1. Just to be clear there are also black nylon tapewounds from D'Addario and GHS (maybe fender too IIRC) and these come with lower gauge than TruBass. Some people love these (eg, Kiogon I think swears by GHS) but I think the mass of TruBass makes them as DB-like as you can get
2. Rotosound TruBass will give a more upright sound as will La Bella black nylon tapewounds, but the latter are very hard to get in the UK right now. TruBass are unusual to the uninitiated as they are very thick (65-115), plasticky when unamplified, and probably need higher action than many would prefer. They won't sound exactly like an upright but they will sound more like an upright than normal flats or half-rounds (esp when plucked around the end of the fingerboard) and will certainly sound enough like one to fool some people.
3.
wasn't that up for sale a few weeks ago? I saw it somewhere, maybe not basschat
Nope, its owned by Mr_Bassman (Keith) who still seems to be enjoying it a great deal
4.
Loving the look of the 1x12 combo.
thats the one that caught my eye too. Its refreshing - as a post above stated - that they have gone with an original design approach.
5. I unfortunately can't make either gig (Mrs C has "plans" as No. 1 son arrives back from Brum Uni mid-evening to [s]get his washing done and get a free dinner in a restaurant[/s] see his parents) However, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dick Venom and The Terrortones as a really fun and engaging live act which you will not forget in a hurry! That s a good thing by the way Wish I could get to see Nige/silddx' band soon
6. Guilty. Several times. Think I owned my beat-up CIJ 70s Precision 'Sid' at least twice and have owned my current Alleva-Coppolo 5'er twice now. I also owned a 2009 US Jazz twice (Beedster owned that one at one point as well!) I've also just bought Beedster's (recurring theme here) Takamine B10, having foolishly sold my old Takamine B10 to dave/essential tension. Need I go on?
What sort of tonal character does the villex circuit and pickups produce?
try this http://www.villex.com/sounds.html
8. Based on recent Wal selling prices I would say thats priced a grand too high. It had better be a pretty high profile "professional musician" to attract any premium at all in the current market. IMHO its worth around £2500 +/-
9. and I'll have the rs 2 please PM'd
10. This link sets out the upgrades to version 2 http://www.ghservices.com/products/pickups/
11. Looks like this is heading back to the States. Sale pending
12. That some cool (and early) slapping
13. Orange just emailed me to say this thing weighs 24kg - about 52 pounds. Surprises me as it felt heavier than that, albeit it was a one-hand lift at an awkward angle. I still think a 2x10, lighter and cheaper combo would have been preferable. I shan't be buying this one hwereas I might have gone for a 2x10 combo
14. Here he is in his later years, still same unorthodox technique http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zm-veVCBplc
15.
bet he didn't eat his heart out over pickups, amps & strings
Well, if BassChat had been around in the 1930s/40s it might have been different .....

I don't have you down as a natural wood type, Wayne (barring the 75RI Jazz that you've always said you lusted after). Is this getting the WPD re-fin treatment? I've not seen a surf green Warwick yet ....
17. I am an occasional fan of a bit of gipsy jazz and was interested to watch some old YT clips of Louis Vola, Django Reinhardt's bass player and the main man on DB in the genre. If you watch the clips he plucks way up the neck (around the neck join) with an unusual clawing/slapping motion and his left arm position is also about as unorthodox compared with the 'classical' position. Just goes to show its the music that counts, not the technique! Well it made me feel better any way
18. While I love the looks of this, I tried a quick one-hand lift at the Orange stand at LBS and it seems quite heavy for a compact neo-equipped combo (my guess is 60+ pounds). I'm not so sure going with a 2x12 was the right move. I would have though 2x10 would appeal to more and would have been appreciably lighter .. and cheaper (they retail at £848 - see link below). I am assuming it sounds just like a Terror Bass head with no extra bells and whistles given the control layout http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Orange-TB500C-Terror-Bass-Combo~ID~15121.asp
19. Just bought Chris' Takamine B10 - beautiful instrument and chris as ever was a joy to deal with. This in fact marks my 250th trade with Beedster* * not really but it feels like it!
20. On its way to BC'er Woodo (aka Arttu) in Sweden
21. Thanks Chris. I just popped round to Jack's and got my old one back. Now which end do you hold?
22. Why not make an offer for one fixing, just for a laugh. OK, I know life's too short!
23. Thanks Keith, the bass in the band in question is a lot more demanding than Rattlin Bone (faster, busier) so we will see. Its a really good band though so fingers crossed
24.
The only box I have that would take that is probably far larger than you'd want to use.
But if it could be butchered and taped together it could be just the ticket If you are happy to offload it, I'll take it mate
