Cheapo crappy strings - anyone found some good one's??????
Thunderbird replied to Shonks's topic in Accessories and Misc
I did a lot of testing of cheapo strings a while back and I found Coban strings pretty OK for the price they are about a fiver delivered from ebay I think I got about 3 months out of a set but to be honest I cant remember -
I play pick only style for this very reason but I tend to find a stubby pick say 2-3mm tends to sound quite close to finger style another thing I use is a thick leather pick my mate gave to me I think those sound just about as close to finger style as you can get IMO

Where no humbucker has gone before... i think..
Before you irreversibly chop the body, consider something like the new EMG passive Geezer Butler P/J set. It has both a P and a split-coil humbucking J, and it comes with easy-fit connectors. Only one solder joint is needed: the bridge plate grounding wire. Big tone. It has great reviews both here and on TalkBass.
This sounds like a plan and is hell of a lot cheaper than butchery -
Wal 4 String Pro Series Passive, late 80s / early 90s - Now £2250
Thunderbird replied to goblin's topic in Basses For Sale
don't want to sound or be argumentative, but just to clarify, its a Mach 2 in a sense that it means its the reissue of the Pro Series bass (second generaton). NOT A Custom series Mach II. This bass is not a Custom Series Mach I (Mk I), which the title misleadingly suggests. However you did mention it was early 80's so it very well may be a Mach 1 of the Pro Series basses, but saying Mk I along with Wal has been synonymous with the Custom series. From Walbasshistory: http://walbasshistory.blogspot.co.uk/p/a-minor-diversion.html "The true chronology of these basses is not entirely clear. A number were certainly issued around 1989 or 1990. However, occasionally the odd bass surfaces which seems to have been build in the early/mid 1980s (around the same time as the Custom series was launched). It may be that this is a design that Wal dabbled with on a number of separate occasions." Prob the only way to tell is by the serial number imprinted on the neck plate. W2XXX suggest early 80's W3XXX suggest late 80-90s here's a Pro from the Wal data bass Had a chance about 2 years ago to nab one of these, but it fell through since I was offline for a couple days since i was in the hospital and the seller went to the next buyer..... would've been cool to add to the collection!!!
That sounded like a right little strop lol -

I have the pups and electrics from my Squier PJ for sale they are in good condition (the pole pieces have a touch of rust on) and everything functions as it should nice sounding pickups the wires from the pickups to the loom and jack socket have been cut for removal but there is plenty of wire left to easily solder back together once installed in your bass £25 delivered by tracked courier:)
