1. Hercules hangy grabby guitar stand needed. I've stripped my bass as it had more chips than McDs. Never stripped the headstock tho as it's got character.
2. Rehearsal room for the band is the best place to get everything set up for gigs.
3. I like the Markbass LMII but there's many good amps in your budget. The Orange is a popular wee amp also but from what I've heard, it only does one sound & that is overdriven (albeit very good at it). If I want OD, I add it via a pedal. Go to a shop & try, try, try!
4. Man, I wish it didn't take soooo long to get down (& cost so much) so I could be there! Have a good bash
5. Try rolling the Treble, Mid & Bass down on the head if you can't turn the volume down on your bass.
6. Here's where I got it from.
7. Life During Wartime is a fairly simple bassline. It's in A during the Verse & E during the Chorus. Most of the verse uses A A EGE & the run at the end is just D C B G. Chorus goes E (open string) BDE. Got this from listening to a clip on youtube as my mate has my Talking Heads songbook. Hope that helps.
8. I'd rather pop a black capo on than play all the wrong chords. With metal bands tho, it's usually power chords & riffs. Why would you need a capo to play E5, G5 & Bb5 (all my fave Nuclear Assault songs use those 3 chords). Anyhoo, I wasn't saying his guitarists should use capos. I was suggesting he try one as a visual aide if the song is transposed up a semi or 2. The bassist from Kings of Leon has used a capo live (ok, so they're pop rock). Why he did, I do not know. Maybe for the same reason?
9. Sorry Bode, being a bit of a guitarist I know that playing an A with the capo on the 2 (a G position) sounds different from playing an A in the normal non capo position. Same goes for many chords. Also there's many songs that sound completely different played both with and without a capo. RE: my other comment. I don't use a capo on my bass, but if someone is struggling to move everything up a fret or two, then it might be a good visual aide.
10. I pretty much agree with you there Doddy. The only times I've tuned to Eb Ab Db Gb has been when I was in a covers band & everyone else was (Never had a 5er).
11. We usually play a jammed version of one of our songs. Each of us has a little time & then a quick run together to make sure we're not muddy or messy & then we do a little impov. Actually, that sounds like my entire last gig!
12. Drop D is usually the only detune I use. I generally don't have a problem playing something that was in G but moved to A, but it's nice to have a little warning. Another thing that can help is popping a capo on the 1st or 2nd fret. I know, what's the point of a capo on a bass. It's a mental thing. Your eyes see the capo as the nut & everything moves from there (or is that just if you play guitar as well?).
13. If you're new to FX, then a multi fx unit is your best starting point so you can find out what fx does what & saves buying a couple of funky looking bricks. Once you know what's what then single pedals all the way (tho there's some very good multis that I'd have. Oh, it's big, it's heavy, it's wood.
14. Sounds like youband is too loud & your cabs are inefficient. Punk band = no comprimise with volume Flog your cabs & get more efficient ones (maybe a barefaced bigone). Sorry, it's taken me over an hour to type this post between calls!
15. Watts don't really come into the equasion as much as you're lead to believe. it's all about how efficient a cab is & how much air it can move. A 400 watt cab can be louder than a 1200w cab.
16. Does it have to be an Orange cab? I'd go & try a few cabs out & see what YOU like the sound of (and the weight of). My choice would be 2 2x10s or 2x12s as opposed to a 4x10.
17. My church has got the iMultimix 8 & it's a decent wee mixer. I use it at home from time to time for recording. My suggestion for getting your toes into recording would be a mac with Garageband. It's very easy to use & after a short time you'll find yourself getting Reaper (which is free & with the option to pay if you use it a lot). The good thing about a mac is that you get a nice software bundle to make music & videos very easily with, the down side is the price, but then the upside is that they hold their value & aren't at high risk from viruses.
18.
Knock down to $5k here: http://www.interstatemusic.com/webapp/wcs/...oduct_900442986 Bargain. Seriously though, if they've sold any, I'll be amazed.
Maybe that's the idea? Mr GV wants one unique to him but Ibanez have to offer them to the public, so to make it more likely to remain unique they come to an agreement to put a silly price tag on it. Talking about silly price tags, IF I had a spare £10k I would be looking at this...
19. I know the feeling. My funds make are somewhat missing too. If you've got a soldering iron, then a couple of 1/4 jacks & a bit of cable can be sourced for fairly little & behringer do a small line mixer for @£20-25 (I can't even afford the jacks just now).
20. Does your Sansamp not have an output & a parallel output also for running a dry signal? If so, there's your splitter. You'll need a mixer of some sort to merge them back together. Just now I'm using a Alesis 8 channel mixer sat on top of my amp to sum the channels back together, but I do plan on getting a dedicated pedal on my board (probably from SilentFly) tho it is some time away I'm using a Moog Bass Murf to split the channels & get some very interesting effects. I'll make a video one day soon on how I do it & post it.
21. I've never played a 6 stringer (other than guitars ), but if I was going for the best then a Ritter would be on my "to try" list.
22. I like that very last sound you make (the 2nd last note especially). Very PWM & with a bit more bass to it would sound tremendous! You could split your signal & put 1 side thru those 2 pedals & then pop the other side thru a little fuzz & then the Qtron with no wah effect to roll off all the top (use it kinda like an LPF, if that's possible) & then merge the signals again.
23.
Theres plenty of space left for an OC2... To be honest I wouldn't use it much with this project. It's soooooooo NOT Dubstep There's just room for one pedal no bigger than a Boss unit. Either an OC2 or an envelope filter. Or maybe I'll just leave it as is...
Envelope filter??? The Moog or the GR would be a verrry tight squeeze!
24. Silly Q, but aren't Ashdowns known for their "Woolyness"?
