Hope you enjoy the gig. I'm another who saw them at Donnington back in 1992, that was a good festival.

I've often found that songs that sound comlex are fairly easy & songs that sound easy are often more difficult. Wow, I started typing this over an hour ago! Anyway, have fun transcribing.

Another good looking cheap bass - new "Sue Ryder"???
xgsjx replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
I think they just pulled random figures out of the air for that site's RRPs & "Old price" & how much you "save"! Someone with spare cash buy something & let us know if it makes good firewood or if it's actually a giggable plank. I would but just now I can't even afford the things I want let alone the things I don't want. -
Played many instruments before deciding I'd try bass at the old age of 13 (well almost 14). Past 26+ years I haven't looked back!
What 'con trick' is that then?
I think he means the way that many manufacturers lead you to believe that you need a 15" for bass & 2x10/4x10 for mid & top. With the correct cabs you can get the same frequencies covered from either a 10", 12" or 15" cone (& Alex is working on showing that it can be done from an 8").

Not sure what your budget is, but I use a moog Bass Murf for overdriven sounds. At £2-300 it's not cheap & I'm not sure if it defo IS the sound you're after, but you can use it for all sorts of things. Mine gets used for OD, phaser, EQ & sometimes I use it for what it was originally created for, rhythmic sequences. Here's a wee sample from my review... Bass MuRF Fuzz & here's the review I did if you're interested... 2x10 vertical FTW. I'd also try another 2x10 with it if you can get a loan of one & see if you prefer it to your mixed setup. It should produce just as much bass as your 15 & 2x10 but with more consistent results.

Sounds like a really good power amp for someone. I'm sure you'll find something equally as good that'll suit you.

HELP! I've just received a £1,200 bonus from work.
xgsjx replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
I suppose you could get a 2nd hand Skoda for @ £1200? -
An amp that won't handle 4 ohm? That's a bit restrictive. Can you not return the amp or cab & get either an amp with 4 ohm min or an 8 ohm cab?

I'd go with your "Bitsa" plan, treat you & the Mrs to a weekend away & pop the rest in the bank (or buy some fx pedals). -
Congrats Dan Looking forward to hearing some of your Warwick through it. BTW, what's that square piece between the DI & the power switch? From the pic it looks like a flip out car ashtray.
Understandable... but I would think you could get a MB 102 combo for £550-600 on here.
You possibly could. They usually go @ £650 mark but there might be one or two in the for sales that would haggle.

What's your favourite live song/performance?
xgsjx replied to Ben Jamin's topic in General Discussion
Seeing Bjork in Vegas was one of the best gigs I've ever seen. Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense is my favourite recorded live performance. -
I've got a box of 10 of these 9 volt jobbies. £7.40 a box & they're the equivalent of a Duracell Ultra. (link nicked from the rechargable battery thread)

I think Long scale is what you would need for your Ibby. Is it a 34" scale?
-
It purely depends on what kind of sound you're after. If you want bright & zingy, then rounds are the way to go. After spending years of using rounds I took the plunge on a set of TI Jazz flatwounds & wish I would have done decades ago. My bass sounds more like I want it to & apparently flats last for years.
-
Hopefully a good move. I like GK gear & the RB700 combo was one of the main contenders on my list (as was it in seperates). Certainly a very light 2x10 combo. You'll need to report back in a month after it's had a bit of a run through.
World's leading caber tossers? A lot world class comedy in Scotland? And a couple of great saxophonists in Tommy Smith and Bobby Wellins. Great whisky distilliries?

The blokes get to wear Tartan skirts without being called a tranny, I think you are doing ok. Garry
A world class alcoholic tosser in a skirt who blows his own trumpet & takes the mick. That's a rather stereotypical view of a Scotsman to take, is it not?
There is no in-bred relationship between ones country of origin and ones ability to play in a certain way. What there is is an increased probability, a bigger pool to draw from. More people per capita play football in Brazil than in, say, Wales = more Brazillian footbaal players = higher probability that there are going to be more 'great' Brazillian football players. More West Indians play cricket = more West Indian cricketers = better standard of cricketer in the West Indies. More US jazz musicians = Americans are going to be better jazz musicians. More Indian sitar players = the best sitar players are likely to be Indian. Bigger samba scene in Brazil = best samba players are from there. Same with Cuban congueros, Indian tabla players, Aborinial didgeridoo players and Argentinain accordian players. There is a reason why there is always an overrepresemtation of medals from the US, Russia and China iin the Olympics. There are always more kids to choose from who play the Sports in question. Its why the best skiers tend to be from countries where it snows etc.
So where does that leave us Scots? Best shinty players? Good with things that involve rain?

If you're going 2nd hand, then there's a few Ibbys on the first for sale page on here. Both these are excellent value for money... SR-1206 SR-800 (a Japanese one!)

I think if it's refinished, it's no longer original (just like the stripped condition it's in) so therefore colour would have no effect on price. I'd go for a non Fender colour. Maybe British Racing Green with a Mustard pick guard?
-
It might go the opposite way around? Whereas Germany & Brazil have the best footballers, they might produce the fewest amount of great bassists, England being better, then Scotland better again & the most being from America & India (& other countries that aren't known for any good footballers). It makes sense to me. I'd rather play bass than kick a bag of wind around. Edited just to say, I bet America's got better footballers than Scotland? Moves Scotland up in the bass rankings!

I got my board from the Flightcase Warehouse. It's basically a decent flightcase with the shallow side to the bottom & a piece of ply painted black & some velcro supplied with it. I got some heavy duty velcro from hobbycraft, popped a couple of smallish feet on the top edge of the "board" so it leans & I can hide wires under it, then I got a couple of wooden kitchen door handles & put one either side of the board (they match the moog ends). As for pedals, do you know what fx do what? That's not meant to be a cheeky Q, just that if you don't then I would suggest getting a multi FX to play about with & see what fx you like, then you can decide if two distortions are needed & if you're gonna use a compressor. If you do know what fx do what, then the Ashdown Hyperdrive & the MXR Blowtorch are both worth a look as far as O\Ds go. Compressors, I used an EHX White Finger for a couple of tracks in the studio & thought it sounded decent enough but not something I would use live. Couldn't advise on a tuner, I use PolyTune on the iphone before a gig & any tune ups are done by ear.
