  1. It seems we have a battle of the Orange basses going on here. Have a free bump from me for a fantastic little bass.
  2. 10 hole jazz scratch plate with rout for precision pickup in the neck position. The P bass pickup slot is lower than in some P/J basses (is actually the right precision bass position according to my USA P) but may be good for a project for someone. I’ve just noticed it has a scratch beneath the neck rout so dropped the price. £5 incl UK postage.
  3. For sale DP122 precision pickup and DP123 jazz pickup with adjustable pole pieces. Bring your P/J bass to life! Great condition. Around 5 years old. Been in a bass that’s seen light use but in perfect working order. £65 including UK postage.
  4. Fantastic jazz bass preamp, 6 years old looking at the serial number but never seen much action and in perfect working order. Features solderless hook up, volume / blend stack pot, bass / treble stack pot, mid frequency sweep / boost stack pot, bright function (push / pull treble pot), passive blend switch and passive bypass switch. Also has trim pots under the hood to perfectly blend your pickups. Heres what the East website says; The J-RETRO 01 is designed to fit directly into standard "Jazz" style basses without modification, including a PP3 battery, in most cases. Its high quality circuit uses three stacked knobs and includes an active blend circuit plus a 3 band equaliser with bass, variable frequency mid, treble and bright function. A very gentle built in contour gives immediate colour without detracting from the basic sound of any bass. The active blend circuit prevents the loss associated with many passive basses where, when both pickups are up full, the signal from one pickup feeds into the other and vice versa. However, a switch is included to allow a passive equal mix of both pickups. A second switch - basic "get-you-out-of-trouble" passive mode is included in case the battery dies in crucial circumstances, and this mode allows some useful settings too. EASY TO FIT, NO ROUTING OR MODS TO MOST J STYLE BASSES. A STANDARD PP3 BATTERY FITS UNDER THE PLATE IN THE STANDARD CAVITY
  5. He had this up at £550 earlier today until I pointed out to him that it was a highway 1 so he slashed the price - which isn’t what I meant when I mailed him - I meant he should put a description in the ad to say it was a highway. Anyway as it happens it’s now pretty cheap!,
  6. Thanks Gary Mac. That’s the sort of thing I was thinking but didn’t know what glue to use or how to get it into the void. Titebond wood glue it is then and I wonder if I could use a syringe. I’m guessing I could then run a fine line of superglue down the crack when set......maybe......then scrape it back.....maybe I think I’ll try to solve the crack / hollow paint first. Thanks
  7. £200 including UK postage. Up for grabs is my little Orange O bass in bright Orange, with Orange padded carry case. Single precision pickup, white pick guard, very lightweight okoume body, maple painted neck with ebony fretboard and it’s well balanced. Comes with strap locks / buttons. Recent set up with new Ernie Ball slinkys and in good condition with a couple of dings. One filled with orange nitro (not a perfect colour) on the upper bout and a few very minor chips to the black neck binding. Nothing affecting feel or playability. 34” scale, 43.6mm nut width, weighing in at only 7lbs but very well balanced thanks to well placed strap buttons. The neck is P bass width but doesn’t feel so deep. It’s quite a nice bass for the money, very quirky, plays well and sounds good especially with a bit of drive. I’ll be sad to see it go but I’ve just bought back one of my old basses so it has to go. Will courier included in the price (depends on the price agreed I guess) or it can be road tested / collected chez nous near Chester. Here’s what the Orange boys say; The O Bass is the brainchild of Orange Technical Director and lead designer Adrian Emsley, whose inspiration came from his self-confessed love of vintage gear. Having spent a lifetime modifying all manner of bass guitars, the O Bass brings together all of his know-how in a unique and truly charismatic instrument. Aside from its impeccably sleek lines and shapely aesthetics, the O Bass delivers the goods where it really matters. Plugging in reveals a sound with buckets of personality – familiar, yet somehow all of its own. A custom-wound split–coil pickup bears a very distinctive sonic mojo, with a well-balanced bass response and a bold and defined mid-range. Players with a softer touch will immediately find themselves in Motown territory, with earthy overtones in abundance. Dig in a little more aggressively and the O Bass responds with an infectious harmonic grind that harks back to the birth of rock ‘n’ roll. As Emsley puts it, “It growls like a policeman’s dog!” The O Bass first made an appearance in an early form as a demonstrator piece at the 2014 winter NAMM show, hidden from public view in the Orange booth. However, having been leaked on a number of videos on the internet, we were inundated with requests to put it into production. And here’s the spec; FINISH OPTIONS: TEAR DROP SUNBURST | OFF-BLACK | ORANGE CONSTRUCTION: 4 STRING FRETTED SINGLE CUTAWAY| BOLT ON BODY: OKOUMÉ |BASSWOOD VENEER | A.B.S. 8. Really? It looks so shiny and lovely apart from the obvious hollow noise when tapping the finish.....
