The timeout is just the screen setting, turn it off and it never switches off.

Didn't like that so I got rid of it. Then I bought some gold leaf as it wasn't that expensive. Never done gold leaf before, didn't realise how flakey it was, and how hard to put on. But, although it is a bit rough at the moment and a bit uneven (I might try a bit more), it is way more umm.. lifefull? than the gold paint Still needs a bit of a tidy and removing of excess, but its much better than what was there before and you can really see it, which was the original problem

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2021?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
This year, I got quite a few new things, and got rid of some too, so I am fairly balanced at the moment So my best purchases of the year are probably the basses: Can see there is a bit of a theme there. A Talman35 30" 5 string, a Mustang CV 30" and a JR 27". Its all about the short scale! I also got a X-Touch mixer controller which I am pretty happy with but haven't had a chance to use it live yet, so can't say (all the basses have been used live) Worst, well there is nothing particularly bad. I guess my worst was the future impact, not because its bad (its not, its a lot of fun) its just that I am not going to be able to use it in any of my present groups and I am going to lose a fair bit selling it. Or just leave it lying round in a box! -
And then if it doesn't get confiscated, but gets lost in the post you can only claim up to the value you said it was worth.

Looking back I just went at a cursory glance, I think the last number is actually 68 rather than 66. I guess it was kicking round in the factory for a while!

OK, you can all give up the bass and go home now

I have family in Kent and Cumbria, would need a pretty impressive amp for them to hear it! -

Woodinblack replied to skankdelvar's topic in General Discussion
Because it is easier than driving round to all your family and friends and playing the same thing? -
I don't know, but we have one at markbass who make them.
-
I am guessing it is that you don't need more than a single run through to be able to work that bass line out

Insanely cheap G&L L2000 Tribute
Woodinblack replied to gjones's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Doesn't sound that cheap anyway, they don't tend to go for much more than £300 on ebay anyway, and there is plenty of time left -
I am very happy with mine, a few gigs into using it.

Items Wanted - Why is there no bump option?
Woodinblack replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
Nope. I looked. It is up to date and works, it just is an issue with the way the forum works. I am sure there is a way round it, but I am lacking some info! -
Items Wanted - Why is there no bump option?
Woodinblack replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
At the moment, no it is very entrenched in the way that the forum operates, in that the bump bar uses the same bit of 'furniture' as the reply button, and without the reply it is not there. I haven't given up, I am looking at other ways! -

Chowny/Retrovibe to become fully UK brands
Woodinblack replied to BassApprentice's topic in Bass Guitars
Over a £1000, yes. How much is a budget Wal? But some of their instruments are in the £500 bracket. And that is using far east bridges which cost next to nothing. Its quite feasable to get bridges etc made at an engineering shop here, but you need a very large number ot make it viable for the tooling. There is certainly a case of having models that were entirely locally sourced at the high end but I bet most people wouldn't buy them. Obviously it would but you still need a break point where it becomes worth it. ie, you need a big warehouse to be able to import 100 guitars to get you over shipping problems, but you don't need much space to get a shipment of 100 bridges. And frankly all that adds up - people will spend their whole day working out how to get a fiver off something, so price really matters. There was this forum I was on and a thread with people who were talking about a cage on a website and how cheap it was (£110 instead of £125 in other places), I looked and there was an IFrame injection attack on that site, it was compromised on the page you ordered it. People couldn't get to it on firefox as it wouldn't let them go to the page for their protection. The thread had moved on to tell people how to get round firefox blocking them getting to the site so they could order it. I tried telling them the risks, but apparently I was being elitist as I wasn't concerned about the price. -
Chowny/Retrovibe to become fully UK brands
Woodinblack replied to BassApprentice's topic in Bass Guitars
Certainly is. There are no large scale UK manufacturers of guitar hardware that I know of. Sure you can make them. but making them in low quantities means that they are very expensive. As you can see with your list of manufacturers provided, there are no £500 wals or overwaters are there. Maple isn't an indiginous tree to the UK (apart from the field maple), so its not a cheap wood in the UK like it was in the states (where its native and dominant). -

Jackson?? Are you making Nuclear fusion in your bedroom again? I told you to stop that. Can't you go out and play with your friends? And take that stupid hard hat off right now! -
I suppose from a shop point of view, who wants to stock strings that last a long time! I still have the stainless steel ones as well that I haven't used. I would love to put them on my shuker, but sadly they won't fit in the narrow slots.
-
Did a practice last night, and just took my original number 1 bass (the 1605) which has the longevo strings on it. I haven't played that bass for a while, as there were newer and shinier basses to play. I was fairly nocked out by how it sounded, so clear and bright. These strings have been on for quite a while now and I would have expected them to have got fairly dull, but they really haven't. If there is a way of getting these here at a reasonable price, they could well be my goto strings for normal scale basses.

What are you listening to right now?
Woodinblack replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
Well, if you want to play it, here is Guy Pratt (the bass player of the group) showing you! -
