1. Here's some Joe Osborne pick + Jazz + flats action from the wonderful Glen Campbell/Jimmy Web combination http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QynK5IDalmA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsHUgpSxMoI
2. Too many nice basses not selling so I'm withdrawing and will try to find other ways to raise some dosh
3. Don't know if anyone else has highlighted this but, if I try to send a PM on my iPad, the message box pops up but is cut off on the top left hand side ... so you cannot click in it or type in it
4. this should have sold ages ago, its a beaut - unfortunately the same is true of many others FS at the moment
5. Jerry bought a set of Lollar Jazz pickups off me. Totally smooth deal with an honest trustworthy BC'er. Deal with confidence
6. Hi there. Forum rules say you must post a price in a FS ad (as its not an eBay auction system). Pics always help too! Especially for a beautiful bass like a blueburst 4003
7. Thanks Rick and a morning bump from me. Here's more of Herbie (some old pics from Wes, the bass is now wearing Rotosound TruBass black nylon flats, like its inspiration):
8. I really like the concept! Not sure I would like playing it, given your description about intonation and action, but its cool as ....
9. I had a Vintage plus Orange AD200B. That would be loud enough for any realistic situation, I would think. Only thing is, the Orange weighed 50-ish pounds and hurt my back ... but then I am a creaking 40-something with a previous slipped disc. Looked the dogs doodahs (some of those amps you mentioned would look 'lost' on top of a Vintage) and would be very cool for someone younger and stronger in the back department. Orange AD200B heads keep popping up on BC for about £700-800 second hand so not exorbitant
10. Check this out from Station Music's Fender CS range. Phwoar!
11. For Pete http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vVD8GNG-WE&feature=related
12.
You couldn't bloody wait, could you?
Based on your lot beating mine 8-2, Arsenal will lose 24-8 to Man City! Back on topic, this is a phenomenally powerful and easily manageable cab that someone should snap up
13.
I've played through this cab and it's fantastic. Obviously you can deal with Jack with the upmost of confidence!! Si
I've also played through this splendid cab but I wouldn't go near Jack with a barge-pole. Kidding! Totally trustworthy dude, but just don't mention the Manchester derby
14.
Am I missing something here, Clarky? That first track you posted sounds a mess. I can't pick out the bass part, Doesn't sound very 'melodic' to me.
I wonder if the link has changed? That is much shorter than the version on the album and the sound quality is pants
15. Here is the build thread, in case this is of interest http://basschat.co.uk/topic/117779-herbie-flowers-jazz-bass-replica/page__hl__herbie__fromsearch__1
16.
Norman Watt Roy admits that contrary to the belief that he played on The Clashs recordings, Paul Simenon in fact played on all of The Blockheads recordings, whilst Norman concentrated on his painting.
You'll never get that job as headline writer for The Sun, Lozz! How about: CETERA CONFIRMED AS BASSIST FOR STEPS COMEBACK TOUR
17. Very impressed Bilbo. Intonation sounded good to me. You are a talented DB player
18. Coolio. As per my OP, I think its a real looker. As you had discussions with them re authenticity, what's with the lollypop tuners out of interest?
19. The Steed Herbie Flowers Jazz is available again as the buyer has run into issues (nothing to do with the bass, by the way). As noted elsewhere, I am lucky to get my stolen car back but the whole episode will cost me somwhere between one and two grand. Hence this lovely bass is FS. I paid £1400 for the bass as it has £800 of original early '60s Fender parts (listed below). I would like as close as possible to what I paid although I will accept a small discount as the Fender decal (which was applied to the top of the headstock) has partly scraped away (although this does make it look authentic and it could easily be replaced for a fiver). In-line with the original bass which inspired it, it is wearing chunky black nylon Rotosound TruBass strings on which make it play more like a DB and which have a rich, thick thumping type sound with virtually no treble - as per Walk on the Wild Side, Space Oddity etc (on which the original was played). Its not one for slapping or fast finger funk, unless you swap the strings over. Specs: 61 Tuners + 62 bushings and screws 62 bridge + screws All screws from 60/61 including the neck plate screws String tree 61 with screw 59 thumbrest with screws Fullerton 83 RI jazz stack knobs and early bell plate Hand wired repro harness Suhr Vintage spec handwound pickup Neck from a 62RI Fender Jazz but re-profiled by Wes Weighs 8.77 pounds Picture below is one of Wes' from his build thread and was taken before he applied the headstock decal I don't have a bass-sized box and I don't want to put Mrs C through waiting in all day for Interparcel pickup so this is meet-up/collected only in London
20. I read that as 1800 pounds and I think I know what your answer would be (same as mine would be in your shoes)
21. STINGRAYPETE SAYS I WAS WRONG STINGRAYS ARE SH*TE
22. MUSICMAN20 SATISIFIED BY QUALITY CONTROL
23. There's a lovely 62J in surf green in Station Music's list of CS Fenders (and a v nice fiesta red too). Shame about the prices http://www.station-music.de/bass/fender_stocklist.html
24. Some pics from older threads to help this along
25. I played in two three-piece bands before joining my current (cough) 14-piece One was a death/thrash metal band and the other a punk band. It was important to have a bass sound that cut through (especially in the case of guitar solos or the guitar dropping out), so I went for Sansamp BDDI pedal or valve-fronted heads. The main thing though IMHO is that the guitarist has the right tone and lines. If he plays a weedy, unaffected Telecaster for example, it can't help but sound sparse as a three-some. There's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't work well as a trio. Plus its easier for rehearsals and you get paid better!
