  1. I've been reading this thread with interest and its blatantly obvious that not many people like this store, i have only ever been to london once and even then i never left the train station so i cant comment personally on their customer service but if i ever did go then i very much doubt i would even entertain the shop and all because of word of mouth from this site. At the other end of the spectrum, i recently bought a MIM Precision from Reidys Music in Blackburn, i went to the store personally which is about 30 miles away from me, i recieved a phone call from the shop while i was on the train to ask me if i needed directions to the shop, not many shops would do that, when i arrived at the shop the bass i had bought online was ready for me to try out, now im pretty new to bass playing so im no john entwhistle but i had a scream trying out the bass through a few amps and the girl (cant remember her name) said to take as long as i liked. There was also a fella in buying a tanglewood acoustic guitar and he sounded a pretty decent player but asked the fella behind the counter could he restring it for him as he couldnt do it, we had a goodl augh with the fella about that and the atmosphere was (pardon the pun) electric. All in all i would certainly buy from them again and im in the market for a new high end bass in the next few weeks sao guess which shop i will be going to.
  2. its a straight forward job really, just unscrew the 4 neck bolts and bobs yer uncle
  3. The first bass i ever played was my mates kay sg type thing, it was ugly as sin but it got him started and he now owns a very nice 80s precision. The first bass i ever owned was a peavey milestone 1, i sold it a couple of years ago to pay the leccy bill, i really liked that guitar and regret selling it but thats life i suppose.
  4. Cheers for the fast replys guys, the trip to london doesnt sound like a bad idea, its certainly worth thinking about, i'm in no rush really as i have about a month to sort it so plenty of time to look around, obviously nearer the time i will have a look in the for sale section on here (keep it in the family so to speak.lol) I'll keep you all updated. cheers, much appreciated. mick
  5. Just had a little inheritance come my way so i've decided to treat myself to a new bass in about a months time (cant wait). I already own a MIM Precision which i love to bits but im undecided whether to get an american precision or a gibson sg reissue ( i only wish i could afford both). any suggestions on other brands of basses would be most welcome, im pretty new to bass playing so a bit of info as well would be great Money wise i could go to a grand at a push and i know i can get a seriously nice bass for that so keep them suggestions coming. cheers mick
  6. Forgot to mention, the chrome vol/tone knobs are no longer on it,it has its original black plastic ones back on. it also has strings on now as well (which helps) cheers mick.
  7. I have a marlin sidewinder up for grabs, i dont use this at all so im offering it up for sale. This is an unfinished project. Needs new nut needs new saddles for locking nut could do with a new scratchplate (no big deal though) needs electrics looking at (they do work but are humming and making noise) possibly needs a new backplate as well as this has split. All in all doesnt need a great deal of work for someone who knows what their doing and its in pretty good nick for a 20 odd year old guitar, it has a few battle scars which is normal for its age. Im looking for £30 quick sale, prefer it to be picked up but depending on distance i could meet halfway
  8. My MIM Precision is called THE BIG BLUE. ( For obvious reasons)
  9. i've got my eye on one as well.
  10. cheers for that musky, much appreciated, i'll have a fiddle around with all the setting after and see what i come up with
  11. Just bought one of these and was wondering if anyone else had any experience with them, also when were they made, i believe it was sometime in the late 80s or very early 90s. mines in very good nick considering the age and sounds great, not had a chance to fiddle about with all the eq settings yet but looking forward to doing so.
  12. As the title says, i've hardley used it, looks brand new, only selling as i've just bought the laney amp in the pic so this wont get used anymore perfect for the house as its not to loud ( but loud enough to annoy the hell out of mum and dad ). would prefer this to be picked up as im skint at the moment plus i dont trust couriers or depending on distance i could possibly meet you. It doesnt have a kettle lead as im using it for the other amp but im on the lookout for another kettle lead ( i must have one floating about the house somewhere ) so if i get one then obviously it will have a kettle lead. im in WIGAN/LANCS. Looking for around the £40 mark, or if anyone has an old hardcase for a precision bass im quite happy to do a straight swap for the amp.
