Same here - thats why I can't be bothered carrying multiple basses to gigs, and I certainly don't have time to change between them. I also play the lightest as at least 3 of my 5 strings are my lighter than my 4 string jazz (the EHB, the Maruszczyk and the 1605). I never saw the complication of muting on a 5 string, any more than muting on a 4 string, but obviously we are different people and as I say 5 strings are my preferred thing. The only think I find 4 string better for is slap, and I don't really slap (because I neither like it or am any good at it - those two are probably related in one way or another). I just have the two 4 strings - a Jazz, because I often feel I should have one, and a SR1000, because it means something, so I wouldn't get rid of it. If I was playing my own music and had roadies to bring me basses whenever, maybe I would use them live, but im not, I am in a cover group where our choice of songs is 'fluid' so happy with one bass that does everything. But understand what you mean and what you want, and that is the great thing that we all have our own ways, so what works for you is good for you. Apart from the less strings, we are the same then

Same as Al. I only play a 5 string, it's what comfortable. I keep trying with 4s as there are nice ones, but no, don't get on with it. Also in my group there are some songs I need a 5, and I don't want to swap basses. I tried 6 but I think I messed up a bit in that I just took it to the first gig after I got it, and messed up a bit, I think I would have to had got used to it first. Still want to give it another try though

Don't use a 4 when one will do. Let's face it for most music you could get away with a single string. 2 at a push. You don't need 4 any more than you need 6, just what you are used to and what you want to use.

Having said that, now my wife's company has accepted the loss of all her European customers, it's only supplies that are the problem! on the plus side, as you say, if you want something under £135, it is generally good. I got some wireless sensors from AliExpress. They also collected vat and came slightly faster than my last order from Germany!

Well, A# is hardly low for a B string, although if you have gone from E-G to.. what A# - D# the loading on the neck maybe very different. What sort of intonation issue do you have?

I have a crafter SA, I am sure the Godins and Taylor's are better, but they are also a lot more. It's a Crafter QMMS, ie, blue and quilted. For my use it works well, small enough to have around now I look they seem more expensive - don't remember paying that much for it!

Me neither. It doesn't matter like singing with IEMs and you can easly adjust for it. I just mentioned it because of early on the thread. I mean, to be honest in our band sometimes the singer doesn't come in in the right bar, let alone a few ms late

They turned up today. Almost comedy big, but sound great, very clean / clear, no hiss and fits in the jack socket of every instrument here (including the ibanezes). Even at double the latency (I am sititng 2M from my speaker) it doesn't notice to me, but I will measure it. All in all, for £30, does the job. Looking at the size I suspect it is similar electronics to the HB one, but with the floor reciever and charging point (which they also do). I suspect this means the HB one will also fit in an Ibanez.

Sure it would be fine, I have had two 30" 5 string basses now and didn't have a problem with the B. I mean, how did basses ever get on when they went to the the short scale 34" from the 43" E string on a double bass? whos 6000 posts? both of us are past that

I meant the NE2. Thats nice. Yep, too much. The Ibanez EHB has 18 by default, but you can wind it in to 17.5 which is the high side of comfortable. Beyond that, however much I like it when i get it I end up not playing it. I am going the other way now, I suspect my next bass will be the EHB1005sms, which is 30-32"

I looked into it - string spacing was too wide for me and I hate the stripe thing on the headstock. Certainly nothing against yamaha (I have one of their pianos to my left and one of their flutes to my right), but none of them really grabbed me. Would certainly not turn down one like your white one, but somehow don't see me paying that kind of money! Not really planning anything currently at the moment, but you know, things come along from time to time.

I have seen you mentioning it. Doesn't seem that much of a deal as it needs a neck replacement or a lot of work. Almost picked up a 425 from the guitar auction the other day at £150, which I see that the gallery have for over £400

I take a backup, which is the hofner cricket bat, it takes no room and stays in the car. I have never really needed it, but I did once use it as I wasn't getting on with my primary bass. But for me it is just there for me to feel confident. I have spare leads, batteries. Ultimately the only things I ever really need are spare things of whatever the guitarist uses, as he is the one that forgets / breaks things and never carries a spare. Which is odd considering he brings 2 or 3 guitars and switches between them.

The Aroma ARG- 05 based ones. Two small dongles with jack plug and with USB sockets for power. I had some of the older type but I seemed to have lost them, and those are convenient for practices or just playing when I don't have my pedalboard.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't me knocking Primark, if you want something cheap and functional, it is a place to get something. What I am surprised at is the queue - in both Yeovil (where I live) and Bath (where i went last weekend) it was THE ONLY shop with a massive queue, all the others either had none or a very little one. This is nothing about keeping warm or stopping being arrested, you can get budget clothes of a decent quality in many places, this is a specific desire to get things from Primark.

Luckily mine is now nobbled The older SRs, certainly the prestiges all had sweepable mids. Mind you there are also some BTBs with Nordstrands in them. BTB20TH6-BT amongst others. Now I look I notice the 6 string BTBs have a decent string spacing. Might be worth checking one out.

Guessing low gloss? Every one I tried (which is admittedly less than 10) was noticeably heavier than the equivalent SR.

Love the look of the BTB, but the necks are too large for me, both width and length!

Same here, but one of them is a gibson. Its not quite as good as the indie but it is a different sound. There is a man that didn't observe their local high street on opening day a few weeks back, and the massive queues outside primark.
