  1. welcome to the wonderful world of bass. I bought a book called PROGRESSIVE BASS GUITAR by Gary Turner and Brenton White, its an excellent book and i still use it, it goes from beginner to advanced techniques so should keep you busy for a while.
  2. The wife bought me a cheap (and i mean cheap) precision copy last christmas as i wanted something i could put in the corner of the room and pick it up whenever the mood takes me and it sounds incredible for such a cheap and nasty bass, ok so theres a bit of fretbuzz here and there which is annoying after a bit but i can get sounds out of it i cant get out of my mim precision and to be honest im seriously thinking of getting a squire precision as i love precisions, it seems to me that squire are getting their act together of late.
  3. Like Mr Fudge, i have my practice bass stood in the corner of the room on a stand and pick it up everyday, its saves me from keep getting my main bass in and out of its case, i use it to practice scales or just plonk about on it then if it takes my fancy, plug in the amp. its all down to personal preference really
  4. Had a similar experience when i lived in preston a few years ago. I wasnt playing then but i was interested and i met a guy who collected basses, went to the pub one night and he baffled the life outta me, i#m all for listening and learning but it gets a bit much after 5 hours, i gave him the benefit of the doubt and went back to his house (ooh errrrrrrrrr) he had some stunning basses but didnt own an amp, said he didnt need one has he didnt play ( couldnt play) just collected them coz he likes the look of em. I like the look of old stone and mature women but i dont collect em.
  5. cant believe no one has mentioned D.I.V.O.R.C.E. now i would have though that would have been the ultimate song to leave off a set list. I told my ex wife at our wedding that she looked like peter sellers when he was in the pink panther because of the hat she chose, maybe thats why shes now my ex. lol.

  7. I would buy it for that price, i like rics but i'm not a fan of stingrays (sorry) i just cant get my head around the pickup position, im a precision man. I bought a stingray copy last year when i first started learning and while it sounded really nice (obviously not a patch on a real stingray) i just couldnt get used to it so i went and bought a MIM precision which im really happy with and feel very comfortable using. back to the matter in hand, buy the ric, its a bargain and if you dont like it then sell it on for what you paid for it, you know you will get the price no problem and you wont feel guilty about making aa profit courtesy of your mate, plus someone will get a bargain.
  8. go for it girl, im not usually a fan of the weird shaped guitars but i must admit i really like it, plus it does suit you so forget about the debt and play the bass, you look good
  9. Not good at all, arranged to meet and do a swap then he contacts me 4 hours before it happens to tell me hes giving the item to someone else. I hate leaving bad feedback for anybody as im not that kinda guy but i am p***ed off with being messed about, i had organised transport to get me there and everything. not good, not good at all.

  12. I've just read every single one of the posts on here and i was pi**ing my sides, i've never laughed as much in my life, if this is what gigging is all about then i cant wait to start, i suppose your gonna get dumps you have to play in (as bon scott said, "its a long way to the top,if you wanna rock n roll") but you take the rough with the smooth. Keep up the good work guys and gals, it makes me proud to say im a bassist.
  13. The only thing i'm doing with my MIM precision is changing the pickups and bridge and thats it. i couldnt justify going berserk and spending shedloads on it as i only use it for jamming with at the moment, maybe gigging in the near future, who knows, all i do know is it sounds fine as it is and i get the sounds i want out of it. i suppose everyones different.
  14. dont know about the jazz but i recently bought a mexican precision and im more than happy with it so i should imagine the jazz would be a great bass also.
  15. i couldn't care less what he does to achieve that sound. ITS CLASSIC AND I LOVE IT
  16. what sort of effects does lemmy use to achieve that classic motorhead sound, apart from the ric, i love it and would to get that sound. cheers mick
  17. sorry people, but its not my cup of tea, probably sounds gorgeous but its ugly. SORRY
  18. I Think using a thumb rest is a personal preference, i dont use one as i use the pickup for my rest but as you progress you will start resting your thumb on the string above the one your playing, ie, if your playing the G you would rest on the D and so on and so forth, all this will come with practice but if you want to try the rest then go for it,maybe it will suit you.
  19. There just stock pickups in the precision copy,im gonna put the mim pickups in it when i upgrade the mex and get a maple neck and fretboard for the copy.
  20. Just thought i would post a pic of my babys, there nothing special but their mine, hell i"ve only been playing a year. L To R. 2005 Mex Precision, Johnson Stingray Copy ( my first bass ) and a Medium scale Precision Copy that im gonna use as the basis for a project. Not a patch on the basses on here but hopefully in the near future i can add some more nice axes to my collection, steve harris even had to start somewhere. lol
  21. i dont have any photos unfortunatly but it was black with a matching headstock and neck, the tuners are none to clever so chances are i will replace the tuners when i eventually get round to getting a neck for it.
  22. I bought one off ebay about 18 months ago for 20 quid, bought it for a project i fancied doing, the neck was knackered but the body was fine, nasty plywood, heavy as hell, i still have the body, pickups and tuners,i've just started on it, only got as far as priming the body.
  23. johnson stingray copy bass in near mint condition and carlsbro kickstart 30w bass amp in outstanding condition. This is aimed solely at all you beginners out there, this is a nice little set up and perfect for noodling in the house, although i"ve used the amp in 3 jamming sessions and it performed wonderfully Ideally i'm looking to swap it for a slightly larger amp, 80 or 90w or thereabouts. I did have a fella lined up who offered me a carlsbro cobra 90 bass amp and the deal was all but done but he's just phoned me up and told me he no longer wants the gear, ( well and truly p***ed off, i can tell you ). It would have to be picked up as i"m skint although i could probably meet half way depending on distance. Theres nothing special about this gear but its been well looked after and everything works as it should.
  24. hi people i have a johnson stingray copy bass in great nick and a carlsbro kickstart 30w bass amp in pristine condition, a bloke i know has offered me a swap for his carlsbro cobra 90 bass amp, dont know much about the cobra but i need a bigger amp, should i expect him to ask me for cash as well or is it worth a straight swap chheers mick
  25. The list you have looks pretty impressive to me, i love all them songs.
