1. my favourite track from that album, since the day it came out. I absolutely lovely the sax solo. That fingerstyle bass line has amazing tone. I think I remember Marcus saying in an interview contemporary to the release, that it was played on a detuned 4-string though. Might be wrong. Edit: I meant on the M2 album, can't play yt here and missed the "live" part of the post, apologies.
2. not sure right now, but for many years they were made by Mayones in their factory in Gdańsk, Poland. Fame is a house brand of the German online shop Music Store. Most guitars and basses are/were made by Mayones, some of them were also sold by Mayo in Poland under the brand Flame. Good quality instruments with nice woodwork and reliable hardware/electronics.
3. Is it a 3-piece neck? It does look so on one of the pics. Gorgeous bass, congratulations. I've had a GB94 (that's now called GB4 Custom) for a couple of years and it was extremely playable, everything was just effortless. I imagine this would more to my taste tonally though.
4. Awesome job, Silvia. It was great to meet you too (I'm the bloke named Marcin on your pic) I have tried to chat you up last year at Warwick booth already, but the noise made it impossible back then My impressions: the show felt smaller than last year, quieter too, believe me or not. My highlights: Shuffler's set. I follow those guys since the beginning, been to a few gigs, listen to the album often - great for commuting. Here's a few of my photos that I've taken on two different occasions. https://www.facebook.com/marcin.bass/media_set?set=a.10200887365324454.1073741826.1174473192&type=3 Forgive the quality, my camera is older than me and doesn't even have a (working) lighmeter, and the films are mostly out of date too... I only went to one masterclass, Lee Sklar's one. Brilliant. An opportunity to have a brief chat and a photo with him was great as well. Like many other guys, I enjoyed Yolanda Charles' sets with Rob Harris. Those two musicians are both seriously groovy, and I love the communication between them. When it comes to gear, I was very much looking forward to Anaconda Basses premiere. Andrew is a friend, I've been visiting him in his studio/workshop since he started, trying out most of the basses he made etc. The show was the first time I saw the J-type inspired basses, as well as 6-string fretted and fretless versions of his primary model Crusher. I am a Jazz Bass player, but the fretted 6 was my favourite, and although I was curious of the Js, I think the streamlined modern versatile beasts are what Andy is best at. I'll order one for sure. What I pretty much ordered already, was a Maruszczyk bass. I've been watching their clips on youtube for a while now, just to listen to Adrian play. He's such a great bassist. Now, it was the first time I saw his basses in person and WOW. We got along quickly, as we're both Polish (even though I spent half of my life living between the UK and Swiss Alps, and Adrian is in Germany since 1981), we have mutual friends, share some views on the sound and construction of the bass. My first serious bass was made by the very same luthiers who make basses for Maruszczyk now; it's a small family company working since - I think - the 80s in Polish moutains. I was in love with the extremely light (less than 3.5kg or 7lbs) 5-string 24-fret jazz that the guys brought and that will most probably be the base for my custom bass, but with different woods/pickups etc. I'll have to talk to Adrian a few more times and maybe make a trip to try some more basses in a quieter atmosphere. I enjoyed trying out stuff at Bass Gear, Bass Direct, Andy Baxter etc - there were moments when it was actually possible to get an idea of the sound and playability, and therefore to get a better idea of what I want in my future instruments. A big thank you to those sellers for bringing gear that's otherwise impossible to try. A Fodera is in my future too, and I wouldn't know that if it wasn't for this show. I hope there will be another one next year, hopefully bigger and with headphones on most stands!
5.
This is how our corner currently looks - tomorrow the t-shirts and sweaters will be moved a little out of the way and I'll put up my music stand with the BC poster.
Inviting! And the hoodies are tempting. I'll be there. I'm a long-haired bearded bespectacled troglodite, in case there's too much e-minor slapping to introduce oneself
6.
...I bumped into Guy Pratt outside the venue having a crafty fag last year. ...
seems like everyone who left the building at any time during the show, bumped into Guy Pratt having a fag outside
7. I'll be there full both days! Will spend a lot of time at the Anaconda Basses booth and don't want to miss Jens Ritter handing the mysterious bassist (my friend) his custom bass. Must shake Lee Sklar's hand, he's one of my favourite human beings. I will also try out most 6 string basses I'll find, I'm getting one built this year and have to do some research on neck profiles, spacings etc.
