1. I think in 66 they were hand writing the dates, in the 70s the last three of the four digits were usually week and year, being 46th week of 1976......but I'm not sure when they went to the six digit codes......
2. Photos added type bump.. Aguilar preamp and Seymour Duncan pick up. Also comes with original modulus case.
3. Price Drop, £1900 my last Flea bass for sale / trade, I've kept this one until last as it was my favourite, however I can't stop my Fender Precision obsession. So I'm looking to either sell or trade this 2005 Modulus Flea bass in black with a pearloid stratchplate in good condition. I could trade for a cheaper Precision with cash my way, or I could put a little towards something, or a straight trade or sale, I'm pretty flexible. Photos to follow as I'm away at the moment
4. You do sell some very nice gear, I gigged with the Ampeg on Saturday and she was beautiful, plenty loud enough for an un miked drummer, never got above 2 o clock on the volume, I'm digging the 64 channel......
5. Played last night on a pretty dark stage and hit a couple of bum notes....couldn't see them damn fret markers at all. I think some luminous tape of some variety is going to have to be used!
6. Gigged with the Amoeg Heritage B-15 last night, it was a pub gig with a pretty loud drummer but the B--15 proved to be more than enough through either the 25 or 30 watt channel. Volume through either channel was on about 2 o'clock, so plenty to spare, I think this will be enough for a reasonably busy hall, but time will tell..!!
7.
Without sounding like a knob have you tried simply playing it more? I had a similar problem with my old grabber bass, it was made worse by the slightly different scale length to my other bass which at the time was a fender jazz. I didn't really want to modify it either. I found that by grinning and baring it for a while I got used to it. My muscle memory improved and after a couple of gigs on dark stages and a few extra hours of practice with it the problem faded.
I can get by, and I think in some ways it does you good not have to rely on them, but for those particularly dark places, something to reference would be good,..
8. Whilst I accept that being able to see the fret markers on my bass is not essential, and I could probably get by, the fret markers on my 64 precision have faded due to the oils from the wood seeping through them and I would feel more comfortable being able to refer to them a little easier on a dark stage, I have used the rosette dots which are pretty good for short term use but they start to come off after a couple of weeks of playing, I obviously don't want to be drilling into a 50 year old bass neck, what other options are there?
9. I'm glad I keep buying the wrong gear, it gives me an excuse to keep buying new stuff!
10. The full 30 watts of Ampeg get its first gig next Saturday, lets see how she gets on!
11. Got to agree with pow, after a few weeks of playing I'm finding these a bit too dark, particularly when gigging. I can see plenty of styles of music where these would be great but I've gone back to my TI flats, the problem I have with the TIs is that they are so low tension it's difficult to get enough relief even with the truss nut screwed right back, great sound and feel though, just a Bugger to get them set up just right!
12. Really....... Looks like a lot of money for a reissue to me........!,, http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=172207089617&globalID=EBAY-GB
13. The gotoh vintage reverse tuners are pretty good, I currently have them on my 64 precision and they just slotted straight in..
14. These are super great combos, the original Redhead although sounded great just lacked a little volume and "heft", not the though ...
15. Well that didn't last long, I'd just smashed open the daughters piggy bank and got to £3.22p in 2ps and 1ps, there were still lots of 5ps I that never got countered....
16. I put these on my 64 Precision, although the original tuners still work OK, there's plenty of give, and tuning with them can take a while. These slotted in perfectly, kept the old bushings in place and these slotted in no problems, very nice tuners indeed!
17. That's rather nice...
18. Of course a bass that has belonged to a celebrity is going to have premium price tag, just like a silk hanky that belonged to Elvis, or a dress that belonged to Priness Diana, etc etc, there's a whole industry selling this stuff and a bass guitar is no different, and it's worth is what someone is prepared to pay, if is worth that much someone somewhere will pay, if is not, they won't........
19.
Sad that this has turned into another Valves are great, SS is bad thread.
Got to say that I love both, but for entirely different reasons, I love solid state amps for their power to weight ratio, and clear sounds, and I love valve Amps for their creamy smooth lows...... I don't think one is better than the other, just different, it's like saying do I like bread a butter pudding or double sticky toffee pudding (with rivers of custard) , you just got to love them both...
20. Rehersal went well with the 30 watts of Ampeg, we're not the loudest band in the world, but the Ampeg more than held its own, didn't gig with it on Saturday as there was a real estate shortage and the markbass takes up a lot less space, next gig it gets a runout..
21.
For the test to be fair, you did of course have only 1x 12" speaker connected in the Ampeg cab then?
The first test I did was through the combos own speakers, I did again putting them both through a Mark bass NY121, and the results were much the same, the Mark bass was about 1db louder, which I think is about 10% First rehersal with it tomorrow night 🤔🤔
