It was only a suggestion
And a welcome one too. It's a good instrument, but I think I'd end up wanting a better fretless after a few years.
Well, i jumped a few lines whilst reading your topic and just read and a few posts downs i read So i remembered seeing a 5 string Precision for sale a while back, this one: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1576892 When i saw this add i noticed that it was a P but with jazz pickups, then i re-read your first post and read so i knew that this bass was not a valid sugestion and removed it. I'm obviously not a monday morning person...
Thank's for settling my curiosity That's a good budget bass. I'm looking for something that I most likely wont change. I've got my eye on a nice Ibby 4005 & a Super Jazz 5 at present, but none are fretless (which is what I would prefer). I'm not so keen on going for something like the GWB35 (nice as it is, I'd rather pay for a better 2nd hand bass). But I've got time to search.

Help with finding a hollow body/semi acoustic bass *Sorted*
Well Warwick are leading manufacturers of musical marmite.
Very true. I tried a Warwick $$ & really liked it. I dare say there's good Rockbass's out there too. -
Here ya go http://www.thomann.d...rd_fretless.htm
I was looking at these yesterday. They're Rockbass, that's why they're £350. I've only ever played 1 Rockbass & there was nothing "Rock" about it. The components was the nastiest things I've touched. But Thomann give a 30 day return period so if it's junk, then you aren't stuck with it. -
just re-read your first post, and deleted my sugestion.
You can't do that! Now we all want to know?

You need a longer wall so you can get the rest of the pattern up!
Last i heard he had left the country and changed his name to wainpunkdude to evade being tracked down
Are you sure it wasn't waynepikeydude?

I have a Markbass 2x10 combo. Very loud for a 2x10 & hasn't let me down since I got it 4 years ago. If it's a combo you're after, then I'd put it as one of your top contenders & you'll pick one up 2nd hand in your budget.

I think the GWB1005 is a bit out my price range by @ £3k. A couple of GWB35s went for @ £350 last year. Not totally sure its what I'm after as it only comes in black (minor selling point).
Cort Curbow 27 frets! No sh|t! and its cheap too with a Bartolini pickup an' all! http://www.thomann.d..._curbow4mic.htm
There's a fretless curbow 4 string in a local music shop & I've had a play on it, nice sound for the money. They don't do a fretless 5 (no idea why, they do a fretted 5). I want something I'm gonna be happy with for a long time (like being happy with the Ibby for the past 22 years). The Ibby GWB35 that Fender73 mentions is a contender.

Not having 24 frets isn't a biggie, but is there a fretless 5 string Fender P? & if there is, is it in my budget?
-
Well I've finally gotten the go ahead from the Mrs to get a new bass! I'm putting £100 in a bass fund for the next 5-6 months & not sure if I'll sell my Ibby or not to add to it (it depends what I need). So, what I'm looking for is a 5 stringer (or maybe a sixer) & I think I want to go fretless. I'm not after the Mwaaaahhh sound, I'll be putting it through my board & trying to make sub sounds out of it). What would you guys suggest I look at? If I don't sell my Ibby, it's @ £5-600. But if there's something that's worth selling it for, then I shall (I know I wont get a lot for it & don't want to sell it, but if needs must). Preferably 24 frets, but not a must have (can always do harmonics to get higher). So, ideas please?

For Jazz/Funk, I'd look at either an envelope pedal, chorus, octave or maybe even some dirt. I always say "if you're not sure, get a multi fx unit", but it's not for you.

I got a strip of Auralex Platfoam from Studiospares, chopped it in 1/2, stuck it to a bit of 3/4" ply & there you go. Grampa Pad. Just putting the foam under the cab makes a difference on wooden stages.

So you're saying he made a good thread & then bought a crap combo!
Ahem, what about the palace in Perth, "Skoon"? Hang on I'm getting déjà vu here.
Ahh, but Scone Palace isn't in Perth, it's in Scone (pronounced Skoon). To clear up your Bass dilemma, here's how it is said... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43YGbhwBHds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgUoLrS5tjc Happy now?

+1 on learning to read music. It's good to learn songs by ear & then check the bits you're not sure of against the written piece (online TABs that are accurate are a rarity) but getting the sheet music or the score for the album is a good thing. Listen to me saying this. The man who started off reading music from a young age & for the past 5 years has been using online tabs! Saying that, I only look up chords & make my own bassline from there as we don't do "tribute" covers, but rework a song if we decide to cover it or use the tab as a reference if there's something I can't hear, though I prefer using youtube for the more complex basslines (I got to learn Sir Duke from the choob). But yeah! Well done on attempting to learn by ear. It should be a musician's first port of call & is the most accurate way to learn a piece. A bit like singing really, if you get the words on line & don't listen to the words in the song, you could be singing anything. Like this guy does... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dptyqVjt1nc&feature=related

& the 4Ω cab would probably only put out 3 db more than the 8Ω equivalent.
Is this general advise or just for Kiwi?
It should work for anyone.
I tried that already but couldn't see myself in the shop windows properly.
But did it work???
Oh god, its been 2 hours already. Can anyone help me in my hour of need...?
I hope I'm not too late! What you need to do is stand up on a desk or table in public, pull the front of your T-shirt up over your head, put your elbows up & put your thumbs under your oxters & then ping your nipples whilst shouting "Bring the Milk". Good luck.

Nice. I really like Business Step. Do you put the bass through the Nord?

I've no idea. But I was wondering where you'd went to. Good to hear you're alive & well.

Get yourself a small mixer or cheap multi fx box, plug your bass into it & take the stereo outs into the HiFi & off you go.

I've tried using the effects loop on my amp a few times & there's no benefit unless I switch the jumper to have clean & effected blended (which I don't want) or have an extra wire running across the stage. I don't use a compressor. Tried a few, but might get another one sometime in the future.
