1. There was a Roya & a Jupiter for sale on here last week.
2. Doesn't the Greatful Dead's bassist play a Jupiter?
3. I'm on their website just about every week having a drool The Roya with the 9500year old Bog Oak body has been there for a few months. It has my name on it & I'm trying to save up for it but so far I only have 34p. I've been considering stripping the chipped to bits body of my ibby & laquering it (been contemplating this for a couple of years & used to be a signwriter by trade) & after seeing the Grainflake finish have been tempted to do something similar.
4. £101.74 is a much cheaper price than I was expecting (though I suppose an ABS box is cheaper to manufacture than metal) & I'd be interested if I never had the Moog. The Motion Sensor looks like a cool idea, can you use an expression pedal with the unit?
5.
Heh, maybe!?! I think i've just fallen into the classic trap of recommending one's own set-up without considering the reasoning behind it. Sorry OP!!
But if you have that gear to hand (Bass gear & guitar gear), then why not put it to good use My opinion was only if you don't have the gear to hand & are buying.
6. Good point, but unless you was borrowing the guitar combo, would the cost of 2 cheaper combos not be far away from 1 decent bass combo?
7.
I think if you have a lot of high mids and top end in your sound, then amps are going to sound fairly different. Have you thought about buying a guitar amp to run your effects through? It's a bitch to carry extra stuff, but if you have a 1 x 15" bass combo (or similar) and a 1 or 2 x 12" guitar combo, your effects will sound great!
Doesn't most modern SS amps have all the top end clarity you'd get from a guitar amp? I don't see the point in carrying 2 separate rigs when 1 will do it better. I put my semi acoustic through my MB combo all the time & sounds more faithful than putting it through any of the guitarists rigs (to me, bass gear is more similar to decent PA).
8. I was a combophobic until I got one!
9. He's good at that!
10. Some tasty & unusual basses in here. Here's my Ibanez SR-1000 complete with Black Cat attachment...
11. Fuel prices and VAT going up have affected transporting goods, thus putting the prices of most goods up by considerably more than 2.5%. Greed is the other major factor that I can think of.
12. Just like ~tl says, make sure your ohms aren't mixed up or exceeded & use your ears.
13. I would agree on getting a 2nd mb 115 or changing to 2 2x10s or whatever suits you & then upgrading to a higher powered head to be the logical option. What about getting one of the MB combos & adding an ext cab if needed? You could sell your LM250 & get a CMD 151 to add to your existing cab. Thus giving easy set ups.
14. My band BigRoom are a mix of Americana, Country, Folk, Blues, Jazz & anything else old school & I find myself using the 2 Moog pedals & the chorus a lot (depending on the song for the way I use the Murf or bypass it). My suggestion for a pedal would be a Low Pass Filter with a pedal. It's good having control over how much top end is coming out. You can have a very muffled sound during quieter sections & open it up to fetch out a fuller sound for choruses or buildups in bridges. Try one first, see if it's what you're looking for.
15. Nice to have you along, enjoy.
16. Welcome to Basschat & constant GAS You should be able to find everything you want to know about basses here and all you need about amps, cabs & combos here. I'd do plenty of reading & asking questions (that's what we're here for) & use the search within topics to see if there's been anything similar to what you want to know. Have fun.
17.
It seems to me that this is meaningless. In order to know the volume of air that a driver moves, you also need to know how far the cones move, which is going to be specific to individual drivers.
This was my thoughts as well when reading this as I know the B&C drivers in Markbass cabs have 21mm of travel instead of the usual 18mm. Not sure how much difference this makes, but it surely makes some as would the size of the cab.
18. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, there's a few good metronome apps available for free or small costs. Like said above, loops or programming a drum pattern to play to are good options.
19. Having different sized drivers means that they move the air differently from one another. This can cause certain frequencies to be affected as soundwaves hit one another, it can have both positive & negative effects on the sound. Having all equal drivers in a vertical array moves the air more evenly & has a good horizontal spread. There's plenty of info within this forum section & BFM, Alex Claber, etc would give a better insight into this.
20. My choice would be 2 2x10s stacked vertically on their ends. It would get the most from what you have, be easier for you to hear what you're playing & give an even dispertion to the audience. However, I would explore how the other options sound first.
21. @ Delberthot: I'll give you a clue, it wasn't Revolution. @ Wombatboter: I agree it may not be suitable for depping in cover bands for all songs, but if you play in an originals band & write all the basslines (as is my position) then there's no rules. @ StingrayPete1977: I play with my Freshman Semi very regularly & the mrs usually watches & sings!
22. have a quick search in the For Sale section. I found 2, one at £650 & one at £250, it depends on which model you have.

Welcome to BC. Before you know it you'll be asking what's the best strings for the new bass you've just bought!
24. You'll find just about all you need to know about combos & amp/cab configs you need in the Amps & Cabs section. Welcome back to bass.
25. There's also a Basschat Flickr ID sharing page somewhere in the "Off Topic" section. We've been having a monthly photo comp for fun & the next should be here in early January. You'll soon be wanting to know more about bass after spending a couple of months with these guys. I popped on to ask a question almost 3 years ago & haven't been able to leave! Welcome to BC.
