1. As a youth I was in my bedroom with my girlfriend. My mum shouted up the stairs "Dinner's ready". I shouted back "Coming".
2.
I'd love to see it, Norris I don't remember it from last year, but I am just about to start on an own-design cello, loosely based on this yew/mahogany violin I did a couple of years ago - looks nice, plays like s**t - so would be very interested in terms of the weight, balance, etc... I know an upright bass is somewhat different to a cello, but the CofG issues, etc, are likely to be similar. If you're stuck for space, don't worry but if not I'd be really interested. Andy
I'll definitely bring it then It was quite amusing last year to see people hovering round but not daring to have a go - although there were a few brave souls that tried it and had their GAS ignited Edit: And bring your violin - I'm interested in seeing any of your wonderful creations
3. I just thought - would anybody like me to bring my Stagg EUB again? It's a bit of a pain to cart around so I'll happily leave it at home, but if there's enough interest I don't mind bringing it
4.
Very important to me too. We do a lot of weddings and corporate gigs. We dress smart on stage, so having a cab with a rusty grill and ripped/chipped tolex would look out of place. As much as I actually like them, roadworn basses are a no go too. I much prefer classic styling too, rather than something covered in flashing LEDs.
Ha ha. That reminded me of a corporate gig we did many years ago. The drummer owned the PA and decided the cabs were looking scruffy - so gave them a coat of matt black from rattle cans in the car park about an hour before we played. Yes, they stank to high heaven!
5.
Has Feng Shui replaced Rock'n'Roll..?
Yes, but it's no good for metal
6. Yes. A 4-wire humbucker will give you the option to connect it any way you like. There probably won't be huge amount of difference between the top and bottom coil in single mode as they are close together i.e. in the same package. Most of the neck/bridge tonal differences comes from the physical distance between them (for similar specification pickups such as on a Jazz).
7. Call me shallow if you like but I can't stand the yellow highlights on Markbass gear (makes it look cheap imho) and I'm not a fan of the aluminium cones in Hartke cabs
8. Fender Rumble v3. Not a black box. Looks and sounds great imho There again I've had a few black boxes too in the past.
9. As we've had a couple drop out I'll bring my Rumble combo as originally planned - and some headphones
10. Now get some headphones
11. I'd be tempted to replace it at the earliest opportunity. It probably won't last very long
12. Stick some castors on your keyboard stand
13. Maybe it's your ears
14. I've used 45-105 for years. A good balance between "heft" and compliance imho. I used EBs for ages but have recently switched to Prosteels - very similar tbh Edit: and keep the action mid-low so I can give them some welly
15. Well done for popping your cherry Keep at it!
16. I'll leave my Rumble in the car. I'll drag it out on request - will that do? Edit: I know a few people were interested last year as it was a fairly new bit of kit. I assume most that are interested are more familiar with them now, but it won't take a second to set up if you ask
17. A multimeter can measure various things in electrical circuits, one of which being continuity i.e. can electricity flow between the two points where you place the probes
18.
Can you get a Road Worn Ferrari?
Very easily. Just park it in the supermarket car park for 10 minutes and some ar*e will scrape it / open their door on it
19. Skinny for me. My currently favoured Squier P-bass Special has a neck like a matchstick. My Ric is a lot wider but not too deep.
20. £20 a plate for the odd one-off sounds like a bargain to me
21. It sounds to me like the truss rod has freed itself from the anchor point. That will most likely involve removal of the fretboard to fix unfortunately. Find a local experienced luthier to take a look. As it's a bolt on neck, a replacement may work out cheaper - so I'd also explore that option
There's a serious gap in the market there.
Wear a dressing gown then!
23.
Yeah, do you think I'll look mad carting a 1981 Washburn through neck bass into superdrug or boots's down the fingernail polish aisle? The wife seems to have a great selection of reds, purples and blacks - no Browns though. Wonder if the nail lady she has round (seemingly every week) has some brown pots spare... Heard that the superglue helps keep the finish hard/protected.
Get yourself an Avon book
24. Nice save and a good job on the impromptu inlay work. Those side dots look great too. /Adds late-night changes to the NOT todo list
25. As a bit of a coda on this, the lacquer has cracked/crazed in a couple of places. Andy isn't happy with it so he wants it back to refinish again. He's a top bloke is Andy! Btw, whichever BCer has the Ibanez Musician with Andy at the moment - that's a gorgeous bass! I'm wondering what all the knobs do though
