The only opens I tend to play is E & A but will always try & play the A fretted as I prefer the sound of a fretted note as opposed to the flabby twang of an open string. I dare say if I used more of open strings then my technique would be better.

Ritter Roya's tick the "make me drool" boxes for me, especially if they're made of wood that looks like it would give you splinters.

I too have the 2x10 combo & love it for the amount of sound & portability it provides. I've never had the chance to turn it up as far as 1/2 way. 10 o'clock on gain & vol is usually the max I get to! Would like a 1x15 or a 4x10 mb to pop under it tho.

I can't sing either. which can come in handy if you wanna empty a venue!

I'm with Direct line for my home insurance & it will cover my gear upto whatever I specify I need & have double checked & is covered worldwide for semi pro use (I should be so lucky!).

Just thought of another one that has the 4/4 - 3/4 thing, Heart of Glass - Blondie.

I've been trying to get a similar type sound, like a sine with a small amount of square added. I've been going down the Moog route & the MF101 does help with the sine like sound & I think the Freqbox might give me the finishing that it needs (along with using flatwound strings). The Bass Murf gets used like an eq & I sometimes use it for overdrive. I hardly use the arpeggiator on the filters but sometimes I'll use it slowly blending for textures.

If you have personal belongings cover on your home insurance, it will cover your gear as long as it isn't for professional use. Some insurance companies let you specify dearer items or increase how much cover you need & is often worldwide cover against theft, damage & loss. Downside is that if you have to claim, it will affect your home insurance & make it dearer the following year. My gear is all covered under my home insurance.

I remember when I was a kid, before we had this tinterweb stuff, I'd go down to the local music shoppe and buy (that's paying money for goods) sheet music & books so I could learn a song if I couldn't pick the full bassline up by ear. Try chordie.com for the chords to a song if you can't pick it out by ear.

Played a 50th birthday party last night & It was really good. In a farm steading in the middle of nowhere (Fife). We play all originals & the birthday boy had been to one of our gigs & liked what we did so his wife booked us.

I'm new to Perth & haven't been to the Stagger Inn, I've driven past it, but can't even remember where it is. Only gigs I've done in Perth are a wee acoustic set in Brennans Bar before Christmas last year (& they've no heating) and a few months ago we played in Mucky Mulligans, the live room so a wee room right at the back & 1/2 it is taken up by the stage! Was not a good venue. If you haven't played the Stagger Inn already then I'll ask at work today & post back here. I hardly look at the Gigs section, hence my late response.

I'm in two originals bands that are completely different from one another & love both of them. One is a rock band with a forgetful guitarist who can never remember what he played last week, but he always replaces it with something equally as good. The other is an electro-acoustic dot alt folk country band that plays jazz & blues & bluegrass (and some viper music too). We're planning on merging the two bands to one & trying to develop what songs we can use from each. But yes, I love playing bass in the bands that I am in & being part of the writing team means I'm gonna like it.

The majority of songs we play are originals. These form in several ways, they are... The Singer (guitarist/banjo whacker) says "I've come up with a song", He has lyrics & a chord arrangement. We all write our own parts around what he comes with, sometimes adapting what he has done to suit what we want. I come in with a bassline/ chord arrangement/ series of riffs/ melody and we work on it from there. We always let the singer write the lyrics. We jam & something evolves from something one of us are doing, quite often something turning out to be sheer genius. Problem I have is the lead guitarist can't remember sh!t & it can be quite anoying. especially if he's come up with a good hookline for in a song & then a month down the line he never plays it again! Other problem is constant noodling! Especially when there's singing going on. Whenever we cover something else, we do our version of it. As if someone said "there's some lyrics & a chord arrangement, have fun".

I always thought it was a Bash, hence Bass Bash.

I stand corrected, it is D. I have a song I play with a run from G in the scale of D & was thinking of this scale starting on G (my song is in D too).

I'd need to run thru the scale on an instrument, but from listening to it, it actually sounds like the key is a G major. Although the first 2 bass chords (that's if you played the 2 notes as a chord) could be F#5 & E5 they do fall in that scale. Could be wrong tho! Sorry, Edited to change my mind to G major instead of B.
