;o) Anyway - there are one or two companies out there that actually make straps with a holster for wireless systems - I'm afraid I can't remember the names, but they are definitely out there. I used to use a plain sports sock with the top cut off then sewn round to form a stretchy tube which worked very well - you could also use a couple of those really wide sweat bands over the strap to slip the transmitter under?
23. I'm afraid I can't help! My Headless gets pride of place on a standard A frame stand on the floor - everything else is up on the wall.
24. First of all, what valves are in the preamp? If they include the usual quartet of Sovtek valves - or indeed any that have seen better days, then purchasing some low noise & drive tested valves will be a great benefit. (The Sovteks are just stock valves and I'm yet to find a set that I like the feel or sound of) Yes, dropping in a quality 5751 in the output section will help to reduce noise, but obviously you are also limiting the amount of output swing you can get to drive you poweramp with. Having a word with HotRox or Watford Valves will give you an idea what is available. My favourites for the SVP and well.. pretty much any valve pre actually are the Harma Diamond STR 12AX7 or the premium JJ ECC83S (Which is exactly the same valve) and Philips ECG 12AU7 for the other position. I've only ever owned one 5751, a GE with a ridiculously long title: GE "JG5751 Triple Mica Black Plates" - but it is described as built like the proverbial out house and certainly has the least amount of hiss or nose of all the valves I have put in the same pre position. Ok, rambling over heh heh!
