samick

my wifes just bought me a samick yb5-639/gig form a bloke she works with.the bass is in quite good condition with one or two dings to the headstock.ive cleaned it up and it plays quite well the only thing is every now and then it makes a loud pop.its an active bass but I really cant find much on the net about them.anyone any ideas whats causing the loud pop. cheers rob
3. I use a streamliner into 2 2x10 focus cabs its enough for me
4. today ive done rotting in the free world by carcass its a great song and rio duran duran
5. its always been the left side for me.when I first started in bands I chose that side so I could see the bass pedal and hear the hi hat.it was a confidence thing back then now its just habbit
6. I was offered a washburn ab-34 for a stupidly low price all it needed was the truss rod adjusted.now its the go to bass for home practice never put it through my amp
7. sorted took the machine head off it turns out that the peg is two halves joined by a small splined shaft they pull apart.so I put a small bit of plumbers tape round the splined shaft and pushed it back together no more rattle
8. while playing my vmj tonight I noticed a huge rattle when playing open strings.it turns out the top half of the g string tuning peg is loose compared to the threaded bit and that's where the rattle is from.so before I take it apart can it be re tightened or do I just need to replace it cheers rob
9. when we first got our srmv's both of them packed in pretty quickly.they went away came back, broke went away again came back, broke then Mackie sent two brand new replacements which have been ok so far.but while they were away we had to buy speakers to gig with so we went with rcf and they have been great
10. yeah me I went with a gotoh bridge fender 60's custom shops and new pots and wiring loom off of KiOgon.the end result is a bass with a lovey tone.its quite dark sounding compare to my other basses properly to do with different value pots and cap and theres no hum when just using one pick up.overall still chuffed with the end result and my fender p is now my back up
11. if lots of bass is your thing then the streamliner will fit the bill.ive used my streamliner every weekend for almost two years now and never had a problem.it did take me a while to find my sound it wasn't straight forward.and with the offers they have on genz gear atm theres no better time to buy.but if you can try them first
12. what tuners are you thinking of using?im thinking about a black gotoh bridge and hipshot b7 tuners
13. if theres enough people to be able to relay the bass up to Cumbria id like to take part.
14. I tried flats once.I bought a set of steve harris flats they were only on a week I couldn't cope with the string tension.it felt like steel rods
15. my normal amp/cab set up is streamliner into 2 2x10 gb focus cabs.but I have a back up max450 which is happy to run at 2ohms all day.last practice I dusted off the peavey and give it a blast.now im starting to think I prefer the sound from the peavey.it just seems sharper and not as lazy if you know what I mean.any way am I right in thinking the 450 could run 3 2x10 focus cabs or would it knacker the head?
16. it could be a dodgy set of strings

bridge

now that ive upgraded the pick ups and electrics on the vmj the next thing on my list are new new tuners and a bridge.i have a gotoh 201 on my fender p and im very happy with it so another gotoh is an option but ive been reading about the babicz bridge and how great it is.so has any one used the babicz bridge and is it really that much better than the gotoh ? cheers rob
18. try as many as you can your hands and ears will tell you whats right
19. hi and welcome.for your budget id look at the squire jmv series.i got mine second hand but was really pleased with it in stock form.it has a really nice neck and the pick ups are ok.you can always upgrade the components at a later date
20. just had practice with the bass very happy.i didn't notice any finger noise from the strings.had the neck volume on about full and the bridge at 30% and it sat well in the mix.the Duncan design pick ups and wiring loom are now in my old samick
21. thanx for the jazz loom.very well made and solid.i wish every one was as fast and efficient do deal with.
22. thanx to kiogon for the loom installed the pick ups today.not as loud as I was expecting but what a nice mellow tone from them and no buzz at all. very pleased with them
23. the older I get the higher the bass gets
24. lol I tried turning down once.no bugger noticed me miming half of our set.that's the trouble with having two guitarists all's fine during sound check then one feels he isn't loud enough turns up then its all out war
25. intrigued in this box of which you speak of.it sounds like witchcraft to me
