MS60b buzz

There isn't an input level control on the MS unfortunately and yes, it does sound like you are driving the input with a bit too much level maybe - but that said, it'd be good to get a recording of the buzz if you can - it's easier to diagnose that way. I also agree with dannybuoy too but also, the distortion could also be happening if you have several effects active in a chain and their own levels are way too high, which will also cause some ugly digital distortion, not the nice analogue sort.
  2. Great pictures BlueJay! With ref' to BassAgent's comment, I started to wonder how many BassChatters I didn't know were at the show. What if we had a thread with pictures of BC attendees?
  3. One day I'll try one of these out - still on my radar!
  4.
I'm confident I could make it sound like a one-trick pony
5.
I hope it doesn't sound like a Thunderbird. I want it to have a Dingwall voice, whatever that is.
The DV mod still sounds like a '3X' on a Dingwall that's for sure, but the pickup configuration offers some extra breadth to the sound which I feel is rather exciting!
  6. Brilliant stuff BlueJay! You got my good side x

    EBS Sheehan Deluxe

I've had one waiting for me at the magazine studio for over a week now. I'm here, the pedal is there... nyargh!!!!!
  8.
I'm keen to try and emulate that Dug tone into twin cabinets...route a cleanish/phat signal into channel A and tinny guitarish dirt into channel B. Fun times ahead.
Ahhhh yes! I do the same, but mix the two signal before sending out to other effects, amp and cabinets. Phat bass + thin/low mids distortion makes for a huge punchy tone with just the right amount of dirt!
  9. I reviewed the GT1600 in GI Mag - it's a great amplifier!
  10.
Entirely correct in principle, however, many landlords would just laugh and not book the band if you produced such a contract. If they did sign and you took action after an unreasonable cancellation, you would likely lose bookings at other venues, when the landlord told them about it. All this at a time when gigs are few and far between.
Exactly - Which leads us back round the circle. If bands did care, every band would have a contract - then in the case of 'wrong doing' they would be quick to support each other and boycott the venue for being sh*tty and others venues who treated said bands the same way. It'd never happen though and that's why bands are still being paid exactly the same amount that they were when I first started, yet the cost of living alone has gone up greatly. It only cheeses me off because I hate seeing all this hard work and energy that my fellow musicians put in being screwed over. - Yes there are great venues out there and they deserve to thrive, but the whole live music culture is a mess and plenty of venues take advantage of that.
  11. Join the MU, print off contracts for gigs, get landlords to sign. They cancel at short notice, their loss, or you take them to the cleaners. Too many music venues think that bands play 'for fun' and treat them like crap. The reason why this won't work though, is that too many bands don't value themselves enough to protect their investment. So the circle continues. #GetPaid
  12.
Be useful if you can drive the valve for a bit of dirt. The LH preamps in ever used to let me do this.
The LH heads were never designed to distort just have masses of clean head room - actually something I preferred them for.
  13. Bought from Dan and a smooth transaction it was too! Great chatting and yes, the pedal is sounding great, thanks!
  14.
I'd get a Dean Edge. At the budget end, it's the best one. If Dood is talking about the Spector 8 string that they had at the recent bass show, I'd avoid. The neck profile is wrong as its just a thin C neck with 8 strings. At 1.65 inch at the nut your hand will bunch up. Lastly, the active eq I found to be lacking. Okay, it was only £400 or so, but it was still just a 4 string neck with 8 strings and more than a tad pants. I say that and I like Spectors. If you were really wanting a conversion, get the neck from warmoth and Schaller 471 bridge. Job done.
I'd disagree - I have massive hands and found that playability wasn't a problem, even though I have never played an 8 string in anger. I had more problems with my picking hand, none with my left. But hey, everyone is different and that's fine with me.
  15.
I didn't know Spector did an eight string. Looks pretty. Where's the review? Any idea of UK price/availability?
I've just completed the review video so it will be in a future issue of the magazine and a link will appear in my thread in my signature too. I'm not sure of the pricing off hand! I thought I had written it down. As for availability, the Spector Uk distributor is brilliant so I would expect the model to be available at the usual outlets.
  16. Hi - it is the MS50G guitar version yup (The bass version is MS60B)
  17.
http://www.eminence....eaker-break-in/
Cheers Bill
  18. As I understand it, when a speaker 'breaks in', it is the edge of the cone (the bit connected to the frame that flexes) essentially becoming less stiff and more pliable. This allows the cone to move more freely back and forth tracking the incoming signal. The results being as noticed.
  19.
Dood Did you ever do sound clips of you dingmod?
Yes, but I've no idea what I have done with them! - I can do some more, or I can pull up some of my review videos with the bass possibly! I'll have a look!
  20.
Think I'll order some and see what they're like . Will have to see if they can handle multiple tuning up and down throughout a set - some strings go dead quickly doing that . Cheers for that mate- I'll give 'em a go
Pulling them up to standard tuning, yes they will feel more taught than a standard set, yup that goes without saying
  21. Just reviewed Spector's Legend Classic 8 - that's a nice bass that should be on your shopping list!
  22. Last bump for this one before I pack it away.
  23. Well they are designed so that if you drop C (CGCF) they will still have a decent tension to feel like a standard tuned balanced set
