I record all mine (and gigs) with my zoom H2n. Quality isn't always great and mixing depends on location, but I find it handy to go back and check things.

Disappointing. Mind you from here there site was always a mess, hard to find information on specific models etc (my no.1 bass is not on their site and it is definitely an ibanez!) The catalogues are useful though. Hope they stay there, although it would be better if you could order parts. Support in the UK has always been patchy, which considering their size is hard to fathom.

I would think it would be crazy to get that when you already have most of it. The stand for two things, the simple mixer and a two way power adapter are small numbers of pounds.

Yes, the batteries are in a container under the normal electronics. that is the model I have although I have replaced the preamp as it was faulty, so I put a glockenklang in there, but if it is working it is fine. They are great basses - rather heavy but that much wenge is never going to be featherlight!.

There has been a mod on the preamp. The original model (which I have), has a 3 band parametric EQ which gives you 6 controls - Bass / Treble / Q / Freq, volume, balance and a preamp bypass switch. Powered by 2 AA batteries it is a bit useless. Well worth a grand though. Later models have the same preamp which is the one from all the premium ones, which gives you Bass / mid / treble, volume, blend, frequency switch and bypass. Well worth a grand. Whatever version it is , its well worth a grand. Difference is - the new one is the 5005OL and the old one is the 5005E Ignore the colour variations - they are both the same

I think I had exactly the same experience with the same guy trying to get a control for the SR1000 (from 2006). Got one from ebay in the end, having said that, even that has gone bad now, these parts are a bit rubbish, but unfortunately where else are you going to get a concentric dual 100k log and 20k lin pot?

There were no chip designs or algorithms back in the OC2 day - its standard of the shelf components in a design that is widely shared. https://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/s/oc2-octave.php you could make one yourself. As a result if someone makes a direct copy of that circuit, it *will* be closer to the original than whatever is in the OC5

Not unusual as the primary octave dies faster than the harmonics.

Yeh, might do. Luckily it will be replaced - a new one will wing its way to me. I guess it's worth asking

You can see the inside of the tuner near where it connects. Absolutely no chance of it being fake. And yes, they are supposed to be good. I have never seen or heard of another one failing.

The massive split all the way along the tuner.. err.. whats it called.. the bit you turn? shouldn't be there. Meaning it no longer functions and it is not possible to tune that string.

I would agree, but for a music store (as Al also said) I don't think that the US is going to be that much of a market, compared to the other side of europe. Having said that, it overlooks the obvious that the largest market by probably an order of magnitude of the EUs products is the EU, and I assume that is also thommans biggest market. Effectively second hand trades in more common instruments has been shut down between the EU and UK, so it only really confirms new items. Thomman are pretty big and 5 months in they haven't introduced a scheme to collect vat, so I assume that means they don't really want to for some reason, rather than not beaing able to. They have obviously looked at their figures and decided it isn't worth it for whatever reason.. Also maybe now we are a new terrtory it means they aren't able to sell somethings here. I would have probably bought a ric from them if we had still been in a customs union.

Glad this wasn't at a gig, went to tune the bass yesterday and it wouldn't tune up.

I haven't noticed that (and tuned the 1505 yesterday), although I did notice that neither my 2605 or 5005 ever really went out of tune. So I guess the 1605 must have been more sensitive. Still, yesterday was a bad day for tuning!

Thats odd, I notice no noise difference between any of my premiums (actually down to 1 now) and the EHB, unless I am near a computer or my valve amp.

You are going to notice a huge neck change going from a SR300 to an NG3. Sounds to me just like something people say 'oh why don't you get an NG3' - its the sort of thing I would say when someone was looking at something cheap (well, not one of those!). Like if the guitarist was looking for a new guitar I would be saying something like 'oh why don't you get a private stock PRS - they look nice'. If you liked the SR300 but wanted to go up a bit in the range and get a 5, go for one of the prestiges - second hand you can get them at a good price. I exchanged my Dingwall combustion for my 1605 which has been my main bass since.
