Can you post some more photos of your Jazz?
Now I can. Just had to take some. This bass has a quite interesting history. It was painted white over the original sunburst finish. The former owner then removed the white laquer by literally polishing it away with 10000 grain sanding pads, which took several months.

Another '64 Jazz. This thread is about Jazz Basses, right? Sorry for the P in the picture...
  3.
I'm just curious if anyone is using lower wattage for gigs?
I play an Echolette BS40 (40W valve amp) into a Music Man 212RH cab with EV speakers. Plenty of volume for my needs.
  4.
I'd keep all the changes reversable if I were you.
I'll definitely keep the changes minimal.
  5. Just wanted to share my delight with you guys.... I always tended more to British (HIWATT and Sound City) and German (Echolette) valve amps, so this is the first Ampeg amp I own. Anyway, I find the fliptop amps quite appealing, but the Heritage B-15 reissue is far too expensive for my taste, and old/vintage B-15s are offered rarely and you never know what you get... When I found this SB-12 from a very reliable seller, I couln't resist. The SB-12 never was produced for the international market, but some specimens found their way to Europe. This particular one dates to 1966 acc. to the pot codes and serial number. It's 99% original - including the tubes - and in very good shape. It's almost like new! The former owner modified the AC connection to a three-conductor cable to add a ground wire, which I think is a very sensible modification. The speaker connection is still the original one via the latches. I don't know how reliable these latches are, so I 'm probably going to change this and add an external speaker connection. It sounds so sweet with my '64 Precision! This is the perfect living room/recording/acoustic session rig. I'm really happy.
  6.
There's a pic of the rear of the headstock on their wesbite, not sure if it helps but i'm putting it out there! http://angeldust-gui...n-1974-natural/
Looks totally legit to me, including the Schaller tuners.
  7. Duh, I should've read the thread before posting...
  8.
Here's a better pic. I think the bass is fine, however, I just don't think the tuners are original, that's all. https://www.flickr.c...8/shares/7Z3PTJ CB
These tuners look like the Schallers Fender used in the mid/late 70's, not like the tuners made in-house from late 60's to mid 70's. However, to be 100% sure, a picture of the rear of the headstock would be helpful. That doesn't mean the tuners on this particular bass are not original. There is no certain date when Fender started to use Schaller tuners. For every change in hardware there is a transition period where both the "old" and the "new" type were used.
  9.
I have not enough money for real Fender so I thought - Limelight?
Mexican Fenders are in the Limelight price range.
  10. A little sound sample of the Jack & Danny (teehee, what a great brand name) Bass Ukulele: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHYqB29WwjA
  11. That thing is tiny and sounds huge. This is the shortest way to describe it. In more detail: The fret ends are not finished. That's annoying. It's only 129,- Euros, but I'd rather pay 159,- and get smooth fingerboard edges! Alright, so I have to smooth out the fret ends myself. Fortunately I have everything I need on hand. There's no user manual, so it took a while to find out where the batteries for the preamp go. Batteries are inluded, that's a plus. Tuning takes a while, too, since the it needs much more turns of the tuning gear to tune to the right note. The onboard tuner seems to work fine. Unplugged, the J&D sound reasonably bassy but quite silent, which is to be expected. The Thunderguts feel very rubbery and a little sticky. Maybe this can be fixed with a little bit Super F plastic surface cleaner. The electric sound is really good. Very acoustic, fat lows, the attack is somehow "bouncing" - I don't know how to describe it. The sound is closer to upright bass, not so much aoustic bass guitar. Totally unique and very cool. I'll keep that little bugger.
  12.
@Tweedledum - be interesting to hear what the J&D sounds like, how big it is, etc.
It's smaller than the H.B. Kahuna, which is more like a 1/2 scale guitar, as I understand. The J&D is similar to a Kala UBass. Soundwise, i don't know. I never played a Kala. The J&D has a B-Band pickup, if that counts for something. As I wrote, I'll pick it up tomorrow and will share my impressions.
  13. You guys seen THIS yet? I ordered one. Going to unbox it tomorrow and give it a good test ride.
  14. Aaaah, holidays. That was my favourite subject in school.
  15.
Congrats. I remember that lovely '64 LPB used to be at the Guitar Center in Totowa (NJ). There is some sticker residue at the back of the body where the previous owner attempted to cover up the buckle wear with masking tape and store manager explained me he was able to remove most of it. In Jan 2014 they sent the bass to a guitar show in LA (NAMM) and it never came back. It then re-surfaced in Sweden with Anders Anderson who I suspect acquired it at NAMM. Enjoy that great bass.
Another piece of history of this wonderful bass. Greatly appreciated, thanks! I contacted the GC store manager in Totowa and asked him for any more info about the previous (maybe the original?) owner of the bass. I'd really love to get in contact with the original owner.
  16. I never knew there was a Pre-CBS thread around here Very nice basses! Pity that many of the older pics are gone.... I take the opportunity to show my '64 Lake Placid P once more....
  17.
That's my yob bass right there.
Well, then you and the LPB are 7 years older than I am.... Do I feel awkward playing a bass that's older than me? No, not really.
  18. Thanks guys! I really love playing this bass. It sounds even better than my '65 sunburst (which went where the LPB came from). The Sunburst has very sweet, vivid mids, but when I A/B'd it with the LPB, it turned out that the Sunburst lacks a little bottom end. The LPB is the better bass in all respects except the price... But still, for me, it's money well spend.
  19. What can I say. This is as good as it gets. All original 1964 Precision, Lake Placid Blue, original case. I'm so happy. This is what I was looking for, and thanks to a friend who helped me find it, a dream came true.
  20. VERY fine example of a 70s 4-bolt Jazz! Beautiful indeed. Is the neck straight? (My '74 4-bolt had quite a ski jump....)
  21. SYNQ comes to mind: http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/GBP/Synq-Audio-Digit-2K2-Endstufe-2x-1100-Watt-/-4-Ohm/art-PAH0008521-000
  22.
So what was your first Precision?
My very first bass was a Fender Mustang, sporting a splitcoil pickup, but shorter scale length.
Have you had a few?
- Hondo with a splitcoil neck pickup and a double J bridge pickup (no pic available) - Fenix P/J (no pic available) - Fender US Std Precision (2000) - Fender American Vintage '62 Reissue Sunburst (~ 2008) - Fender Precision 1975 Black/Maple - Limelight '63 Precision Shoreline Gold (Yes, I had this one, and I hate to say it had to move on in favour of .... well, see below under "What are you GASing for"...)
What's your current flavour?
1965 Precision:
What are you GAS'ing for?
I always wanted a pre-CBS custom colour Precision. This one will soon be mine:
  23. Ooooh, I might finally get my hands on that thing .... PM'ed!
