[/quote] I think my review video is also on YouTube now but as a 2x10 it's a nice lil cabinet. It is designed to have a different sonic signature to the Big Baby for example so it'd be wise to hear them both to see what suits better. For me, I was 'had at Big Twin II'!

Chiming in to offer my endorsement - I recently had the pleasure of reviewing the Big Twin 2 and Retro Two Ten cabinets. I had the cabinets for a while to give them a good work out and I have to say the experience was a pleasurable one. I now own the very cabinet I reviewed and it has already gotten much use as my 'reference cabinet' for other reviews as well as of course backline for my band(s). Big articulate and very clean, I love how the cabinet shows up differences between different amplifiers and character of my selection of basses just like my studio monitors. At a snip over 20Kg and the ability to fill the stage with big, even sound - well, that means a lot to me. I'd love to get a pair of FR's to use for workshops, gigs and anything needing PA but for now the BT2 is coming with me everywhere! Interestingly, I've just received a nice old P bass. I plugged it in to this cabinet for the first time this morning. oh my oh my!!! Ash and Maple, what a lovely sound! Just like to say thanks to Alex. The Big Twin II is a bit 'spesh!

Hi! I seem to remember reading posts from users that suggested that the 'tube' didn't seem to make a massive amount of difference to the tone of the amplifier. I've not compared the two myself but with or without, the LM heads have a great clean sound with plenty of bottom end boost.

It's a really bright sunny day today. I think the light is permeating through the flip paint layer making the bass look really pinky in the garden. In doors the finish is more like a metallic lake placid blue! I'll try to get that as a picture later.

Anyone remember 'Minky' basses from way back? They had some really cool hand 'etched' finishes that were coloured and stained to look like different types of stone. I thought it was kinda cool, but I've no idea where they are now!

[/quote] I would suggest a tweeter that reaches downward to overlap the top end of the 12" driver rather than heading toward the stratosphere. A filter network can then be customised to better cross those points rather than a generic tweeter not being able to meet the 12" high output leaving a weird gap.

Ah yes! The manual was actually helpful showing the icon on the back of your amp. You'll be pleased to hear that any two button latching footswitch with a stereo jack plug on the end will suffice! I used to use a massive all valve 300W head that sounded amazing but weighed what seemed like a ton at 3am in the morning. I'd still like to own it, but you know, my back also says no!!

[/quote] There certainly are similarities with some cabinets I have used or reviewed in the past but it'd be an unfair comparison at this stage. Also, the cabinet I took with me to the studio of my own to run up my 'usual rig' would be an unfair comparison. What I will say though and I appreciate what the point of this project in the first place is so possible outside the remit; If you are looking for a clear 'non-vintage' tone then I think the cabinet will need a midrange driver or a super-tweeter. If you are thinking of using lots of grit and want to make use of the speaker's natural roll off to soften the filth tone as not to sound brittle then this could work out pretty well! For me personally, I wouldn't apply cab sims (think Kemper / AxeFX / POSITIVE GRID) as the cabinet has a flavour of it's own that may give you unacceptable results - read as 'mushy'. Using distortion pedals and amplifier sims though I think this cabinet could do really well - especially in multiples stacked. Almost taking things from a guitarist view point who prefers to use his valve amp and cabinet configuration to create smooth distortion.
