1.
heh, but did anyone ever give you that message Clarky?
Fair point, well made
2. Most of my favourite bass players only ever played one bass for all/most of their career (Jamerson. Martyn Casey, Simenon, Danny Thompson on DB). Message there
3. Most of my favourite bass players only ever played one bass (Jamerson. Martyn Casey, Simenon, Danny Thompson on DB). Message there
4. All The Queen's Marmosets
5. OK, not a huge amount of interest after the initial flurry. I would potentially do a p/x or straight trade (depending on value) against a bass that I could sell on, so would have to be a mainstream and/or quality brand (nothing boutique) that has a high chance of finding a new owner PDQ. Four-string only (as I would end up playing it, if it took time to shift), something like a Fender custom shop or vintage Jazz, Musicman Stingray in a regular colour (sunburst, natural), Sadowsky Jazz, that sort of thing. No fretlesses as I have a bunch of those already. Try me, I can only say no at worst!
6. A propos of nothing in particular, here is a lovely performance of the haunting 'Shipbuilding' by Robert Wyatt. Wriiten by Clive Langer and Elvis Costello (who recorded a less beautiful version IMHO), it might not be a song that will resonate with the younger crowd but at the time of the Falklands War it was very harrowing and heartfelt. Has Mark Bedford (Bedders) on double bass too, which is a rarity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6T9qp9XbRY
7.
Daryl is clearly modelling himself on a Clarky hair cut yeah?
Style icon, oh yes
8. Just back and happy to report that the Jetsonics get better each time I see them (this is the third time I believe). They have a lot of gigs under their belts now and it shows in how close-knit they are on stage. Highly recommended!
9.
BTW, the vid in the OP is fabulous! And that's one of the coolest bassists I've ever seen.
+1 only just seen this, what a great clip and some really fantastic musicianship all round, not just the dude on bass
10. Bump! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seAPCSbDkXs
11. Good food at the Half Moon
12. I'm coming along, so who else will be there? Lozz? Anyone else?
13. To all London (and vicinity) DBers, get your tickets in for this. Danny Thompson playing a duo gig with bluegrass guitarist/singer Darrell Scott at the Half Moon, Putney on 25 July (same venue my band headlined at last night ) http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/172538369562769/
14. Bought a Fender A/E bass off John. Very friendly comms, very well packed and exactly as described. All good!
15. Thanks to Mr Low End Bee for coming along last night - not the biggest crowd (I guess a freezing Thursday night doesn't tempt the punters out, and we had a lot of no-shows) but we played well and really enjoyed it
16. Update: my other mate cancelled (50th birthday celebration so I guess its acceptable ...) So second ticket going spare. PM me before mickeyboro does
17. Last shout, esteemed BC colleagues
18. V Sad. Here he is at the Marquee in 1980, a gig I am pretty sure I attended http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI-LoFQeSNc
19. I've noticed DB string prices going up recently. Suddenly Thomann has stopped selling Spirocore Mittel/Mediums - which is odd for one of the reference strings in the industry - and you can bet your bottom dollar they come back on their catalog with a significantly higher price. Anything US sourced (not just strings) will inevitably be in-line for stonking price rises to us Brits as the dollar has moved from 1.60-1.65 to 1.50 in the past two months
20.
Can someone please contact Wayne again for me. I've sent item back but he's not replied to my pms .. bit frustrating. cheers Si
will do I know he's wrapped up in wedding preparations right now
21. I had an Eko B4 fretless acoustic bass some time ago and installed one of these - the K&K floating bridge pickup, which just slots under the bridge (loosen strings and bridge, slide underneath, super simple). Sounded very good at low volumes but the bass itself was very feedback-prone at higher volumes (a common problem with acoustic basses) http://www.jp-guitars.co.uk/sales/pickups_and_amplification/kandk_acoustic_guitar_pickups_archtop.htm
22. I will join you ... If it actually goes ahead!
23. Me again, this time a trade of two nice cabs. All good, yet again
