1. wood doesn't matter, right... shortly after buying my Marcus, I also bought a Classic 70's jazz with EMGs installed. I kinda liked it, so I also installed EMGs in the Marcus. So, identical basses geometrically (scale length, shape, body-neck attachment, pickup positions and spacings) also had identical pickups. Guess what happened after I put identical strings (new D'Addario ProSteels .045-.105)? They sounded different. The difference while amplified was reflecting the difference that I could hear unplugged. Long long time ago I also for a little while had two 5-string Warwick Corvettes, one with ash body and wenge neck, the other with bubinga body and ovangkol neck. The difference was even greater; it was hard to believe that the pickups and preamp were identical and identically arranged. If you play your solid body electric bass while sitting down, what happens when you rest your chin on the body? Do you feel the vibration? Do you "hear" the sound through your bones? Aren't the pickups mounted in that vibrating body? So, aren't they also vibrating, relative to the also vibrating strings? So, isn't it possible that what the pickups pick up is vibration of the strings against the body, and if the body against the strings, combined?
2. This looks awesome, I've got a couple of ideas for basses with Status necks, and you're not helping with being patient...
3.
I am a possible for this: have a gig at a beer festival the night before but assuming I can manage to wake up on Sunday, what would people like to see? Fender CIJ '70s precision, Nordstrand pickup and P-Retro, maple fingerboard, and Yamaha BB800, rosewood fingerboard for the comparison? Yamaha BBNe2 Nathan East Sig? MTD Kingston Artist 5? Duesenberg Star Bass? Various Bass Collections, fretted and fretless? '70's Double Bass?
The Yamahas!
I'm going to try and make this. The first Herts bash in 2013 was great fun but I had to miss last year. I should be free this weekend but a recent back problem may dictate otherwise (Jack, where are you when I need you?! ). Gear - depends on the aforementioned back problem but I'll probably bring 'old reliable' (Stingray 5, 1989, maple neck). Possibly also a 2001 Stingray 4-string fretless (Rosewood neck) and a 1991 Tune TWB-6 6-stringer (Rosewood neck). (Or other basses as per my signature pic if there's any interest). Hope to see you all on Sunday.
The Westones!

5. wow, I didn't expect the difference to be that big.
6.
I'm going to write it down and ask my eldest's schoolmate's Dad, he's Polish Back to the bass. I think WoT's new bass looks WAAAAY better than the Lakland and I really like the Lakland.
I'm Polish too ma-roosh-chick is as close as it gets, of course our Y is more open and we've got those sexy continental hard Rs.
7. He's not a member and I don't have pics, but a friend of mine ordered one after LBGS, and received a few weeks later - a 5-string jazz, kind of '66 aesthetics - dots & binding, lollipop tuners, Hipshot vintage style bridge, Haussel pickups, oly white with painted headstock. A beauty. I'm going to order one later this year too. Had a bass from the same luthiers (under a different brand) in late 90s and it was awesome. And yours is beautiful, WOT. Very classy.
8. I'm not sure if it was this thread, but someone gave excellent pronunciation advice - if you can say "pushchair", you can pronounce "szcz" in Maruszczyk.
9. I got 9, did ok on note/chord/key recognition in bass and treble clefs but failed wherever guesswork was involved: funky clefs (yes, copyright), classical terms etc.
10. my 2i2 arrived and as rubbish as I am with all things technical in general and computer-related in particular, 15 minutes later I managed to record a bass track to a backing track in Reaper. Good stuff.
11. I'm interested. Got the Cali76 and love it, but sometimes I wish it was smaller. The soft/hard knee switch on the Keeley might be nice too, and I like the finish.
12. well it would be awesome to have a Sabre there, too
13. this is exactly the "Wife" that I want to get eventually and keep forever and be buried with. Can't afford it now, maybe in half a year. Good luck with the sale.
14. mine is ordered, shall give it a go in a few days Hope it will cooperate with my lowly laptop...
15. I voted 3. GAS does strike, but only temporarily and for random object each time; few days later I don't even remember what it was. Got an active/passive Jazz 4 with maple; passive PJ 5 with rosewood and a fretless PJ 4. Very fond of each, the fretless is still growing on me as I've only had it for a month or so. I'm pretty much set, although a good old P wouldn't hurt.
16. I'm buying an interface (most probably a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or 2i4) and there's one little piece of info I couldn't find anywhere. When I'm recording bass to an existing project, can I use the direct headphones monitoring (for no latency) and still hear the demo that I record to? Or do I just hear my bass then and I need to use the non-direct monitoring fed back from the computer to hear both? Sorry if the question is stupid
17. back when Warwick's line-up was less confusing (all basses were made in Markneukirchen and all were fully customisable), maple fretboard was a popular option, one of the cheapest ones too. I've played a couple, they do exist. Kind of rare though, I imagine. As for Yamahas, I've got a couple, but both rosewood (BB415 and BB350 fretless). I don't think there is a model that comes with a choice of fingerboard wood, the only one that springs to mind is an entry level mid-90s Attitude Special (or Plus?); essentionally a P-bass clone with either maple or rosewood depending on the paintjob. But they are rare too, more so to find a pair. Then again, current top-of-range BB2024 apparently has maple as an option and I recall someone on BC having one like that; and quite a few users owning the standard rosewood ones.
18.
(...) Ideally we'd like a pair of Jazzes (...)
The Marcus Miller jazz I'm bringing is ash body, maple fretboard and it DOES have a passive option with tone control.
19. I'm bringing a maple-boarded jazz, it has an onboard preamp though and 70s pickups spacing. By all means use it if it's ok.
20. I might bring a friend along. He just had a 5-string Maruszczyk jazz made in beautiful '66 esthetics (dots&binding, lollipop tuners, painted headstock) and should bring it.
21. I'm bringing a Marcus jazz with Sadowsky preamp. Maple fretboard.
22. Mensinger is another brand made in the same factory. It's had different owners throughout the year (I've had a couple of their basses in the past, branded Mensfeld and MEG), now they seem to make Mensinger and Maruszczyk. I don't know what Adrian's part in Mensinger is, if any (he does sell them in Public Peace though).

Feedback for ras52

Bought a fretless Yamaha from Richard, he very kindly waited until I had funds, then we met in town and made the transaction. FFantastic communications prior to that. Top gentleman.
