1.
Any single mic (or stereo pair) can be used to record a band. The trick is all in the positioning and relative instrument volumes. All my early recordings - many of which are now available as a properly released CD - were done this way. You just need to take some time and experiment to find the best position for the mic(s) and the instruments/amps to get the best results.
+1 Mic into used recordable mix desk, as prevously said any mic will give you okish sound, all about the positioning of equipment.
2. +1 on what Ghost_Bass said. I personally connect each cab to their own amp ouput. 2 outputs! might as well use them!
3. I'm thinking the same as BottomE. err! doesn't everyone tune before playing their first song???
4. Only been playing a year, so a bad one! Play metal with a pick. Trying to learn some slap. But all in all I bloody love it!

7. I hope someone can help I have an GK 1001rb amp, the last few weeks at practice the amp runs fine for the first 45 mins or so then annoyingly it starts to cut in and out every 3 seconds, yep its almost that predictable? Sound for 3 seconds then a pop and no sound for 3 seconds another pop and the process repeats. I have check the leads and bass on my practice combo and have no problems there, so that leave's my amp and cab. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem before or have any ideas what it could be? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

12. Ok, here’s the situation. I was asked to play bass in a heavy metal band a few months ago by a friend who knew I had started learning guitar and knew I loved the music, I went along to practice, brought a bass guitar, signed up to bass chat and practice when I can and I love it. We have been doing some covers but the other guys are more experienced than me and want to do our own stuff, they have the guitar parts down and want me to add bass to it, as you can imagine it seems a very daunting thing for me to do as I’m extremely new to this but up for the challenge. Now you know the background is there any place to start, tips, books or just any advice would be hugely grateful.
