  1. It's pretty much as much proof as you need that watts don't = volume. Those saying "I need a 500 watt amp" are fooling themselves.
  2. I was never a fan of gold hardware, but on the right bass it can make it.

    best value DAW

Reaper is good. Can be a bit of a pain to set up to start with, but once you get your head round it, it's just like any other DAW. If you've got a Mac, get Garageband. It's the free version of Logic. You can then upgrade it to Logic if you find yourself using it & want the extra features.
  4. I'm gonna put my cap on & hopefully this month I'll be the champignon.

    best value DAW

Depending on what you're using it for, I'm not sure that Reaper is better value than Reason. The DAW itself is just $60, but Reason does come with a load of instruments & effects, Reaper doesn't. I think it comes with 2 instruments.

    best value DAW

I used to have Reason up until 2.5. Found it a very easy DAW to use & like Skol303, I loved that you can flip it round & route cables. I've had several DAWs since then & if you have a Mac, then the best VFM DAW is Logic. You get a bunch of brilliant synths, drum machines & effects as well as a shed load of loops & samples. All for £150! I'm not saying it's the best DAW (though it is my fave), the best is the one that works for You.

    Small monitors

That's actually not a bad idea. I'll discuss that with the Mrs. I've already got a good set of headphones. I want a 1/2 decent set of monitors.

    Small monitors

So do I, but for me to have a home "studio" there has to be a compromise. Though I don't understand why there's not much of a selection. Why do so many manufacturers forget about looks? I mean, those Genelec 8010As have a great bit of design in the base, but the rest is modelled on a milk carton. The KRK Rokit series sound great, but again, it looks like the looks department has been given to Justin Bebier. The majority though just look like black boxes. Why?

    Small monitors

I'd like a pair of Genelec, but I don't think the Mrs would be happy with them - even in white. I like the JBL LSR 305s, but they got a No!
  10. There’s also the Markbass Traveller series cabs too (something in the name).
  11. I might have to do mine solely on the MacBook. Im redecorating the house & there’s not mush room to get my keys & instruments set up.

    Small monitors

Back in the 80s, I always wanted a pair of NS-10s. So I’m almost getting my wish.

    That's good news.

Those soundskins might get too much moggie attention. I've got a nice big shed that already has lekky which could be turned in to a studio, but it would need a good clear out, insulated, internal walls, flooring, a ceiling & heating. AKA not going to happen, as I'm selling the place this coming year. However... After talking with the Mrs & telling her that £200 odd on small PC speakers would be a waste of money, she'd be happy with me getting these... Yamaha HS5. I showed her the KRK Rokit5s, & they're a no.

    Small monitors

I'm in the market for a small set of monitors, that's easy enough, there's plenty of great options out there... Here's the hard part - They need to get past the Mrs! So... I was gonna opt for a pair of Presonus Eris e5s, but the Mrs saw a pic & said that they wouldn't be going in the spare room. She doesn't want some "hideous big black speakers" in the house. I looked at several monitors & showed her a pair of Audioengine A2+ in white (& red). She said the white ones would be fine. However, for the price of them, I could spend a touch extra & get a pair of KRK Roket5 G3 White Noise. Basically the same as the usual Rokit 5 but in white with a white cone. Downside is, they're 11" high compared to the A2+ being 6" high. Any suggestions for a good small monitor that isn't much more than £250 a pair (preferrably less)? Would the A2+ be a good monitor for mixing on, or should I take a bit of grief & go for the KRKs?
  16. Here's mine. I loved this song when I was a kid. I think I've substantially killed it.
  17. I was expecting at the very least, a Greggs pasty.
  18. I think my fave album of the year has been Resurgen by Fink. Fantastic album. Automaton by Jamiroquai is a great album too. For this month though, The Peace Project by Hillsong is very fitting.
  19. I've got a great instrumental that I play on piano. It's originally an electronica piece. But, I doubt I'll be able to get the keys out until very close to Xmas, but more likely to be after Xmas. I'm redecorating the house.
  20. I've got mine started. I've got the basics of the song & the vocals laid down. Iit really shows my ability to kill a song, I should stick with instrumentals. I still might do an instrumental instead.
  21. Does your doc know much about bass cabs?
  22. It makes sense to take anybody's pronouncements on anything scientific/technical with caution regardless of their beliefs.
  23. What's that meant to mean?
  24. Do whales have tight ring pieces?
  25. To me, one of the most important parts of buying a bass is that it is comfortable to play. I've played many basses, but my Ibby with the flat wound strings on it is by far the bass that fits me best. And, it sounds decent too. A fellow bassist has a very nice Sandberg Jazz. Sounds lovely & is nice to play. He had a go on my bass & his first words were "Wow, this is just so comfortable". I've had a few different rigs over the years & yes, there's a difference there too, but regardless of whether I'm playing through the PA, the Markbass rig I used to have, the valve rig I have now or through whatever battered thing they have at a rehearsal room, the core bass sound is still there. It sounds good regardless. The best thing... Ibby SR basses aren't out of most people's reach. But then if you're used to a wider neck, then you might find the Ibby uncomfortable.
