Weird & wonderful? A Bass Murf would fall into that category. Whether you'd use it or not is another question as the drummer would have to keep time with it (some find that tricky), but it is a weird & wonderful pedal that can make some superb rhythms & textures or just be used as a resonant EQ, overdrive or flanger. Sorry if it seems like I'm only recommending Moog things but I can't suggest things I haven't tried or used. Edited to add, there's also a Midi Murf.

I agree with the rest on here, tell your friend it's not a P or a J bass. It is a Yamaha RBX with a double humbucker ($$) configuration. There's more to bass life than Fender E.g. My Ibanez has a J/P configuration but that doesn't put it in the J or the P bass camp, it's in the Ibby Soundgear camp

Envelope filter pedal maybe? Moog make some good pedals.

Three. Been a lot of changes happening the past 14 months & still not sure what we are doing.

I've got a Vox Standard in bits. Needs some TLC, eg:pick ups, electronics, strings, nut, bridge, complete refinish to body & neck, etc, etc. I could let you have that for £1000, leaving you £200 to get all the parts needed.

Depends on what you want to spend. Ashdown MAG are good value but try before you buy.

Get a 2nd hand Zoom multi fx pedal for about £20-£30 & then you'll know what you want later after you get a better amp. I had a zoom 708 & it was the best £26 I've spent. Does a decent amount of different distortions & overdrives etc & has a reasonable wah as well as several other good useable fx such as delay, chorus, synth & compressor. I agree with Max as it's pointless spending more until you have a decent rig & you'll be surprised & impressed with a cheap multi fx pedal.

Talk him into taking up a different instrument. Preferably one he can't play whilst singing.

I use a Moog MF-101 with an expression pedal in one of the CV gates & a TRS cable from the env out back into one of the other CV gates, just now it's in the cut off, but sometimes I put it in the Resonance or amount, depending on the song (or sometimes it sends to the MF-105b & into either the LFO/Sweep or the envelope amount). I love the fact that if you keep the resonance to near minimal & the cut off at @ 9-10 o'clock you get an amazing amount of subby bass. Apparently it sucks tone in bypass, but this I haven't noticed. Might mess about with that now & see if I can tell the difference.

I always thought if there was a volume pedal for the guitarist that one of the other band has control over would be a great idea, especially when they want to noodle at full whack during the vocal parts. Best thing to do is sack em & not replace em. Be a three piece! I cope well at low & high volume now & we have a wonderful sound with bass, mandolin & banjo. We play death metal :brow:

I put the question forwards a few months back about cab ohmage & it makes more sense in the long run to go for 8 ohm cabs rather than 4 ohm ones (depending on what you're planning). If you want just one cab and don't want to expand on it or are running an amp that will handle a 2 ohm load, then 4 ohm cabs will get all the power from your amp. If you want to have the choice of 1 or 2 cabs with your amp (or 4 if you can run to 2 ohms) then 8 ohm cabs make sense there. The difference in a 4 ohm & an 8 ohm cab of the same model (db wise) apparently is not that much but running two 8 ohm versions is louder & clearer than the one 4 ohm version.

I'd either buy your other 1/2 something nice for Christmas or if you don't have an other 1/2, then use it down the docks. Get the amp.

My first rig was a Carlsberg Cobra 90 bass head going into a Peavey PA cab loaded with an Eminence 15" & a horn. The amp was crap but the cab took anything I could throw at it. Currently planning on adding a PA sub to my combo (I like a very bassy sound).

I thought it was a great clip although I wouldn't listen to it as a piece of music on my ipod, it's the sort of thing that should only be done live. He isn't in tune at the end (nearly is) but if I could play as good as he does then I'd be a happy chappy.

I've seen a couple for just over £300 since the LMIII came out. There's a mini cmd 121 for sale on here for £550, that's not much different to what you'd pay for a superfly & a 12" cab, is it?

I tried a superfly about 2 years ago & wasn't impressed.

Good selection of songs there to choose from. What I would do is have a chat with the band armed with these songs, choose what you want & then stick them on your ipod & listen to them until you know them inside out (most guitarists do not do this & prefer to wing it). This is what I do if we write a new song & I get it recorded on some device, that way I can analyse & work out what to do. Another easy song would be With or without you by U2 (infact almost any of their songs can be learned in one run).

I have the combo version of what you're thinking of getting & it weighs 20kg & can be carried with one hand. If you need a clean sound, keep the input level on the head down & increase the output level. If you need a dirtier sound, increase the input level & keep the output level down. I tend to keep the input so the clip light hardly ever comes on & use my murf to get some analogue overdrive. I can't see why the sansamp wouldn't do the job.
