1. Yeah, I remember reading an article about that night. Lots of sound troubles, the bass cut out and he just lost it. I remember the article quoting him saying he really regrets smashing it up as it was a gem of a bass, but he just saw red.
2. Just bear in mind that you *really* need more muscial variation in your sets and I'm not just talking about the use of FX. Having lots of different riffs is okay, but if you want to appeal to people like me I'd appreciate it if Bass and Drum acts would vary the music a lot more. Either instrument taking the lead, different timings, different use of melodies and harmonies with/against the vocals. Different sounding songs I've been put off some technically proficient bass and drum acts before simply because all the songs sound the same when you're having a casual listen.
3. I have both of mine slightly rolled off my my Jazz bass as the pups sound nicer like that, it's normally around 75%/95% forward/back split, with my Aerodyne I have to roll off the p-pup otherwise it just overrides the j-pup. T-Bird is similar to the Jazz.
4. Sounds like EQ issue. Start with flat or a sadface and go from there.
5. You there! Dive into this section: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=12
6. Chances are that no matter what you use to paint it with you'll need to finish it with it a number of clear coats (probably laquer) to make it a bit more permanent and durable, so you might as well do the design in acrylics. Drop WaynePunkDude an email, he paints all his pickguards as checkerboards, ask him what he's used and this methods for finishing.
7. What are you buying it for? If it's just to play and not for investment you might as well buy a new '09 MIA P-Bass, as it'll probably be better than most '70's P-basses and you'll be saving money on over inflated prices.

Drooltime

That looks terrible.
9. I haven't played there but I did see The Enemy play there 3ish years ago before they went "big" so to speak. Not a bad gig place. I think there's some lights and iirc there's a PA hanging from the roof, but I haven't been in a few years so don't quote me on it. I was sober but it's all a bit fuzzy. Good gig tho.
10.
Oh very good. I like that a lot. Read somewhere that violin is so effective a solo instrument cos it shares frequencies with the human voice (or something). Maybe all solo instruments need to be in that region. Not many voices down thaar. fatback
Was just about to say a similar thing in response to Doddy regarding the voicing of the instruments. Human hearing is limited, and our hearing is geared more towards the mid and higher ends of the spectrum. Bass isn't in the favoured range. Besides, I think this thread has gone on a tangent from the OP who was asking about what is better for the bass to focus on: the bass carrying the music or the music carrying the technique to whether the bass can/is an expressive instrument.
11. I still don't get why people love it like they do at this stage and keep supporting it, it's been a Simon Cowell cash cow since it's inception.
12. I don't like the super skilled fret w***ery. I appreciate the skill in the technique, but quite often bassists seem to lack the other skill of using the techniques musically. Combine it together and you'll get a good bass track, I'll cite Flea and RHCP as an example, busy and technically complex basslines, but they pretty much always form part of the larger picture of the song. They fit. Some of the stuff I hear leaves me cold, which I why I turn off if I get a solo w***ery clip chucked my way on this forum. There's no reason why bass can't drive the song forward (random examples here include "Peaches" by The Stranglers and "London Calling" by The Clash) where the bass is the main melodic hook or main instrument, but it's still part of the greater song. I suppose I'm trying to say I'm against songs being written for fret w***ery but I'm for songs that have been written with the inclusion of w***ery in mind. If you can see where I'm going with that; the latter means the techniques are woven into the song as a support, the former is songs that are written around the technique. Almost all the former ones will have solo sections in the song from the get go. Bass isn't suited to that at all.
13. Blimey, whoever filed those saddles really made a pigs ear of it didn't they? Ouch.
14.
Well now we've got the ball rolling...
I concur! Hop to it Andy!
15. Well now, if AndyTravis said he was going to do a comparison in the face of the fact that some people think there's no difference there would have been dicussion fodder wouldn't there?
16. Without trying to be a git....er, what's the topic of discussion or interesting bit of information you're imparting that will provoke discussion on a discussion board? Now, if it had pictures and happened to be in gear porn it would be another mater.........
17.
This could be used to great effect... Buy another 'P'bass and when confronted with the "What have you bought another bass for", comments....you can smile sweetly and say, "It's not a new one.....I just had the red one refinished, because I didn't like the colour....."
Dangerous though, because if she's money savvy she'll follow up with "how much did that cost then?" which'll put you in a whole world of pain if she has a vague idea of respray costs (ie, in the hundreds).
18. Natural jazz, rosewood with blocks?! Lovely!
19.
Hi, I need a Speakon to Speakon cable to connect an Aguilar AG500SC amp head to an Aguilar DB112 cab. I've gotten confused looking at all the options, impedence, ohms etc. I'm trying to prevent a situation where I destroy the new arrivals with the wrong cable (physically or sound wise). Does it even matter - will any Speakon work? http://www.aguilaramp.com/gfx/products_det...0sc_back_lg.jpg - "Minimum Lead: 4 ohms" ? Thanks.
If you're confused about impedance (Ohms and such), have a gander at the stickie here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=135 Also, +1 for Obbm (bassic) cables.

My collection!

That does look much better. Needs more puppets though.
21. Some people don't give a hoot though do they? They're the same people who on the way to/from clubs when pissed kick wing-mirrors off cars because it's not theirs and it's "fun". There's only a few people I'd lend anything too, I used to get a bit tetchy with my own family forgodsakes but that's passed, mainly because I've grown up and we all like sharing now.
22. I bought one of his Les Paul guitar copies off him. Plywood cheapy thing. Also took nearly a month to arrive. Isn't too bad, although I'm basically replacing everything but the neck. Even that might go because the heel might be misshapen after I sanded it. f*** it, I'm just going to buy a new guitar.