  13. I agree with all of the above, i bought one off ebay last year for 20 quid ( i was just starting out and didnt know any better). I threw away the neck and kept the body, i still have the body in the wardrobe upstairs, heavy as hell and plywood, dont even go there. I just use the body for learning to spray and prepping and thats all its good for.
  14. Not usually a fan of jazz basses but that is theeeeeeeeeeeeee most gorgeous one ive ever seen, absolutely love the colour.
  15. Surprise surprise, just been on another thread on here and the bass in question is back on again so obviously he never gave it to his mate in the first place, why lie. I just dont understand somepeople BEWARE.
  16. I've just picked up a really nice ashdown after eight practice amp for the house, sounds awesome for such a small amp and i#m seriously considering getting its big brother, the five fifteen, has anyone had any experience with this amp and if so what do you reckon of it. I mainly jam with a few mates who play acoustic but every now and again one of the lads will bring is fender strat and we'll play some rock stuff. Is the five fifteen up to it or should i step up slightly and get the EB 12. cheers mick.
  17. welcome to the wonderful world of bass. I bought a book called PROGRESSIVE BASS GUITAR by Gary Turner and Brenton White, its an excellent book and i still use it, it goes from beginner to advanced techniques so should keep you busy for a while.
  18. The wife bought me a cheap (and i mean cheap) precision copy last christmas as i wanted something i could put in the corner of the room and pick it up whenever the mood takes me and it sounds incredible for such a cheap and nasty bass, ok so theres a bit of fretbuzz here and there which is annoying after a bit but i can get sounds out of it i cant get out of my mim precision and to be honest im seriously thinking of getting a squire precision as i love precisions, it seems to me that squire are getting their act together of late.
  19. Like Mr Fudge, i have my practice bass stood in the corner of the room on a stand and pick it up everyday, its saves me from keep getting my main bass in and out of its case, i use it to practice scales or just plonk about on it then if it takes my fancy, plug in the amp. its all down to personal preference really
  20. Had a similar experience when i lived in preston a few years ago. I wasnt playing then but i was interested and i met a guy who collected basses, went to the pub one night and he baffled the life outta me, i#m all for listening and learning but it gets a bit much after 5 hours, i gave him the benefit of the doubt and went back to his house (ooh errrrrrrrrr) he had some stunning basses but didnt own an amp, said he didnt need one has he didnt play ( couldnt play) just collected them coz he likes the look of em. I like the look of old stone and mature women but i dont collect em.
  21. cant believe no one has mentioned D.I.V.O.R.C.E. now i would have though that would have been the ultimate song to leave off a set list. I told my ex wife at our wedding that she looked like peter sellers when he was in the pink panther because of the hat she chose, maybe thats why shes now my ex. lol.
  22. I would buy it for that price, i like rics but i'm not a fan of stingrays (sorry) i just cant get my head around the pickup position, im a precision man. I bought a stingray copy last year when i first started learning and while it sounded really nice (obviously not a patch on a real stingray) i just couldnt get used to it so i went and bought a MIM precision which im really happy with and feel very comfortable using. back to the matter in hand, buy the ric, its a bargain and if you dont like it then sell it on for what you paid for it, you know you will get the price no problem and you wont feel guilty about making aa profit courtesy of your mate, plus someone will get a bargain.
  23. go for it girl, im not usually a fan of the weird shaped guitars but i must admit i really like it, plus it does suit you so forget about the debt and play the bass, you look good
  24. Not good at all, arranged to meet and do a swap then he contacts me 4 hours before it happens to tell me hes giving the item to someone else. I hate leaving bad feedback for anybody as im not that kinda guy but i am p***ed off with being messed about, i had organised transport to get me there and everything. not good, not good at all.
  25. I've just read every single one of the posts on here and i was pi**ing my sides, i've never laughed as much in my life, if this is what gigging is all about then i cant wait to start, i suppose your gonna get dumps you have to play in (as bon scott said, "its a long way to the top,if you wanna rock n roll") but you take the rough with the smooth. Keep up the good work guys and gals, it makes me proud to say im a bassist.
