2.
Made by Harper, I got it a few years ago as a birthday present and now I've moved out I have no room for it! only really used it to jam when camping a few times, it's had no gigs or anything! Just been a bit scratched in places. Plays nicely and had a new pickup installed soon after I got it. It's going to basschat for £275 + postage or collection from SE or central London, Eastbourne or maybe Southampton! Fleabay link (with pictures and more info) and yes, that's right. it comes with a FREE hard case! FREE!
Funnily, I spotted this on eBay and although looking for a 5 string acoustic, I dismissed it as I've never heard of Harper. I'd certainly be interested in hearing more about it though.
3.
I miss my Low B2s. What's different in the series 2?
I believe one of the main improvements was to use 'self resetting fuses' for the midrange and tweeters instead of the 'light bulbs' that had to be replaced every time they blew. Not a nice job having to unscrew the grill, then remove a speaker, then get to the crossover..etc etc.. I believe the rest were cosmetic upgrades and making the total weight less too. I'd have to go take a look at the information on the website again for anything else! oh wait - I just thought of something! - The banana sockets and 1/4" jack sockets have been replaced with a pair of the far stronger Speakon (+ 1/4") combo sockets.
4.
Where is Predator Country?
Hi TomTom, I'm in Norwich - sorry! Totally forgot to put that on the advert!
5. Thanks Funkle!! Yes, it certainly speaks with low end authority!! ;o)
6. Whoops! Sorry, yes it has I'm afraid!
7. Pic of the sum total of any damage, other than the odd litle scuffs to be expected on the 'feet' where the cab has say down on hard surfaces at workshops etc. Sorry the pics are on their side!
8. Yup ok! Sorry, I've been workin away today and am currently reimaging my laptop hard drive. I can in the meantime email some pics over before I upload to the thread. I'll do my best to show any marks etc.
9. Oh poop! I was too slow!
10.
Over the past couple of months, I have hardly played bass at home, but I play guitar every day. And when I go to rehearsals as a bassist and play songs we know, and work on new songs, I am a much better bassist. I am more fluid, more imaginative, more dynamic, more expressive and more comfortable. I am also playing more with a pick and right hand damping more. Along with the volume pedal which has become a large part of my natural style, I am really feeling it now, not just mechanical. I am a much better player through not playing at home. Not that I am advocating this approach you understand. I am finally happy not being a reader, I got fed up of feeling guilty about it and shed that stupid burden. I am a happy bassist (for a f***ing change ).
Hi Nigel! Ahhh I totally have to agree with the advantages of playing Guitar as well as Bass. I've always played Guitar and a very little Keys too, but after many years of tinkering with drum kits I finally have a lil kit of my own. I've been watching Bob Gatzen and Jo Jo Mayer DVDs, learning all the really geeky stuff like different stick grips too. I've found that my playingbhas taken yet another step up and not only am I enjoying playing a bit of drums, bass has taken yet another new lease of life too. That's great because I've notched up about 22 years playing now and I'm still in love with the damn thing!!!
11. Did I really only buy the thing in January? Lol! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=Soliloquy Hmmm, maybe I should keep it a bit longer!
12. As always a pleasure to do business with. Great comms and a smooth transaction! Cheers Joe! Doooooooooood
13. P.s. Lovely looking bass there!
14.
I had a 6 string version of this, great sound from the EMG pickups - very modern sounding. Price is bang on .
Do you recall if that was a 16mm string spacing my matey?
15. It's all change in gear land .. But not big rig stuff, just changing out some of my teaching and workshop gear. I bought my Acme B2 from 'Soliloquy' who imported the cabinet brand new, owned it about 3 months and as I understand it, wanted two B1's instead, so sold it in it's brand new state to me. I'll post some pictures of my B2. I haven't used it for gigs as I always use my Hartke rig, but I have taken the cab to the odd rehearsal (quiet sessions) and has been used at home for teaching. Have a look at www.acmebass.com for full details. This example is the version 2 in 8 ohms with carpet covering. There's the odd mark and small scuff on the outer plastic work, but absolutely does not affect sound or operation. I am asking £350 plus shipping (or pickup) which is a marked saving on the cost of importing/taxes/duties/shipping from US.
16. James, are you up for shipping this one? I'd love to see some pics as I'm thinking of selling up my Acme B2.
17. You're definitely missing off the TC Electronic Nova Dynamics from your list!! It's feature rich and cheaper than some of the pedals in your list, yet features both full range and multi band compression (3 vs EBS's 2) and noise gates too. The pedal can also be used in full stereo for studio applications OR configured so that two different basses can be plugged in and have their own separate settings. It's a transparent compressor that does exactly what you want without adding it's own colour.
18. Ahhh, wait a sec! I think I know! The older models didn't and the newer ones do!
19. The JamMan doesn't? Are you sure? Both my Boss and JamMan do quantize. Just wondering..
20.
Would be better if you posted feedback in Si's feedback thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=0353203
I've merged the two separate threads together now.
21. Wow! Very nice! I find myself wanting to get a colour change on mine! That White PJBS looks great! I must admit, I'm leaning towards getting Dimarzio picks for mine as an upgrade.. Not sure why as the Quarter Pounders appear to be the more usual upgrade! - I had a Dimarzio P pickup in a precision I had years ago and it was great - I also like the Sound of the 'Will Power' P pickup by the same company. I guess I need to hear a PJBS with either sets in to get an idea what they are capable of.
22. I've just downgraded from the rather cool Digitech Stereo JamMan. I wanted a single pedal that I could chuck in my gig bag instead and have just bought the Boss RC3. I'd say that the JamMan, having more buttons and functionality would make it better for live annnnnnd you can connect further footswitches to the pedal for it's other operations. I think if I were to use the rc3 for live looping too, I'd grab the 2 pedal footswitch to cut down on on stage tap dancing. For other loopers, take a look at Electroharmonix, Akai, Eventide and for the daddy of loopers, Looperlative.
23.
Is there a way to really measure output at varying volume settings, if so , then one of the magazines should surely set up a test when reviewing and give some sort of rating or benchmark, which at least would allow you to compare across the board with a level benchmark As I said before whatever amp I use I always seem to end up with the dial in the same place anyhow
I think that was the original idea behind Bass Gear Magazine's reviews. They 'go to town' on kit, lifting the lid to look for quality workmanship and at the same time to test manufacturer's technical figures and specifications to see if they agree. I've not read the TB thread but my personal thoughts is that I take a very dim view of any company that tries to pull the wool over the consumer's eyes. Conversely I am pleased when I see an amp exceeding it's rated specs, such as a certain reasonably priced amplifier that in tests chucked out 1100W RMS :0)
24.
yes that did strike me as a little strange, Maybe someone 'in the know' can give us the insider gen ? Someone like Dood might well know (hint?)
Hey Daz! Well - unbelievable as it might be - no, I actually have no leads on this year's show! - That said, I've been pretty damn busy these last few months and hadn't gotten as far as planning my BassDay. I've got some amazing news to spill soon which will hopefully be great for us Bass Players - sorry I can't say anything yet! If I remember to, I'll see if I can find out what's happening this year! Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood
