  1. The only thing i'm doing with my MIM precision is changing the pickups and bridge and thats it. i couldnt justify going berserk and spending shedloads on it as i only use it for jamming with at the moment, maybe gigging in the near future, who knows, all i do know is it sounds fine as it is and i get the sounds i want out of it. i suppose everyones different.
  2. dont know about the jazz but i recently bought a mexican precision and im more than happy with it so i should imagine the jazz would be a great bass also.
  3. i couldn't care less what he does to achieve that sound. ITS CLASSIC AND I LOVE IT
  4. what sort of effects does lemmy use to achieve that classic motorhead sound, apart from the ric, i love it and would to get that sound. cheers mick
  5. sorry people, but its not my cup of tea, probably sounds gorgeous but its ugly. SORRY
  6. I Think using a thumb rest is a personal preference, i dont use one as i use the pickup for my rest but as you progress you will start resting your thumb on the string above the one your playing, ie, if your playing the G you would rest on the D and so on and so forth, all this will come with practice but if you want to try the rest then go for it,maybe it will suit you.
  7. There just stock pickups in the precision copy,im gonna put the mim pickups in it when i upgrade the mex and get a maple neck and fretboard for the copy.
  8. Just thought i would post a pic of my babys, there nothing special but their mine, hell i"ve only been playing a year. L To R. 2005 Mex Precision, Johnson Stingray Copy ( my first bass ) and a Medium scale Precision Copy that im gonna use as the basis for a project. Not a patch on the basses on here but hopefully in the near future i can add some more nice axes to my collection, steve harris even had to start somewhere. lol
  9. i dont have any photos unfortunatly but it was black with a matching headstock and neck, the tuners are none to clever so chances are i will replace the tuners when i eventually get round to getting a neck for it.
  10. I bought one off ebay about 18 months ago for 20 quid, bought it for a project i fancied doing, the neck was knackered but the body was fine, nasty plywood, heavy as hell, i still have the body, pickups and tuners,i've just started on it, only got as far as priming the body.
  11. johnson stingray copy bass in near mint condition and carlsbro kickstart 30w bass amp in outstanding condition. This is aimed solely at all you beginners out there, this is a nice little set up and perfect for noodling in the house, although i"ve used the amp in 3 jamming sessions and it performed wonderfully Ideally i'm looking to swap it for a slightly larger amp, 80 or 90w or thereabouts. I did have a fella lined up who offered me a carlsbro cobra 90 bass amp and the deal was all but done but he's just phoned me up and told me he no longer wants the gear, ( well and truly p***ed off, i can tell you ). It would have to be picked up as i"m skint although i could probably meet half way depending on distance. Theres nothing special about this gear but its been well looked after and everything works as it should.
  12. hi people i have a johnson stingray copy bass in great nick and a carlsbro kickstart 30w bass amp in pristine condition, a bloke i know has offered me a swap for his carlsbro cobra 90 bass amp, dont know much about the cobra but i need a bigger amp, should i expect him to ask me for cash as well or is it worth a straight swap chheers mick
  13. The list you have looks pretty impressive to me, i love all them songs.
  14. Interesting thread as i'm thinking of upgrading my mex precisions pickup soon so quite a few ideas to go on, i'll probably put the mex pickups in my cheap precision bass even though the ones that are in sound fine ( fine enough for pissing around on) and annoying the wife.
  15. I had a similar problem with a cheap body i bought off fleabay, i stripped it right back to bare wood (ply) and it was nightmare to sort out, the sanding itself was bad news, in hindsight i really should have just wire wooled the laquer then primed over the top of that. On a good note i eventually sorted the body out and its just been primed and rubbed down and dsoesnt look to bad so far. but i'll know in future, live and learn, its great leveller.
  16. Dont know if this is in the right section or not but here goes. Im thinking of respraying my scratchplate purely because im really strapped for cash at the present and im not a fan of most of the scratchplate colours i've seen. What would be the best way to go about it. would i prime it first then rub down with fine paper, add the colour then laquer with a few coats then buff up the laquer with succesive grades of wet and dry, i've done it with a body and it came out fine but i've never done it with plastic before. Any help would be greatly appreciated, i just fancy something different for a change.
  17. I find i can think better when i've had a few beers, i just strap on my bass and start playing anything at all, i usually get the ball and chains keyboard out and mess out with that then put some riffs to that, some of em are garbage but some turn out ok.
  18. I have a cable i've had for about 8 years and its still going strong, the brands called "STRAIGHT A" and it been spot on,no crackles or anything, i think i paid about 7 quid for it, probably be a bit more now but im a tightwad and would rather spend my money on strings than cables.
  19. My missus doesn't pay me any compliments at all but i couldn't care less to be honest, i just love playing my bass, simple as that. You have a decent woman there, keep hold of her.
  20. I love it, it looks brilliant, certainly different
  21. What sort of bass tutor doesn't own his own bass. The word "cowboy" springs to mind and its blatantly obvious he's taking the piss because your female, drop him like a stone and tell him in no uncertain terms that hes a cowboy. My best mate took up guitar a few years ago and decided to have lessons but the bloke just showed off with screaming solo's and my mate learned nothing, needless to say he's never had a lessson since and cant get his head around teaching himself which is a shame really as he has some great gear. Look into some self teaching dvds, i was given one to me and its brilliant, i cant afford lessons so i have no option but to teach myself, as for you being to old, utter bollocks, i'm 39 and theres people on here thats a lot older than that so stick with it and most of all enjoy it. mick.
  22. costs nowt to be polite. When im jamming i always let the other guitarists have a crack on my bass as its the only bass there and there always saying cheers or thanks. common courtesy to be polite, but im afraid theres plenty arsewipes out there who expect something for nothing.
  23. Thats rock n roll my friend.
  24. This man has to be on my list as well, very underated
  25. cheers for the input guys, it looks like the project is the way to go. The neck i have is knackered really, bent to hell, truss rod at its tightest but still bent, it might be ok just to test the bass when its finished but then i really need to buy a new neck. The project is in the very early stages ( just primed the body )