8. the longer video is up now. Unfortunately, the most obvious effect that can be heard is that the processed signal is much louder than the bypassed one. Sure, I hear some EQ too, but I'd rather hear the mid sweep etc with some sort of unity gain tweaked. As much as I like MXR (have had quite a few of their pedal, kept two and have another two on their way), I think they fished on the fact that for most people the louder signal will sound better. Again, I understand that boosting is one of the main jobs of a preamp pedal. Another complaint is that the Bass control is centred at 40Hz. Everybody seems to be doing that, I think it's too low. Still, I look forward to trying this thing, although I don't see myself buying it. Love the colour.
9. I'm waiting for the X2, have had the original Ditto for about a year now and I'm very very happy with it! The ability to stop the loop with a single click of the second switch is a welcome addition, as is that reverse thingy

I bought a Hipshot brass bridge from Jeremy. He was super patient and then very quick with posting the thing, which was also well packed, tracked etc and arrived in perfect condition. Wouldn't hesitate to deal again with this gentleman.
11. I want to swap the big ugly control plate on my Marcus with one made of brass. Is it at all possible to have one made? Is anyone here capable of fabricating one? Or, does anyone know of someone who would be? Thanks.
12. In my personal opinion, Squier Jaguar SS (Short Scale) is the best value short scale bass. Not sure if that's what you want though, the design (and the tone) is a fair bit different to the Gibson-style or Hofner-style instruments. The Epiphone EB-3 is long scale, so that one doesn't fit your requirements either. My advice is to look into cheaper Chinese versions of actual Hofner branded basses as well as Epiphones.
13. I'll take it off you right after xmas if you still have it by then.
14.
I'm actually toying with the idea of getting an S212 and letting one of my S112s go.
Please give me a shout if you decide to go this route! I'd still have to get another, new one though.
15. I don't know what's "decent" history on Basschat, but if mine was sufficient, I could host the cabs for a while, making them available for others too. I don't have a car however, so couldn't take them to anyone or pick back up. Hackney, London.
16. I've had an early (mid 90s) Peavey Milestone jazz-style bass that had body made of plywood. The unplugged sound was seriously good, and amplified one too, once I'd swapped the pickups. I was getting a lot of compliments on the bass' tone, especially after it was defretted and mostly from fellow bassists. Those who played it, always commented how resonant and responsive it felt. On the downside, the body was way too light causing really bad neckdive. The bass was also ugly as hell. But yeah, plywood can be perfectly adequate bass body material in my opinion.
17. ok, I have to ask this: anyone has an idea how would two 112's compare to, say, two Aguilar SL112's in everyday life? Like, small rock/jazz/funk gigs?

Count me in please! Either 4 or 5 strings, fretted or fretless works for me.
19. I will be too, alas probably sometime at the beginning of new year, or optimistically a month sooner. Two 112 it will be I guess.
20. Natural maple. To my eyes, coloured headstocks don't look good (with a few exceptions such as Dean Brown's blue strat) with maple fretboards.
21. I've owned 5 active basses, each one for more than a year, one of them for almost 3 years. I've changed a battery twice between all those basses, and both times it was a precaution. So that's not an issue at all. I don't have a preference, although at the moment I own two passive basses (well, one has a Sadowsky preamp built in, but it's totally bypassable and I normally play it in passive mode). I do appreciate to have the buffer so close to the pickups sometimes, as I often have 5.5m of cable between the bass and the pedalboard, 5.5m between the pedalboard and the amp and there still are the pedals (some of which I prefer to have buffered bypass too) and their patch cables. All my active basses had great tone, all rather different to anything you could squeeze out of a passive bass. I wouldn't mind having any of them back.
22. I've tried a few Clovers while living in Switzerland, very very nice basses and definitely worth the money. Nice German build quality. Easily comparable to Sandbergs in that regard. Maybe a bit generic and without a strong character of their own, but that's the price of versatility (some of them have quite clever pickup/preamp switching configurations).
23. I've changed the nut on my Marcus recently from plastic to brass and I do notice the difference. Granted, mostly just on open strings, but also, and I'm not sure if anyone mentioned that already, harmonics. Very obvious improvement there. If there was no difference, we could just as well have plastic-made bridges.
