1. Nope, I like Stevie Wonder. The bassline itself is ok (just), but the song is lame. Very lame. Having another listen (again), they'd be better covering the theme tune for Smokey & the Bandit!
2.
Have you had a shot of a Shuker yet? If not, then do so before buying. It might be what your looking for or it might be a pain in the butt to play. I'd go for a Fender. See what I did there? Try everything before you buy in this price region IMO.
Yup, I couldn't agree more. I just didn't get time to finish my post as I'm at work. I'd still get down to a shop & play loads. 20 years ago I went to Sound Control in Glasgow with plans to get a Status Bass, ended up trying a few others & came out with my Ibanez. Ok, a Fender would probably have held it's value better than my Ibby, but I've had the bass for 20 years & not needed to change it or wanted anything else & I preferred the playablilty & sound of the Ibby over the Fenders (altough I do now want a fretless 5 string & the Ritters are tempting me!).

4. just got around to reading this thread. I'd been wondering myself where a few of the ladies was. Good to see you alive & well.
5. Sorry, but I think it sounds like 70s cheese. The bass sound is ok, but the song using that sound is pants.
6. I had a pair of those in the 80s. Stood about 4 1/2 foot tall with 4 10" drivers in em. Cost about £70 s/h the pair I think.
7.
Good point!
Haha, takes me that ling to type a post at work between doing things that there's been multiple responses before I finish!
8. If you're planning on replacing the speaker then I'd still put an 8 ohm one in, just get a higher sensitivity driver & it will still leave you the opton of adding an ext cab in the future if needed. The extra watts put to one 4 ohm driver will be barely noticable.
9. Welcome to Basschat from a fellow Perthshire bassist. I think a lot of us elders (I'm 40 just after Xmas!) have gone thru a point in our life where we've stopped playing for a while & nearly sold our gear. I did back in the mid-late 90's. Glad to hear you beat the bass depression & getting back into things. Go & have a word with Tes in Bandwagon, Perth. When I first moved here, he said there's a serious shortage of bassists & was offered a slot in a 70's rock band. Had I not already got 2 on the go then I would have taken the offer up.
10. Is Colchester outwith the UK?
11. I'd get yourself to a good bass shop & try out many different basses. Ibanez & Fender are like chalk & cheese. Not just in sound, but weight, neck profile, ergonomics & countless other things. Ones not better than the other but different. & then there's all those other makes to try too, again all different. Oh, how about a Luthmann? Be the 1st known on here to have one. Depends on the euro rate if it'll come in budget tho. Have fun!
12. I'm wondering if it's more to do with the actual bass in relation to this "muddy" or "wooly" sound as opposed to just the MB cabs?
13. Welcome to Basschat, your current GAS situation should soon change. You'll want even more!!!
14. I'd never have thought I'd hear an MB combo being described as wooly! What do you class the Ashdown sound as, padded cell? When I first got my combo I thought the top end was a little over zingy, but turning the treble down a tad & making use of the amp's filters & the tone controls on my bass worked fine for me. I'd check the VLE isn't fully on if you try another anytime.
15. Bring back !
16.
Well it's decided one thing. The next one of us who starts up a band has got to call it The Tims.
I wouldn't like to be in that band if they're playing around Glasgow or west central Scotland.
17.
Where is Geoffrey? He spouted a little vitriol my way and then disappeared. The Schecter remains unsold!!! Great rhetoric all round guys
It's a Schecter copy! A real Schecter is worth a good 200 odd quid where as an inferior copy such as "shecter" are not really worth much at all
18. I got mine from roqsolid AKA http://www.amplifiercoversonline.com/zenca...;products_id=16 They give an exceptional customer service & called me to go over details such as "what colour of piping I would like" & with progress updates. Good solid cover too. Well recommended.
19. I got a couple of sets the Peacock Blue DR Strings a few years ago & whilst they looked great to start with, soon turned tatty looking. They was a bit too bright & zingy for my liking & the G string wasn't up for much slap & snapped in no time (I'm glad I only paid about £25 for the 2 sets as they're extortionate over here).
20. I've got to agree with GEOFIO, I've been on here for a few years and never bought or sold anything on here! Saying that, I've not had anything to sell & the only things that I have bought have been a new combo from the Bass Merchant, an mf-101 from Kenny's Music (because it was only £149!), some accessories from a couple of other stores & a set of flats from stringbusters. If I had some money to spend, there's plenty of things on here that I'd love to buy, but I'm skintos! Anyone wanna buy a house in Perth?
21. Why would you need an 8x10 tho?
22. And me! No octaver at all. I want!!!!!
23. Learning your scales is a good thing. Boring as hell, but worth it to be able to step into an originals band & play bass like you spent ages writing the line. Having another musician to learn with is a help too. My best friend plays guitar & we taught each other as kids anything we learned about theory & practised together regularly. Ironically, we've never played in the same band! Simple rock basslines are good to get your right wrist loosened. I found playing along with The Cult & Van Halen to be most enjoyable & very easy to play. Oh, & learn your blues scales & simple blues patterns, they'll come in handy later.
24. It could be used to wedge a cab back as a monitor.

I've got one. Had it since 1990 & never owned any other basses since buying it. It has a huge range of tones from top clanky sounds to dubby bass & just about everything inbetween. Pretty light with a very thin neck (good if you play fast). I put TI flatwounds on mine & the only downside for me is that it hasn't got 5 strings Sounds like a fair price to pay for one (they was £700 new in '90).
