  1. Thanks cardinaljay - it's fantastic and a joy to play. If I hadn't stopped gigging I could warrant keeping 3 basses but........rules are rules and are firmly established by the boss!
  2. I bought it from evil bay. The balance / volume pot had been pulled apart. I expected it to need replacing but - believe it or not - I put the pot back together, popped in a new battery and it worked perfectly! It looks like someone thought it was a push / pull pot and tried too hard. Really hard..... The body was filthy as was the fret board. The neck had a forward bow so it went in to Ged Green - top luthier in Manchester - and had a full set up. The truss was adjusted, frets levelled and polished and fret board lemon oiled. The body was polished with cut and polish and came up remarkably well. It was a keeper, as it turned out so well, until a USA Jazz deluxe FMT turned up (in tobacco burst with gold hardware, bound neck / block inlays and flame maple top). I’d been looking for one for ages and it just popped up on Facebook so it had to be done meaning the jazz plus and my MM sterling have to go.
  3. Thanks IPG. They’re great basses aren’t they? If it wasn’t for the arrival of my gorgeous FMT it wouldn’t be going anywhere.....
  4. Had some trade offers but nothing grabbing me yet. A flea jazz could tickle my fancy. its on e vil bay now but hope it sells here first.
  5. Hi kingchrome - excuse my ignorance, but what are the basses? Could you PM me with details if you're interested?
  6. Hi Chewie I managed to find a 90s USA Jazz FMT deluxe in perfect condition for a great price and couldn't help myself. I'm such a jazz bass fan and the FMT is a gorgeous model. They only come up every now and then so it had to be done. However on the one out one in rule - established by she who must be obeyed - something has to go so I've got this and my Jazz plus up for sale. Cheers
  7. Price £750. Open to offers or trades. Feedback is that this is extremely rare - most people have never seen this model before and definitely never seen one up for sale. Back up for grabs as a trade fell through is my extremely rare 1990 / 91 USA Jazz bass plus finished in reverse metallic blue burst with rosewood fretboard, Lace sensor pickups and I think it's an early Kubicki preamp. This a really unusual bass and was Fender's early deluxe active electronics bass. At the time it was apparently one notch down from a custom shop. The body is a reverse blue burst metallic and, with the exception of a minor ding on the lower side, is in really good condition for 27 years. The electronics are volume / pan stacked pot in 1, treble & bass controls stacked pot in 2 and a 4 way rotary selector for passive (position 1), active with mid boost (pos 2), active normal (pos 3) and a kill control in position 4. The mid boost is adjustable on the preamp via a trim pot. It has a high mass bridge and light gotoh deluxe tuners. The neck has some surface lacquer cracks which you can't feel whilst playing, as has the headstock. It could be sanded back and re-lacquered I guess but I wouldn't dare.............it's got a good vintage colouring. It has a good wide variety of jazz tones and has a good raspy thump to it. The chrome hardware is in good condition. The knobs are new. It's just been set up with Ernie ball slinky's and had a going over by Ged Green (top luthier) in Cheadle. It had hardly any fret wear but did have a stiff truss rod due to a bit of corrosion. the micro tilt is also corroded and doesn't micro tilt any more. The truss is stiff but does turn and the neck plays superbly well with low action. It wouldn't be for sale but I just got a USA deluxe FMT - a bass I've wanted for years - so something has to give. The case is original and is knackered. It has a chunk missing from the ABS and is badly worn. It has ridges in it which look like they may be from it being in a loft...maybe.. So although it is original it is also rather horrid...... I'll post it anywhere but it will need to be insured so will be £45 or so for UK and £60 elsewhere. I can meet up within a reasonable distance of Chester or it can be tried out in Kelsall, Cheshire.
  8. Just had it on the kitchen scales and it’s about 9 1/2 pounds / 4.3 kg.
  9. Bump for this superb bass.
  10. Up for grabs is my 1992/3 USA Musicman Sterling bass in natural satin with rosewood fretboard. Sale only as I just bought my dream Jazz bass so something has to give..... I will post anywhere but it will need to be insured so will be around £45 UK and £60 to Europe. I can also meet up within a reasonable distance of Chester. This is from the first run of USA MM sterling basses and is extremely rare, having the recessed neck plate, chrome battery cover, a highly figured maple neck and rare mute pad bridge (with mute pads removed for now as the action is low). These were only produced in this spec for about a year. It's only just been set up by Ged Green - top luthier in Manchester - and as far as I know it has never been gigged. The previous owner was bought it new in the 90s by his Dad, tried bass, didn't like it and then parked it for 20+ years in a case in the loft. I got it from him and it was dirty but in really good condition. It had the neck treated with lemon oil, frets levelled and polished, truss adjusted, action set nice and low and intonation set. It also has new Ernie ball slinkly strings on. According to Ged it has hardly ever been played. It plays like a dream and sounds fantastic. The 22 fret neck is 1.5" at the nut and is super smooth. It has a single Humbucker with 3 band Eq and the 3 way toggle switch for parallel / single coil / series selection for the ceramic phantom coil pickup. The body is smaller than the Stingray and with the narrower nut, slimmer neck and lighter body it is - in my opinion - way easier to get on with and tonally more flexible than it's big ugly cousin the Stingray!! It has schaller strap buttons and I'll throw in a leather strap with schaller locks. It weighs in around 9lbs and comes with a MM case in really good condition - although this isn't the original case. The body is finished in satin lacquer and there are hardly any marks on it although there is a little surface mark near the pickup selector switch. There is also a minor ding on the top of the headstock and the chrome tuners and bridge are a little tarnished but not rusty. All in all it is in superb condition. I just got a USA FMT Jazz so on a strict one in one out basis, I have to sell this otherwise I'll be in big trouble........... As for trades, let me know what you have - so long as there's cash my way then it will appease the Mrs
  11. Since asking if anybody got their amp sims to work with the apptek socket. I've trialled several amp sim apps and got to a very happy place with my amp. I got Bias Fx, Bias Amp, Jamup Pro, Amplitude and Ampkit to work perfectly with mine - Bias Fx being by far the best due to the ability to import other people's tone / cab setups from the tone cloud. As a stand alone bass amp, of course it's not up to much (unless it was loaded with some far better speakers) but was that ever the point of this thing? At £600 I wouldn't even go near it. At £200 it's a brilliant bit of kit that works as a desktop rehearsal amp / modelling amp and a good bluetooth speaker. It's particularly handy if you play lead guitar too as you definitely get no farting out then and the sim apps are targeted for guitar far more than for bass. Mind you mine doesn't fart out anyway.
  12. I don't have any trouble with mine either. I've got a USA Sterling and a USA jazz deluxe - both active - and I've got no farting out at all. Out od interest has anyone tried the apptek / ampkit function and how good is it if so?
  13. It has been re-listed now but as a non genuine fender. No sh☆t......
  14. I was passing some time and searching through the bay I found this thing; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222747077860 It seems that whilst taking photos in the kitchen someone felt peckish and took a huge bite out of the headstock and then decided to adorn the case with a leftover kitchen blind. This is one that won't be joining my collection......
  15. On ebay and at £500 at the mo with a couple of days to go. It may go sky high but who knows. Worth watching.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263361845126
  16. Bought a lovely Epiphone Sheraton from Dunc. What a gent. We'd agreed a meet up point but then Dunc basically volunteered to come over to my neck of the woods. Great guitar. Great fella. Wish all trades were like this. Thanks Dunc.
  17. I'm absolutely delighted with mine. Defo an active bass gives better sound but bluetooth connectivity for audio streaming and a 75w desktop bass amp for £200 is not to be sniffed at!!!
