  1. Just seen this bass on eBay, with a photo of the back of the body. It has the nail marks in the right place for a ‘69. £3k is a bit steep though....
  2. That’s all good to hear from you Guy, I hoped the neck would be great as the necks so often let down the CS basses. I’ll post my thoughts on this thread when it comes. Congrats on the 65 👍
  3. Thanks Guy. Having owned a fair few origins 50s & 60s & custom shops I’m very much looking forward to this one. Especially as the vintage ones are out of my price now and the CS ones, as great as they can be, don’t feel quite so special to me anymore - and are also way too blooming expensive now! Always had a soft spot for an ash bodied Jazz with a blonde finish - sealed the deal.
  4. Sold - arrives Tuesday 😁 Thanks for the tip @marleaux62
  5. Not surprised mate, it’s a perfect partner for your purple Modulus.
  6. The Fender guys didn’t mind, but the Music Man rep (a real salt of the earth and lovely guy) got panicked as I never told him which neck swaps we did, so their records were out. It was ok to swap a neck on same spec gear, the customer was always happy and ended up with a top notch set up too. Anyway @hiram.k.hackenbacker, haven’t you got a credit note at BD? https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/MM_SR4HH_BFR_Pink_Champagne_Sparkle.html
  7. I think as well as not giving a toss, Adrian is naive - you can’t write anything digitally these days and not expect that it could go to social media. Prevention is better than cure, and being professional shouldn’t be a big ask. No way I’d give that guy my hard earned.
  8. The stacked pots each had a resistor attached, which the signal passed through. This was in addition to the capacitor(s) that is still used.

Thanks Mark, for another perfect sale. Always a pleasure
  11. Interesting that, wonder if it’s because of the (obviously expected) issue with fakes?
  12. Very true from my experience, it’d be my 1st choice
  13. Gentleman, this 1960 Jazz Bass chat is just small talk Gibson Les Paul - 1959 - £250,000 😳 https://www.gbase.com/gear/gibson-les-paul-standard-1959-sunburst-2 A LP with humbuckers was made from 1957-1960, then the LP was discontinued until about 1969 I think so less now vintage LP’s were made. People love the 59 neck, and ones with a good flame are very desirable. Rare in a true sense, but totally bonkers.
  14. I think it’s the same thing to be honest, (pre amp) just with added options usually - though not as convenient in your hands.
  15. —-duplicate post—-
  16. Mine was solderless, no fast battery issues. Fairly easy to install, with a delicate squeeze. John always appears approachable if you need to email him,
  17. I’ve owned a fair few 50’s and 60’s Fenders over the years. But I ain’t that person you think we all are, neither were my reasons for buying, as you put it. Same goes for a great deal of people I sold them to when I worked in the guitar trade and spent time specialising in vintage - those were good folks with a passion for history, gear, nostalgia and good vibes Oh yeah, and many were nicely minted
  18. The history of Denmark Street book by Mike Reid has some great info about that area, and some cool stories, from hundreds of years ago onwards - but oh my gosh do you have to read through some damn awful boring content filler to get to it! I’d recommend it though to anyone with nostalgic ties to the area, but you’ve been warned
  19. Typical Fender.... I once had the long G String screw on a straight 78 P Bass 🤣
  20. Bought my first bass there. Pleased for the owners, sounds like a nice lifestyle move away from a very uncertain looking West End.
  21. Indeed that’s true. I’ve also seen truly awful stuff involving old Gibson guitars and Marshall amps, whereby components from all original ‘cheaper’ models as been taken off and put onto players examples of the very desirable expensive models to make them look legit and untouched - even to the point of using NOS 50’s solder and flux - or used to make models appear to be something else, or used on plain old fakes. Same with refinishes. I helped a friend buy an old 50’s Fender bass on BC from a guy who seemed to have a good rep. On the visit I asked if I could take the bass apart, my friend actually declined as he felt safe with the seller. Some time later when he owned it I took it apart and saw clear signs it was redone by the magnificent Clive Brown. I very much suspect the original owner knew full well that was the case, but that’s another story. Its a market that can be quite unpleasant at times.
  22. I didn’t take it that way, must have come across wrong on my text - but actually you’d be wise to question me!!!
  23. Right you are pal. Despite experience giving a pretty good feel and gut feeling about the body and history etc, I wouldn’t want to bet someone else’s money on it (just my own)