  9. Just got a Mexican jazz and the paint in the cutaways is hollow to tap and loose but still very much in place (although there is a crack in the lower cutaway). I know it’s common in fenders but I was wondering if anyone had tried any clever methods to insert glue under the paint and re-bond it to the wood beneath - like drilling a tiny hole, putting glue in a syringe, squirting it under the paint and masking the loose lacquer down......maybe.....
  10. Squier affinity series precision bass neck complete with tuners. Made in Indonesia. Looks nice, frets are getting a polish tomorrow and fretboard receiving some lemon oil. Should come up a treat. £35 including postage.
  11. God loves a liar. Sorry. Trier.
  12. If they are, how do they get away with it? I paid £6 plus £2 postage. “Wish”full thinking that they’d be genuine maybe.....
  13. Will report back when they (eventually) arrive. The seller seems to have satisfied customers so here’s hoping.....
  14. Up for grabs is my superb 1998 Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass, crafted in Japan and in condition belying its 20 years. Purportedly from an era when these basses were a touch better than later Geddy Lee reissues (USA model excepted), this plays brilliantly and sounds superb. Equipped with badass bridge, bound one piece maple neck with black block inlays and a width at the nut of about 38mm, USA vintage pickups, cloth wired with cts pots, vintage open gear tuners and is of course finished in classic black (I don’t think they should anything other than black). It has one minor ding which I’ve tried to capture in pic 8 but it’s been filled with black fender nitro touch up so can barely be seen. It’s had a recent set up with new Ernie Ball slinkys. It weighs in at about 9lbs, has schaller strap buttons on (originals with it too) and comes with a gator case. Will post anywhere. Price includes insured UK shipping. Will ship abroad but will be a bit more. Based in Cheshire so can deliver or meet up within a 50 mile radius of Chester.
  15. I wonder whether adding a status neck to a mex jazz makes it worth more than the sum of its parts? I mean you can snag a mex jazz for £300 if patient, add a £400 neck, maybe add a set up = about £750......
  16. I’d never really heard of wish.com but a link took me to the website and being inquisitive I thought I’d see what was on there....a lot of trash........but in amongst the trash were brand new elixir strings for £6 plus £5 shipping. They retail at £40+ so I’ve given it a go to see what I get and when I get them......I’ll report back. https://www.wish.com/product/elixir-nanoweb-14077-electric-bass-strings-4-strings-ultra-thin-coating-steel-stings-045-105-5b3f107867607e1ec272d74e
  17. It sold once for £800 but has since been resisted. Apparently the bidder was in Japan and had failed to mention that!
  18. Ah but they wouldn’t “re-glaze” your frets for you, a speciality carried out using brown sugar and executed with a blow torch.
  19. I saw a Shuker Jaffa orange Jazz, block inlays maple neck with reverse headstock (and correctly oriented tuners) and it was gorgeous. £800.....I should have bought it...... However this thing on eBay is something else. I had to check at least 3 times after seeing those r/h tuners on an upside down lefty neck. Bonkers.....
  20. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F163231101548 Just a typical jazz bass with reverse headstock and upside down tuners......
  21. To cross over from another thread re famous basses, I wonder if this was used on any of the albums by Lou Rawls?
  22. Glad it doesn’t have a pebble dash finish...
  23. Well true generosity of spirit would have been for the seller to sell the bass on behalf of TM Stevens for a modest fee, not to exploit his name for a huge mark up.
  24. I noticed this crappy epiphine dot 335 signed by Noel Gallagher (or anyone who can scribble) for a grand! Note to self; must take shittiest guitar and marker pen to a gig nearby soon... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232866405310
