  1. Anyone know where to get a wiring diagram for a p/j pickup configuration as i"m doing a project and i fancy having a bash myself.
  2. i get the missus to wire up my pickups as she worked in an electronics factory for years and all she did there was solder electrics on all sorts of things so she knows what shes doing, although i must admit shes not overly happy about me pestering her all the time to do electric jobs on my basses but it saves me a fortune and i only have to make her a brew.
  3. i started learning late last summer and bought 2 basses to start with as they both had different sounds then last christmas my wife bought me a really cheap crappy precision copy that sounds incredibly good for the price, it has that really deep thumping precision sound to it and i love it, i pick it up everyday without fail, then i bought my mexican precision about 3 weeks ago so one had to go, i got rid of the 2nd bass i bought as there was just something not right about it. So i now have only three and also a project on the go, dont think i will be buying anymore in the near future but i would an acoustic bass and a jazz bass. ( we will have to see what the wife says)
  4. you may have already checked this but is your pickup to low
  5. i really like the sound of sonic blue and white, gotta lot work ahead of me with sanding and priming and the like. cheers for the input guys but keep the ideas coming.
  6. Theres some interesting bass players on this list but what you"ve gotta remember is everyone has different tastes so technically theres no such thing as an overated bass player. Personally i"m a huge fan of steve harris and geezer butler as they were the players that made me want to pick up and learn the bass. I dont dislike any bass player to be honest, regardless of which genre they belong to, i like listening to em all, i would rather listen to jason newstead than cliff burton but thats just my opinion and wont suit all the metallica fans out there
  7. sure, why not, like some of the other guys said if moneys not an issue then make a weekend of it but ask the seller to knock some coin of the asking price as you will be spending a shedload on petrol and hes getting a sale.
  8. Need help people, i"ve just decided to start on a bass project thats been hanging on my wall since last year, i"ve stripped it down to the bare wood but i need some suggestions as to what colours to use. I was thinking of doing it 2 colours, my main colour all over but with a different colour around the edges, be much appreciated if you could all pitch in with ideas.
  9. The chase is better than the catch by motorhead. Really simple bassline even for a beginner like me.
  10. i was torn between a mexican precision or jazz but went with the precision as i prefer the sound, mines the electric blue one but i"ve changed the colour of the pickguard from white to wine red as i hate black or white scratchplates
  11. Not so much overated but i would say the worst bassist ever to grace this planet has got to be SID VICIOUS but he made his mark (god knows why)
  12. i bought a cheap crappy bass at christmas just gone as i wanted a precision style bass to knock about on while i was saving up for a mexican precision (cant afford a jap or a usa model just yet. . i have now bought my precision so have decided to use the crap one to practice wiring up electrics, spraying, staining etc, doesnT sound to bad for a piece of s**t. so far i"ve sprayed the headstock 2 different colours and the scratchplate to match (it looks weird but i like weird). Basically i would recomend it to anyone if they want to get into learning about doing up basses or guitars, anyone else do the same thing, once i put it back together (its in pieces in my living room as we speak) i"ll try and post a pic on here but i"ve yet to get to grips with this computer lark.
  13. cheers, i did own a bass a few years ago but sold it to pay the bills (you know the score) but then last year decided to take it up again and now i"m getting stuck in seriously.
