  1. Sounds good, will be cool to see what you do with it And as well as the fancy moves, I may just need a new wardrobe to match...
  2. Warmest thanks to Frank for his massive generosity - I am now the lucky owner of a strap extension for my Steinberger Spirit, which was handmade by Frank and sent to me FOC in the ultimate top spirit of Basschat. I’m extremely grateful for a piece of kit which will put to very good use, it’s far exceeded my expectations. Cheers
  3. Not sure to be honest. This works really well. I tried flipppng it over but it didn’t balance as well. It’s been a long time since I could stand with a bass comfortably so it’s been great to play this afternoon.
  4. @machinehead Thank you brother, it came and it’s on. PM coming your way.
  5. Well it doesn't need changing
  6. I haven't got a Pro, but I played a couple. And up until recently I had a lovely 2015 Std Jazz. For me, aside from the minor (IMO) cosmetic differences the difference is all in the pickups; and on either bass I'd be upgrading them to Fralins, which I did on the Std. The CS and Pro ones are good and different to each other, just not my preferred in either case. Guess you got to hear them or pick the cheaper one if you'll be changing the pickups?
  7. Hi Frank, yes I did forget, then I didn’t, then I did again.... and I feel like a complete and utter ar*e for not getting into contact - has it been this long?!! Big thanks mate, I’d be keen to take you up on this and in the spirit of Mr @kodiakblair donate to you’re fave charity. PM coming your way
  8. For ‘that’ MusicMan sound in funk and rock you can’t go wrong with a standard 3 band EQ StingRay. For more options go for the double pickup version. The 2 band EQ, Classic and Old Smoothie are all very nice too of course, and honestly I just love them all. The 3 band is nice and versatile and has a good amount of zing if you need it. But you may as well wait for the new Special to come out in the next few months, it’ll replace the 2&3 band EQ standards and is a more updated version..doesn’t mean it’ll be better though
  9. Are you anywhere near Bass Direct? They have a good variation right now. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Musicman_stock.html
  10. First off, big respect for your post and aspirations. I work with a wide range of adults with severe to mild learning disabilities and/or autistic. We are lucky to have a team of music therapists - in a nutshell, they have psychology degrees because they are using music to support people who have communication and emotional difficulties in a therapeutic and clinical way (there is so much more to it than that, but like I said, in a nutshell). However, there are many volunteers who come to our organisation to play music either with or to the people we support. I can’t stress enough how VITAL this is to a large amount of people. Again in a nutshell, a staggering number of people in residential care spend large proprotions of their day disengaged and devoid of opportunities. Generally this is due to the social care finanial crisis affecting community outlets and organisation’s support provisions and also because many services can struggle to convert their values into staff behaviour. People that come in to do music engage people, make their day, and often give them something else to look forward to. I’ve also seen this have a great impact on staff, and act as a much needed stress reliever for them too. Less stressed staff equals happier supported people. I could go on and on, especially as this touches on my professional remit, however I’ll end by saying that by going in and playing with or for people you’ll be making a significant contribution to their quality of life outcomes. A good organisation will have a volunteering person/department, will have a meeting with you, get you DBS checked and will make the most of your kind offer. Just reach out and find the right place. Good luck!
  11. I’ll definitely stick with my number 1. I made the mistake of twisting it a few years back and thanks heavens managed to get it back last year.
  12. I hear that, I genuinely have fond memeories of owning it. Glad you found the case and bits. No disrespect meant to the guys at Bass Gear, but a second opinion would be a good option, industry folk have been known to get it wrong. I had shown it to vintage dealers and no one picked up on it back then. Of course I could well be mistaken too.
  13. Just to show how well looked after it was, I found some old photos
  14. Oops, my bad. Sorry pal, I’m getting older and more confused. Black lights are for nitro finishes, I’ve used it loads over the years on my 50’s and 60’s Fenders. Thought I’d done it on the 73 as I was doing everything in reach back then as had a large collection. Silly mistake
  15. Yeah, everything led me to believe it was original. The body was in great condition apart from the obvious ding and the case and case candy were in excellent condition. It appeared mostly unused so I always thought it’d just had an accident in the store or in a players bedroom. It stayed under my bed as I was using an old battered 60’s P Bass live, but I loved getting it out now and again. A black light test shows up any old remaining lacquer (edit - nitro lacquer, so ignore this post!) that may be still present following a respray. It’s an easy test, widely used in the vintage industry. Simple get an ultra violet light and take the bass into a pitch black room, run the light over the neck and look out for dark/black patches, that’ll be the old lacquer.
  16. I actually owned this very bass, but it was a very long time ago, early 00’s. When I owned it, it had the original case and case candy, and it passed the black light test (edit, ignore that, my mistake) with no indications of a respray. But time has passed since then, so it may of been done since, or they innocently got it wrong? Or I got it wrong Either way, it’s a lovely bass that I fondly remember. GLWTS
  17. Have you owned this for long? Do you know more about the neck refinish? Is it visible or did it show up under black light?
  18. Roberto bought all the old Eko stock, and other factories, and has been having fun making various Frankenstein's ever since.
  19. I'm no expert, but I'd be concerned that the tension could be too much for the existing neck join, bracing and whatever bridge or tail piece you use. Overtime you may get issues. Light strings, down tuning a half step and reinforcing where you can would help. As might this? https://www.liutaiomottola.com/instruments/TinozzaAsm.htm Either way, have fun tinkering.
  20. As a 14 year old metal head I was desperate not to get a fender copy. Luckily I found a Hohner Rockwood LX100B
  21. If you buy the £3000 version it comes with a free Custom Shop bass
  22. It’s a cool tool kit and I’m very grateful. My Fender Custom Shop one is very cool tool kit too (and I’ve added to it a fair bit) so it’s good to have options.
  23. Slightly off topic and with no G strings involved I spoke to Strings & Things (UK MusicMan distributor) recently and they said that if I register my Old Smoothie online for warantee I’ll get an extra few months and free gift in the post. The free gift turned out to be a nice tool kit worth about £46 (eek!). Nice touch, very impressed, big thanks to the Gentlemen at S&T 👍
