Unpopular Musical Opinions: What are Yours?
Clarky replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
ELO. Can't stand their pompous over-produced Beatles-influenced music yet I seem to be in a tiny minority on BC, where adulation seems to be order of the day whenever the name comes up. Bah humbug, waves stick etc -

Although I can thoroughly recommend (for those who like a quirky musically-related read) 'Nina Simon's Gum', authored by Bad Seed, Warren Ellis. It is literally about a piece of her chewing gum but an engaging read. Believe it or not! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nina-Simones-Gum-Memoir-Things/dp/0571365639/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= -

Dissing NWOBHM? Surely everyone remembers the classic 'Angel Witch' by ermmm 'Angel Witch' with the unforgettable chorus: "You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch" Or the classic 'Name, rank and serial number' by Fist* * cough, I have this on vinyl somewhere in my mother's house -

Does "heft" matter if your gigs are usually PA assisted?

Does "heft" matter if your gigs are usually PA assisted?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Amps and Cabs
Lead guitarist plays a Gibson Les Paul through a loud Marshall (or other valve-driven, he has several) stack -
My amp (a class D Ampeg PF500, through a Barefaced Big Baby 2) sounded a bit lacking in oomph, for want of a better word ... OK heft, I said it ... at my blues rock band rehearsal at the weekend. Up against a valve Marshall and a second valve-driven rhythm guitar and solid (but far drom Bonham-esque) drums. Got me to agonising about whether I need a valve amp, a valve-fronted hybrid, a punchy class A/B amp or a higher wattage class D amp. @Happy Jack, who has gigged more than I ever will, said - as the voice of reason - that once through a PA it wouldn't matter a fig. And its true that most - but not all - of my band's gigs are PA assisted. So am I basically worrying about a "problem" that doesn't exist in practice? Stick with what I have? Your thoughts on a postage stamp please 😁

To counter my negative, contrarian post on The Who, my most played artist of the last decade is Vicente Amigo, the master nuevo flamenco guitarist. However many times I post up links to his music on the forum, it basically results in tumbleweed! -

Sacrilege on BC but I think The Who are utter pants. Ahead of (for me) the Rolling Stones in the list of the most overrated bands ever (at least I like Gimme Shelter, can't think of a single Who song I like) -
I bought this beauty from the forum 10 years ago. Lovely golden/honeyed colour, some long-since fixed cracks and the neck was reset before I owned it (original FS thread here, explaining provenance and luthier work carried out: Sounds deep, full and fantastic and is fitted with a David Gage Realist pickup and Thomastik Spirocore (medium gauge) strings. Why sell? Well I got the opportunity to buy back my very first DB from Happy Jack which has big sentimental value, even if its a lower quality plywood Zeller, plus I barely ever gig DB these days, so my flatback has basically become a beautiful ornament requiring occasional dusting! Collection only from SW13 London (Barnes) and priced more than fairly at £2500, which is £500 less than the £3k I paid a decade ago. I can supply a basic Hidersine gigbag (brand new replacement as mice ate my other one ....) or maybe you prefer to bring your own heavier duty gigbag to transport it?

Bought some DB strings and all was good!!! Many thanks and ATB, Clarky

The culprit has been identified

Fender Rat-ocaster Always preferred it to the single coil Jerry-caster

Is it good for Rat-tle?

Same guy just posted 'Class D cheese - diabolical' Obviously a former TalkVole member

Not having gigged DB since 2019, my gigbag has been in storage in my garage since then. Imagine my surprise when I pulled it yesterday to discover that it has been half-eaten and ravaged by mice. I feel a new commercial opportunity for mice-relic'd bass gear under the Road(ent)worn banner. Kerboom tish

Reminds me of JPJ's triple omega Alembic. Congrats on something a bit different and not Fender shaped

Serendipity: Thomastik Jazz Roundwounds.
Clarky replied to fretmeister's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thats what I found, quieter even than DR nickel rounds like Sunbeams and Pure Blues. I suspect that is the basis of the flat's comparison in marketing spiel but they do sound like mellow rounds to me -

Super Twin is 3cm wider (48cm vs 45cm). And yes I have OCD about amp overhangs!!!
