Why didn't I think of this earlier? Here you are: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry776600
Courier collection no problemo!
Funny thing, I was gonna suggest Ashdown as their Mag stuff falls into a similar price range as the Marshall crap & is probably about 1/2 the weight & twice as good sounding.
That looks like a good wee rig you're selling there. 2x10 is the way I went & stand it vertically!
Welcome to the groovy side.
Learning blues is a good starting point as it teaches scales & progressions with ease & can be as simple or complex as you like. Go & have a listen to Doug Johns on YouTube.
Ibanez are excellent basses for the money. Mine was £700 when I bought it 20 years ago & it has served me well. I'm now after a fretless 5string as soon as funds allow.
There's plenty of oldies on here, a nice balance of different ages.

I'd agree if you was to choose one then a limiter is more likely to suit.
I don't use either & have (with mucho practice) learned to control how hard I slap as I play some songs that switch techniques.
I was gonna offer you a nice Vox standard bass that's in purple.
I bought it in 1983 & it started life as a black bass. I stripped it & resprayed it metallic purple about 20 years ago.
It needs new electrics, pick ups, bridge, strings, machine heads & cleaned up. Then laquered & put back together.
Oh, & a refret wouldn't go amiss.
Could be tempted to let it go for £300, but I see you got a nice Jazz.
I know rock can be hard to play, but what I actually meant was it's easy for a bunch of average (as a whole) musicians to play good sounding rock or punk music.
I think funk & jazz take a lot more disciplin for a band to sound good.
+1 on the 6-7 members issue too.
I think it's probably a lot easier for bands to play good rock music than it is to play funk or jazz well as a band.
That's not a bad thing, just getting a good funk or jazz sound is a difficult thing to do in a pub.
My band, BigRoom, are playing at the Victoria Hall, Station Road in Dunblane for the Holmehill community on Saturday 20th March.
Also on with us are Dealer, a cracking blues band & jazz saxoponist Mikhail Rojkov.
Doors open at 7:30pm & it's £8 for entry.
I recently saw a pair of Peavey Hysis II & a 1k power amp for sale in crack convertors for £400. Was a little tatty looking but would clean up ok. Add a mixer for @ £200 & you have an ample pa on a budget.
My band use a 1k pa that the singer picked up from gear4music for @ £750. has rebranded carlsberg speakers (soundpro or summit), but it does the job for vocals, drums, guitar, mandolin & violin but I wouldn't put my bass thru it & tend to just turn my combo to suit.
I find when I slap on the TIs they lose a slight ammount of bottom compared to rounds but nothing drastic.
They sound brilliant if slapping with a filter on. Especially if you do short slides on some notes.
Over the past 20 odd years of playing bass I've had many spells of leaving the bass alone & playing guitar, keys or whatever but always found after a few months, I'd go back to it (sometimes it was 6 month spells).
From about 2003 to 2006 I hardly touched my bass (I didn't even have a decent amp to play through) & spent most of my music time sitting in front of a computer with Reason on it.
Then a chap at work said "you play bass don't you Graeme, fancy having a jam?", the rest is history. Now I love playing bass more than ever & can't see me putting it down ever again.
I do play acoustic guitar in another band, but I'm trying to get someone to replace me so I can play bass.
I just like the fact that it's a humble instrument. No one acknowledges you're playing but they do when you don't.
My other 1/2 is always on YouTube & I've made a few vids with iMovie without my iMac (2.8 intel) even fluttering.
I'd check your Internet connection if you have trouble. Virgin used to give me 25k on their "upto" 8 meg line, so I switched to their data streaming line (which is now a steady 10 meg).
Can you adjust the resonance on the Q tron? I was considering one but every demo of one I heard it sounded like the res was too high & just sounded like a whoop whoosh (if you know what I mean).
I've used distortion (and an envelope filter) on a ballad. It can be done if you write the song.
Funny enough, this is pretty much what I use in my acoustic band (Me & a Guitar/banjo/vocalist & a Mandolin/whistle/spoonist! & sometimes a drummer/percussionist).
Adding a little OD when someone is soloing or using the filter to keep the top & mid off the bass & using the pedal to open the filter to build dynamics into the song.
You can get a nice dirty blues sound using the filter with some OD.
We have a few songs that we drop to D for.
I hit the open D & me & the guitar drops to it in unison. No tuner needed.
We just use 5 & 7 fret harmonics to tune back up. No mess.
Every month or two I get an email from Luthmann Basses showing some very tasty (IMO) looking basses.
The new Roots basses are a verry nice too.
Has anyone tried any of this chaps basses?
My hometown. Moved up here a couple of years ago.
I'm playing a gig in Dunblane on the 20th march if you're interested. I'll pop details in the gigs forum when I get all the info.
Hey Wayne, I did a quick edit of your pic on my phone to give you an idea of how you can mass with photos until you get something you're happy with.

Listen to Ped. Get a DSLR. You can get good s/h or new entry level ones well within a few hundred quids.
If I was earning a decent income just from bass playing then I'd have no problem spending £10k on a bass (one Ritter Royal comes to mind) as it's gonna earn it's money back & can be put thru as expenses for tax.
As for value-cost. If you buy a new corsa for @ £10k you'll be able to get to 100mph. To do 200mph is gonna cost more than double this, at least 10x this in reality & if it's something you really want & have the funds, then why not?
If you google KVR Audio, you'll get their site & it has tons of vsts & aus etc as well as other audio stuff.
I'll get the link later as I haven't got the facilities to get it just now.
I can only suggest an Ibanez SR (probably being the prestige unless you go s/h).
Looks pop rock, weighs very little & has a huge pallet of sounds.
But this being one of the few basses I've owned restricts me to recommending anything else (I wouldn't suggest Vox, weighs more than my house).
