Loose paint on cutaways. Is it fixable?
vinorange replied to vinorange's topic in Repairs and Technical
Really? It looks so shiny and lovely apart from the obvious hollow noise when tapping the finish..... -
Just got a Mexican jazz and the paint in the cutaways is hollow to tap and loose but still very much in place (although there is a crack in the lower cutaway). I know it’s common in fenders but I was wondering if anyone had tried any clever methods to insert glue under the paint and re-bond it to the wood beneath - like drilling a tiny hole, putting glue in a syringe, squirting it under the paint and masking the loose lacquer down......maybe.....

God loves a liar. Sorry. Trier.

WISH. Elixir strings for crazy price.
vinorange replied to vinorange's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
If they are, how do they get away with it? I paid £6 plus £2 postage. “Wish”full thinking that they’d be genuine maybe..... -
WISH. Elixir strings for crazy price.

Will report back when they (eventually) arrive. The seller seems to have satisfied customers so here’s hoping..... -
Up for grabs is my superb 1998 Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass, crafted in Japan and in condition belying its 20 years. Purportedly from an era when these basses were a touch better than later Geddy Lee reissues (USA model excepted), this plays brilliantly and sounds superb. Equipped with badass bridge, bound one piece maple neck with black block inlays and a width at the nut of about 38mm, USA vintage pickups, cloth wired with cts pots, vintage open gear tuners and is of course finished in classic black (I don’t think they should anything other than black). It has one minor ding which I’ve tried to capture in pic 8 but it’s been filled with black fender nitro touch up so can barely be seen. It’s had a recent set up with new Ernie Ball slinkys. It weighs in at about 9lbs, has schaller strap buttons on (originals with it too) and comes with a gator case. Will post anywhere. Price includes insured UK shipping. Will ship abroad but will be a bit more. Based in Cheshire so can deliver or meet up within a 50 mile radius of Chester.

Fender Jazz MIM with Status Graphite neck
vinorange replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I wonder whether adding a status neck to a mex jazz makes it worth more than the sum of its parts? I mean you can snag a mex jazz for £300 if patient, add a £400 neck, maybe add a set up = about £750...... -
I’d never really heard of wish.com but a link took me to the website and being inquisitive I thought I’d see what was on there....a lot of trash........but in amongst the trash were brand new elixir strings for £6 plus £5 shipping. They retail at £40+ so I’ve given it a go to see what I get and when I get them......I’ll report back. https://www.wish.com/product/elixir-nanoweb-14077-electric-bass-strings-4-strings-ultra-thin-coating-steel-stings-045-105-5b3f107867607e1ec272d74e

Fender Jazz MIM with Status Graphite neck
vinorange replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It sold once for £800 but has since been resisted. Apparently the bidder was in Japan and had failed to mention that! -
Ah but they wouldn’t “re-glaze” your frets for you, a speciality carried out using brown sugar and executed with a blow torch.

Upside down, back to front. What’s going on here?
vinorange replied to vinorange's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I saw a Shuker Jaffa orange Jazz, block inlays maple neck with reverse headstock (and correctly oriented tuners) and it was gorgeous. £800.....I should have bought it...... However this thing on eBay is something else. I had to check at least 3 times after seeing those r/h tuners on an upside down lefty neck. Bonkers..... -
To cross over from another thread re famous basses, I wonder if this was used on any of the albums by Lou Rawls?
-
Glad it doesn’t have a pebble dash finish...

£7000 for a £1k bass and a £6k story 😂
vinorange replied to bigsmokebass's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Well true generosity of spirit would have been for the seller to sell the bass on behalf of TM Stevens for a modest fee, not to exploit his name for a huge mark up. -

I noticed this crappy epiphine dot 335 signed by Noel Gallagher (or anyone who can scribble) for a grand! Note to self; must take shittiest guitar and marker pen to a gig nearby soon... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232866405310 -
Boy that’s a big control cavity.

I could change this post to "what's your best ever misspelt bargain".
-
Alright..... I didn’t see those posts and just thought I’d say my bit. True about spelling mistakes though. I bagged a brand new car “trailor” off eBay with no watchers and no bidders for an absolute bargain and imho it’s just as good as a trailer..... Shame fender is so easy to spell.
-
I could list loads of basses on eBay with spelling mistakes and I know auto correct tries its best to tie us in knots sometimes but seriously, if you’re trying to sell a bass with squier on the headstock then don’t advertise it as a squire....... Is it only me? It is cloudy. Maybe I’m feeling grumpy......

I’ve been newly exposed to this chap’s creations and conversions but did wonder what he’s done to offend (apart from the obvious weirdosity of his creations). Looking at his eBay feedback he can’t be doing too much wrong as he’s achieved 1583 feedback score all of which are positive. I wouldn’t mind that score for trading instruments.
