  1. It’s a weird thing when buying headphones, it’s a bit of a gamble and you can tell pretty much instantly if you like them or not. And they differ so much.
  2. Nice, would love this amp!
  3. I've been a headphone bassist for a long time now - at home or in the studio I always use headphones (along with a backbeat and/or a teacup bass board) and live I often use in ears too. I few conversations here got me thinking I had maybe got too comfortable with my usual cans, which are some Bose AE2W units with the wireless bit removed. I've been really happy with them and know what I hear is what I sound like. Recently though I read through some threads on here and got talking to my friend who's studio I normally play at and mentioned the Beyerdynamic DT770 range. Turns out he uses them for drum monitoring and in fact last time I was there I actually wore them when I had a go on the drums. So in classic Basschat fashion I ordered some (80 ohm version), despite being perfectly happy with my Bose cans and they arrived today. Pleasingly, my basses sound pretty much the same through these as the others. However I am able to turn my treble up past normal limits without it sounding as harsh, which is particularly noticeable on my jazz bass. There's so much treble on tap with that bass that I don't think anyone could ever use it on max, but even at extreme settings it seems more musical. Just looking at the What HiFi review of the Bose units seems to back this up, where they say they 'struggle to stay poised at higher (and lower - although I've never had an issue) frequencies' but otherwise deliver a detailed sound. The main difference is that I feel there is more 'space' around the music when I play along. It's hard to describe but it's a bit like I'm playing along with the music spread out over a wider soundstage and I can as a result her what I'm doing (badly) and it doesn't all sound so centred. It's marginal but after a/b testing both headphones (I am able to have both plugged in so I can switch quickly) it really became noticeable to the extent that using the Bose units felt like a step backwards. I think I'd have been perfectly happy with the old cans forever and I know the law of diminishing returns is never more obvious than in hifi gear (and the Beyerdynamic and Bose units are about the same price even though the Bose ones are long since discontinued) but it's an incremental step forwards which I'm really happy with, as I wasn't expecting to feel like I needed to change anything. The build quality and comfort are better, certainly. Nice thick cable and solid construction. They're a little bit tighter on my head than the others but I've just been playing for an hour and a half and quickly you forget they're on. And I think they sound fuller at lower volume which is nice because I tend to have my levels pretty low. Thanks for the recommendation BC!
  4. Random thread resurrection bit I've been playing along with this clip with my other basses to make a comparison video Interesting to read this - I didn't notice and now see what you mean but it highlights how I just play along with things without knowing what I'm doing. I keep meaning to learn more!
  5. Hey listen if you aren’t interested in a thread there’s no need to comment! 😂 (I’ll show myself out)
  6. Lovely! I've never noticed before how the Sabre bridge is a mixture of the Stingray and G&L saddle lock bridge!
  7. Nice idea but I prefer a vintage model
  8. Sorry you'll have to write that down and pop it in the post
  9. That was my impression too - however I find these superb for bass, and know that what I hear through my headphone rig at home sounds as near as exactly like what I sound like when recorded and played back through various systems. Musically I find these pretty neutral; they replaced a set of Grado SR80s that I gave up on because my wife could hear them when I was using them in the lounge and I found hairs getting into the diaphragm made a rattling noise and they needed constant plucking!
  10. Xxxx Xxxx to you thank you very much
  11. Here’s my signature strap 😂
  12. I’ve thought about that and may still do it. I haven’t had time to look into it though but no reason why it couldn’t be done, if I don’t get enough preorders then they don’t get made
  13. I recommend going on Etsy and finding someone to make you one the exact length you want. I had a button hole either side of my chosen length so it has some adjustability if I need it but like you I like the simplicity of a fixed strap without a buckle
  14. I don’t think it will make a difference to a buyer.
  15. Tbh I don’t really notice much of a difference between digging in and slapping. When I get really comfortable with an instrument and a bassline my hand moves around and I’ll slap some notes and use all the expression I can muster - in the mix that doesn’t always sound like ‘slap bass’ per se. I think ultimately when it feels natural it sounds natural.
  16. You said in your last ‘might sell this’ thread that it’s a ‘94. You can post the advert now
  17. It’s a technique so I like it as much as I like the song. I think it has more impact when it’s a tasty finger style bassline with a few ‘pops’ in but I also like full slap stuff if it’s a good song. Trouble is most people think the technique alone makes a good song, which of course it doesn’t.
  18. Oh my that’s a very spesh doggo
  19. It’s really annoying. The repair guy says it might be my power supply that’s frying it somehow (I use a 1spot with Joyo ZGP on each pedal, which works perfectly with everything else). If it’s true then the pedal is a liability if it can’t take a slight fluctuation. I tried two other supplies and got the same noise which disappeared when I tapped the pedal. Still no dry signal on wah side. On a positive note it makes a good paperweight.
  20. Ok got it back. Plugged it in using one spot supply. Noise still there. Constant deep cracking when the wah is engaged. Have it a gentle tap and voila it’s fine... but still no dry signal coming through with wah engaged. Octave/synth side working and sounding fine. Think I might smash it up with a hammer
  21. Hi there. See point 9 here. Cheers https://www.basschat.co.uk/faq/
  22. I’m still waiting for his solicitor to prove they’re real
  23. I wanted cans that give me the sound of my bass 'on record' rather than some that would let me hear things that I wouldn't be able to hear when my bass is recorded. As such I don't want headphones that produce an extended low end or top end either. I have been using Bose AE2w for years now (obviously with a cable not bluetooth). I know with confidence that what I hear when I'm playing at home is exactly what my bass sounds like when it's recorded. The design of the headphones means they can cope with full range bass without rattling or distortion, they're easy to drive and are capable of going way too loud. Being closed back means I am isolated from the acoustic noise of my bass (previously I had tried some open back but found I could hear the flaking of my bass over the pure signal) They're probably quote old now and I'm sure there are newer versions which are easier to get hold of, but if I lost mine I would certainly find another pair. in fact I may pick some up as a spare just In case!
  24. It sticks to the top of the forum category, like the rules/FAQ threads.
  25. Cheers thanks for supporting the site 🍻
